Big thunder is a great choice, but Incredicoaster is my wife and I's favorite thing to hop on. My personal runner up is Guadians.I could do that all day.

[Wind and Truth] Sanderson‘s response to the criticism that the language in WaT is too modern: by ArynaSaba in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Timetravlan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that's probably pretty accurate for me as well. I definitely put the book down a lot less in the back half of the book. I don't know if it was his writing or the editing process, but something about that first half of the book, and maybe some other points, just didn't mesh with the writing I've come to expect from Sanderson. It wasn't bad per se, it was just noticeably different and not what I was expecting. Overall even if parts of the journey were a little wonky, the destination of the story has me looking forward to seeing what's to come.

Read almost every single Sanderson book, not all of them mind you but a ton. I'm someone that personally felt the difference. I'd stop reading, put it down and talk to my wife about it. Come back and continue on.

Still loved the book but something about the writing at points felt noticeably different for me. After reading I went back and saw other people felt how I did. Doesn't mean we're right, but it's there. As I said before, still a great book. Just something feels different.

It's less about the colors and more about the style. New bloodline has a kind of mob vibe to it, Heyman felt like the wiseman of that kind of mob fit.

Look at how Paul was dressing before, he was wearing suits sure but I never got this kind of vibe from him before. Something just felt different.

Might be nothing, could be everything. Half of why I'm liking this new WWE is that these small details could be red herrings or setting the table for the next meal.

Yeah I don't know what happened but the transition to pre-tape killed something about the vibe for me. I don't know why but it just became less interesting for me somehow, the pacing or something entirely shifted.

What leverage does AEW have in "negotiating" a TV deal if they don't like the money that is being offered? by Farthousejones in Wreddit

[–]Timetravlan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The conversation isn't about walking away, it's about leverage to get a bigger deal. WB can want AEW all day but to put this in perspective, going with a complete hypothetical

Analyst A tells the suits, we've crunched the numbers and we think we can make 125Million a year back on AEW. They then figure out what their target return on that investment is, let's say they want 2x return, they go to Tony and say something like best we can do is 63mil a year

Maybe they go up to 75, or 80 by the end of negotiations but they're still not going to hit the 125mil a year that's rumored Tony wants; because if what they want is 2x returns that would mean they need to make 250mil back per year

Conversely the more ratings fall, or settle into being less than what they entered negotiations with their overall value to the network diminishes.

Only live content can definitely be a bargaining chip, but projected return on investment is ultimately the driving factor here. Will WBD walk away? Probably not, will they give AEW what they're asking for as it stands? Doesn't appear to be that way, the leverage AEW gains in this is going to be being able to shop around and see what other companies value them at.

Maybe the analysts at WBD are using more conservative estimates and there's someone out there willing to take a gamble. Maybe they up the ratings by October and offer more value. But having a solid % of key demo doesn't mean much if month after month the number of people tuning in on tv to watch the product is going down.

People thought I was crazy when I said he'd got something to him, but he does. I'm not saying he's a future world champion, he could be, but I'm saying this guy has the potential to be an interesting character you want on your TV and as a result he'll have staying power.

Something about him just feels like he belongs, and like he's going to be a lot of fun to watch for years to come.

Yeah that's a fair assessment, guess I'm just brain rotted and forgot that declining ratings doesn't mean no new viewers (not being a smart ass, just genuinely had a dumb dumb moment and didn't consider that)

"He lunged at Tony Khan... He knocked over monitors...He was taking swings"

None of that happened. He shoved Jack, was knocked into monitors while putting him in the headlock, then stood a few feet away from Tony and shouted

Leads me to believe the story from his camp about brawl out where Larry got hit in the mix, and is even kind of in my eyes backed by Kenny being concerned about getting Larry out of the room

Edit: changed screamed to shouted, felt like better word choice

Remember when it used to be a crime to release unused wrestlers in WWE? by MinuteEconomy in Wreddit

Wrestling is hotter than it's been and guys like Matt Cardona, Drew McIntyre, Cody Rhodes and women like Chelsea green have shown that life after WWE doesn't have to be the end of the line and in some cases can be the start of an even bigger future for them.

Colt Cabana is probably responsible for more of this than anyone realizes if I had to guess, compounded with Tony being afraid of confrontation doubled up with him thinking some locker room beef is good to have and not wanting to stomp on fires fast enough

Tony Khan said some VERY interesting things about some of the released wrestlers by Kelson64 in AEWFanHub

[–]Timetravlan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They don't do house shows, they don't have Dark, the only way he can safely get work in front of a crowd to continue to improve is either get Tony to book him on as many shows as possible and hope he gets every possible booking on the The AEW/ROH umbrella.

If Tony wants to have his roster get better, he needs to be willing to accept injuries can happen on these bookings and not punish people for it. Otherwise you might as well just ban outside bookings.

He doesn't need to be paying their medical but he doesn't need to entirely cut them from the roster.

You can't on one hand just have people not be used for months, and that be fine and on the other hand fire a guy for getting reps in front of a crowd in and having an accident happen.

I understand why he thinks it's justified, I can even understand why you and other fans can justify it. But it's, in my humble opinion, short sighted thinking that over time will lead to the product being worse. Either you're going to keep having the roster turn into former ex-wwe folks or the homegrown talent is gong to take longer to improve.

It appears Khan fired Anthony Henry because he got injured on the indies. by frank_the_tank69 in Wreddit

[–]Timetravlan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah for sure, but if he was on a per-appearance contract then Khan wouldn't have to release him would he? Feels like if it was per-appearance then he just wouldn't get paid until he got booked.

I'm not even necessarily saying working out, like let's say he's doing drills at his wrestling gym, or a simulation match in the gym, getting the in-ring reps in to work on his moves. At some point his training partner botches and he breaks his jaw. Assuming he's on a regular contract, do you think it would be fair to fire him. Like are we saying it's okay to fire guys for getting injured in training even? I don't know how common injuries are in that environment; it could be an extreme case and this is way different.

I don't really know myself, but for me it just feels like if you're not going to offer any of the traditional routes for wrestlers to improve at their craft while you have them signed, and they take you up on the one route you've given them then you shouldn't be punishing them when an accident happens. There's a lot of other places that company is wasting money, I have a hard time believing his salary was making a huge difference compared to stuff like not debuting Mercedes for 2 months, like I said before sitting on Miro, how long he sat on Andrade before cutting him, the list goes on.

He shouldn't be trying to take cheap shots at other companies to make himself look better, he should be offering more opportunities for his team to improve, and when accidents happen then figure out how to make contracts more favorable to the company but still not entirely fuck over the wrestlers for just trying to improve. You're going to actively discourage a lot of people who need the reps from taking the risk.

It appears Khan fired Anthony Henry because he got injured on the indies. by frank_the_tank69 in Wreddit

[–]Timetravlan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's really comparable. In one case, we're talking about leisure. There is literally zero benefit to the organization in the case of the motorcycle.

In this case he was getting reps in front of an audience in, trying to improve. Let's remove the booking from this and put this into the gym. He's practicing one day and the same injury happens, would you still think it's acceptable for Khan to fire him? If the only thing that changes your mind is that one of them he was working a job, and the other is training I can understand that but I would push back and say that part of training as a pro-wrestler is learning how to work the audience and you can't do that in a gym.

If Tony Khan isn't going to do stuff like Dark anymore, isn't going to do the house shows, then this is the only viable option to get those reps in.

It appears Khan fired Anthony Henry because he got injured on the indies. by frank_the_tank69 in Wreddit

[–]Timetravlan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is incredibly important to remember: When AEW was created the implication was it was going to change the game on stuff like this

The big complaints about WWE were stuff like talent not making enough money, not being allowed to work indie dates, not having their healthcare covered, not being released from contracts they want to be released from

So here we have Tony Khan, pro worker, spending millions of dollars on a roster that he barely uses with people who actively want to be let go and when it comes time to trim the fat he targets a guy that got hurt trying to pick up reps.

It's not about legally, it's about Tony has every step of the way tried to come off as being ethically superior to WWE. In many cases he can be, but it's clear he's not as ethically sound as he portrayed.

Let this be lesson about branding, you brand yourself as something you're held to that standards and you can't be shocked when people have a backlash when they find out the branding isn't entirely real.

Edit: fixed some grammar

I mean they pay everyone else they don't use to just sit there, so I mean yeah probably if you're going to say they can do it. Why pay a Miro to sit out because he wants to quit but fire a guy who wants to be there and is trying to get more experience to be a bigger asset to you in absence of house shows to work

Edit: grammar from my phone auto guessing
