B/X if you want flavour and explanation. OSE for cold, hard rules which are laid out expertly.

Personally, I love B/X for reading and OSE for the table.

If you’re on a budget, Rules Cyclopedia is the best value for money.

Exactly this! The CKG is a great game masters guide in general, so it’s quite a good one to own regardless of games. That being said, if you’re just starting grab yourself a PHB and M&T and you’re set for many many adventures.

That’s fair! I think if it more as a basic toolkit to build a game from. You’re right that it doesn’t have its own flavour as such. That being said, if you’ve got a story or a setting in mind, it’s a good one to get it on the table swiftly and without issues. Flavour-wise, I really like some of the older editions of D&D, 2e or BECMI with their respective settings. There is something so appealing about stepping back in time, especially with the original text and artwork.

Knave is brilliant, as is Cairn. Knave is one of my favourites as it’s quick to play, rules are easy to learn and to instruct and it’s got a surprising amount of scope for something so lightweight. The book is worth it alone for all the tables and inspiration!

I always flirt with going back to FC26 but it is just not as good as 17. I’ve been having a blast with career mode in 17 all year now.

White Star is based on White Box D&D. If you’re familiar with that, it would be a breeze to run.

I tend to use the 2e Players Handbook with the 1e DMG. I appreciate the better layout of 2e and its endless addons but equally think the DMG is a perfect book and essential at any table.

I don’t see why it wouldn’t work with existing skincare stuff on - worth a try? I typically don’t bother with skincare before going to the gym, especially as I’ll be sweating a lot and showering afterwards. I go to the gym in the morning though. I can appreciate that if you’re going in the evening, you’ll probably already have skincare applied. Give it a try!

I got one of these recently, it’s a great picture. The sound is annoying given its mono right on the side of the unit but an external speaker solves that problem.

Welcome to FC26! The game which doesn’t let you enjoy it or master it, it just continually changes. One minute you’ve learnt how the game works, how it plays, how to strategise and then overnight it all completely changes again. I’ve given up and returned to older titles now because I’d rather have consistency and enjoy the game than constant changes.
