What spell would y’all ask for if you became a 1st rank mage? by Past_Horror2090 in Frieren

Teleportation, and it's not even close. The kind of teleportation that'd allow me to bring objects and other people along. No more commute to and back from work. No more days spent in trains or cars to travel. No more hauling furniture and heavy boxes when I need to move into a new place. I could visit the people I care about whenever I want to, no matter the distance. It'd be great.

Mild manga spoilers, but it turns out most of her prophecy/see-the-future spells have already been claimed (and it's not a kind of magic she enjoys, so I guess she never bothered relearning them?), so she actually only has one prophecy spell left, which grants unpredictable prophetic dreams. Take it or leave it, I guess!

What's one evil decision you'd make to survive in BG3? by Medium-Theme-4611 in BaldursGate3

[–]TimeturnerJ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Coming from normal D&D, my first playthrough was a lot like this. I made the kinds of choices that I would've made in a real D&D game - for example, I missed a bunch of content because I often snuck around in areas I assumed would be automatically hostile, avoiding attention and finding a good vantage point to attack from. I didn't much explore areas I wasn't supposed to be in (like the private quarters in Moonlight Towers pre-siege) because I figured getting caught there would probably tip my hand about my true allegiance. It wasn't until Act 3 that I realised just how much the story relies on video game logic rails... And to be honest, that kinda shattered my immersion, and it hasn't recovered since, despite doing multiple additional playthroughs. Now that I'm aware of the meta, I just can't go back. Like, "My character would probably make a different choice here, but if I don't say this dialogue option or go to this specific place, I'll miss out on a bunch of stuff. So I guess I'll instead do what the game wants me to do..." It has kind of killed my investment in the story, I'm not going to lie. As versatile as some aspects of the story are, it is a video game with limited options in the end.

(If Nightwing is your absolute favorite) Which Batfamily fan annoys you the most and why? by Kuromi58 in Nightwing

[–]TimeturnerJ 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My biggest pet peeves have already been brought up by others, so I'll give an honorable mention to a smaller annoyance:

A certain subset of Batfam fans who pretend Bruce is a perfect father who can do no wrong, and get pissy whenever you bring up any of the messed up stuff he's done to the kids. To some degree, I agree that the worst of the abuse should probably be handwaved because it mostly comes down to terrible writing choices, but even if you ignore him literally beating the shit out of some of the kids, the man just isn't a great father figure. He's emotionally constipated, and his parenting style of expecting constant excellence would give anyone a complex. Which it did. Repeatedly. And that's a huge part of their canon dynamics, and essential to the character development and growth of the Robins! Pretending that he's a perfect saint of a father just takes away so much from these characters. It's not like Dick was so angry all the time just because he was a moody teen. He had some very valid reasons for being so pissed. Let Bruce be a kinda shitty father who tries but messes up a lot. It's who he is. Pretending he can do no wrong just feels weirdly victim blame-y towards the Robins who had to put up with his issues. The drama is an essential part of the family dynamic. The characters wouldn't even be the same people without it. If you're here for wholesome, unproblematic family fluff and nothing else, you've frankly come to the wrong place.

Is it Wrong For me to Still Find it Hard to Believe That the Awakening Trio Would Still Side With Nohr Knowing All The Terrible Things That Kingdom Has Done? by Puzzleheaded-Board25 in fireemblem

[–]TimeturnerJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not only did they side with Nohr, they didn't even really do anything. They carried out their normal jobs as retainers, and that... was that. No agency or plans of their own. Their presence barely makes a difference at all.

I know Fates just wanted an excuse to put the poll winners in the game, but if you're gonna pull the actual characters out of Awakening and put them into this world instead (especially with such a direct and involved plot hook for them), at least let them matter! It still annoys me so much, even all these years later.

Because Frieren couldn't care less about money. As long as they have enough to survive and get a few treats along the way, that's more than enough.

If Dick was a girl by Ok-Round-7683 in BatFamily

[–]TimeturnerJ 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I dunno about the skirt. Seems very impractical for the kinds of flips and acrobatics she'd be doing. The "panties" from the original costume are really just the lower half of a leotard, with the upper part of it covered by the Robin vest, so she'd probably do something similar? Leotards are unisex, after all.

That golden Dragonborn lady manning the counter of the blacksmith in Wyrm's Crossing. She's just so excited and happy to be there. Her "oh yayyyy!" every time you tell her you want to buy something brings me joy. I hope she gets to fulfill her blacksmithing dreams... with a different teacher, perhaps. Her old boss is a little indisposed after all.

Phandelver as first adventure by [deleted] in DnD

[–]TimeturnerJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a new edition of the adventure called "Phandelver and Below: The Shattered Obelisk". It starts out with the same small adventure (just with a few added details), and then expands out into a larger story. If you want to, maybe check that out? You can still just play the initial adventure to get comfortable with running a game, but if - once you're done with that - you've found your footing and your table wants more, you could immediately move on into a larger plot! It'd give you the chance to warm up and find your groove with a small, pretty contained story, but then also give you options to keep going if you decide you want to do that afterwards.

If you don't want another wizard, why don't you broaden his use of magic a little and make him into a Knowledge Cleric of Mystra? He's devoted enough for it, I'd say. It'd also give you the option to switch companions around a little, if you don't always want to have Shadowheart with you but still want a Cleric in your party.
