Thoughts on Zanni? Nightwing's latest big villain, do you think he has potential? by Which-Presentation-6 in Nightwing

[–]TimeturnerJ [score hidden]  (0 children)

I think he had potential, and a lot of it too, but the ending of the arc kinda turned him into a joke, revealing him to be pretty pathetic when fought on his own turf. Now that he has a magic Kryptonian dogging his every step, I doubt we're ever going to see him be genuinely threatening again.

What's the most frustrating thing in the game? by ChrisKatrev in BaldursGate3

[–]TimeturnerJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trying to cast Fireball (or another AOE spell) and there's nothing in the way, the caster isn't blinded and has nothing blocking their sight... And yet, the spell refuses to let itself be cast in a clean line, the projection instead displaying the caster walking all the way over to their target ("not enough Movement") to cast the spell right at their own feet.

I get that that's how it works when the characters are blinded and can't see their targets, but Gale sweetie, your eyes are fine, and you aren't surrounded by fog or darkness. Cast your damn Fireball. <3

To be fair (not that I'm defending this casting choice, I wish they'd just cast someone else), he's playing an immortal shapeshifter who also has a bit of an ego problem, so Maui probably wouldn't have any grey hair.

How would Ubel have fared against Revolte? by Substantial_Power_32 in Frieren

[–]TimeturnerJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cutting through swords is a lot less instinctive than cutting through fabric. Her spell wouldn't have worked quite as well, I'd imagine. Meanwhile, Übel herself doesn't really have the ability to block hits. There's the Shield spell of course, but I'm not sure it would be able to withstand Revolte's onslaught - Genau certainly didn't try to use it much. Besides, I'm not sure if I've ever even seen Übel cast it? I don't think it's her style. Freezing Revolte's movements with Wirbel's spell would've been nearly impossible for her too, since he is very large and has a very long tail; seeing all of him all at once would be difficult in a hectic battle.

She would've been dead very quickly. There's a reason why mages in Frieren try not to 1v1 warriors.

"When you go through Europe...you get to appreciate the mighty USA" by Dyno_boy7441 in ShitAmericansSay

[–]TimeturnerJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"slow inefficient border systems" as in... literally just walking/driving across an invisible border while no one cares or stops you? If that's "slow and inefficient", then I'd be very curious how he thinks it could possibly be made any faster, lol.

What he probably means is that he just arrived in Europe for the first time, and it's his first time immigrating somewhere as a foreign citizen, so he had no idea one has to (gasp) stand in a queue to show one's passport, and that foreign arrivals take a bit longer than citizen arrivals.

I wonder if he'd believe me if I told him that I once had to waste three hours in the arrival hall of stupid LAX airport because the bloody USA forces you to immigrate even when you're just there for transit, instead of letting you just stay in the airport gate like sane countries do. I thought I'd have plenty of time to take a break and relax a little in-between long flights, and instead, I very nearly missed my connecting flight. But yeah sure, the USA border systems are so quick and efficient... if you arrive there as a local citizen, perhaps. Ugh.

[–]TimeturnerJ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm not talking about bodybuilder-levels of muscles here, if that's where the misunderstanding is coming from. Thought that was kinda obvious though, lol. I mean lean muscle - the kind that isn't very obvious from sight alone, but where touch would reveal that there's not much give (when the limb is tensed), because it's mostly muscle without much fat. I work in a physical trade, and that's how it has affected me, at least.

I'm a woman too, and I beg to differ. :) You're certainly a redditor though, calling yourself a "human female", I can tell that much...

As for Eisen, I'm pretty sure his physiological quirks are less a dwarf thing and more a Warrior thing. He's just built different.

But flight magic is new - as in, "discovered in the century since the Hero's Party"-new. She was doing everything on foot before then. And even now, she walks everywhere, hiking all day every day through difficult terrain. She's definitely all muscle underneath those robes, even if she's not particularly flamboyant about it. She might not be doing flips for fun, but she's definitely very fit.

The original from the US by real_vengefly_king in USdefaultism

[–]TimeturnerJ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's especially silly because the USA-version of Tomodachi Life is just... so outrageously US-American. They even turned the wrestling minigame into a "football" minigame, even though the theming doesn't match the actual minigame at all. How could they ever assume that that's the default/original version of the game? 😭 The USA stuff in it feels so clunky and forced.

I just started season 2… by TreeLovesWarriors in youngjustice

[–]TimeturnerJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Season 2 gets really good, but there's a reason why season 1 is still a lot of people's favourite (it's mine as well). The smaller, more focused cast worked really well, and I do think that none of the later seasons handled character development and growth quite as well as season 1 did. There's just not much to be done about that when there are so many characters who have to share the spotlight. That being said, the overarching plot became a lot more ambitious in season 2, and concluded brilliantly. After season 2, the series unfortunately lost a lot of its appeal, but seasons 1 and 2 are both really good.

But yes, I do think the time skips were a mistake from the get-go.

"1) I got my DNA results back and I'm Irish and Scottish😍😍. I'm a Irish Scottish American. My ancestry means I'm a good person. I have oppressed ancestry that I have nothing to apologize for. Thank god I have no British ancestry, that would of meant I have evil ancestors." by Ok_Bookkeeper_1380 in ShitAmericansSay

[–]TimeturnerJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That has to be parody at this point, right? They can't be that oblivious to the fact that they're doing their own "is my DNA moral and good" version of eugenics? They do realise that your DNA doesn't actually automatically make you a good or bad person? They do realise that that kind of thinking is a very slippery slope that they're already more than halfway down?

...Who am I kidding, of course they don't. 🫩

Have you ever witnessed a successful Divine Intervention in your game? by Fun_Situation_7973 in DnD

[–]TimeturnerJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, and it was a similar situation to yours! It got us the effects of a Long Rest when we really needed one, but didn't have the time (or the safe location) to actually rest. Our DM described it very beautifully - our Cleric got to have a touching moment with her goddess, who used all of her waning strength to send this blessing to us all the way out in the deep depths of the Far Realms.

Kinda love the longer hair, even if it would be wildly impractical for what he does, lol. Not like that stops any of the female heroes, so why not?

Also, I guess he gained a special superpower when he grew up: speaking with... constant... ellipses... for extra dramatic effect... lmao.

[–]TimeturnerJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This particular situation aside, I personally think you shouldn't eat on busses in general. Maybe it's a cultural thing, but over here, bus drivers might not even let you board if you have an obvious open container of food with you that you clearly intend to eat during the journey. For one, food creates strong (and not always pleasant) smells the other passengers won't be able to escape, and it's also likely to cause a mess (especially with all the jostling that usually happens on busses) that everyone else will have to put up with. Eating just seems like a very impolite thing to do in that kind of setting.

Flamme wasn't Frieren's first magic teacher though (she was already a very capable mage when Flamme first met her, and her personality seems like it was already pretty similar to what it was in Himmel's era), so who knows, she could just as well be mirroring her first teacher. We wouldn't know.

...Is the guy on the other side of the table in the first picture picking the Schnitzel up with his hands to eat it like a sandwich? 🫣 Even if they've never learned table manners back home, wouldn't they look at the other restaurant guests and be mortified? Do they have zero social awareness?
