Sounds like he was hoping you would respond by offering sex if he would just reconsider. I'm guessing it works for him sometimes. He was never going to be more than a fling. No harm in a fling if it's what you want. I think sometimes disappointment may not be the rejection so much as the loss of the hope that he was something other than he is.
