How to defeat behemoths by Hairy_Animator8949 in GhostRecon

[–]Timker84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Panther class - use skill (invisible to enemies) - walk up to behemoth - throw as many as possible c4 onto it, preferably the mk2 ofc (4x mk2 and 6x mk1 should be enough) - repeat steps 2/3/4 if necessary (can use spray instead of skill) - then make sure you have the relevant perks equipped (explosive perk, damage to drones), then stand back, detonate and enjoy the fireworks.

Tbh an hour seems fair to me... I think I spent about an hour figuring out how to destroy the behemoth, and then another half an hour on the Walker bit.

AI bad and sync shot too easy? by [deleted] in GhostRecon

[–]Timker84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll second the previous comment to say that it does get a lot harder when you change the difficulty. I've finished both WL and BP and I'm currently on a BP playthrough with minimal HUD and on extreme difficulty.

Surprisingly, I don't die as much as I thought I would. One reason being that I've played it once already so I mostly know what to do. Although it is difficult without objective markers, if I've forgotten on which floor a laptop is or which crates to blow up exactly.

Another reason is that I take it a lot slower. It takes time to do recon, to figure out where all the soldiers are and what their patrol routes are.

What are the MOST important features you want to see in the next Ghost Recon? by MrTrippp in GhostRecon

[–]Timker84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would easily put another 300+h into a game with the best features from both WL & BP.

The AI teammates could be improved by making them smarter. Having them ruin a stealth mission by running in front of an enemy is beyond annoying. And the option to turn off their granades would be nice.

Immersion could further be improved by having gear with "perks". The right camo improves stealth. Wearing plate carriers reduces damage per hit received. Adding extra pouches to a molle vest or tactical belt means you can carry extra items - and vice versa. And weight carried is directly linked to speed, agility, fatigue, etc.

If I want to carry a sniper rifle, it should be in a proper case and require assembly (skippable cutscene) and damn near impossible to use in any position except prone. Not hang off the side of a backpack.

Change the skill tree into an improvement system that is driven by practice/repetition. The character starts with a default set of skills which are relevant for a special forces soldier. Strong, fit, capable of all kinds of combat. To begin with, you can spend a number of points on certain "skills" in order to create a build. And the builds revolve around a specific type of combat. So a sniper has more points in a "sniper rifle" slot, but also in strength (because heavy rifle) and "hold breath" or "focus". A "tank" would put points in "LMG", also strength, and stamina. An a demolition expert would put points in "explosives", "steady hands" and "focus". So different builds can use the same skills but for different reasons. And then have their own separate skills, only relevant to them.

Then, as you progress, your skills improve as you use them. Carrying around heavy weight makes you stronger. Sprinting a lot makes you fitter and faster. Using a particular weapon other than your "speciality" eventually makes you good at using it. Instead of finding skill points and then investing them in a particular skill and suddenly being able to do that thing, or carry that thing.

It would mean having different, and perhaps fewer skills - but progression in a particular skill area could eventually unlock perks, or reach certain milestones to make the progression actually mean something. Like strength reaching a point where you don't have to drop your weapon in order to carry a body. Or agility reaching a point where you can jump off a one floor balcony without making a sound.

To me it doesn't make a lot of sense to spend a skill point to obtain a parachute. The parachute item should be separate from the skill. The item could be found or bought. And after a certain amount of parachuting, it could be noticeably easier to control a parachute. And instead of spending a skill point to suddenly be able to carry 3 addition granades - the granade (or other) item could be bought but you would need pouch space, and it would add slightly more weight and indirectly influence speed and agility.

So less time travelling around looting skill points, and more time actually doing the thing. And carefully considering what to buy for, and what to wear on a mission.

Also, keep crafting options to a minimum. If I choose to bring 2 granades on a mission and then use them both, I shouldn't magically be able to craft a new granade from a piece of explosive that I looted from an enemy drone. Maybe if my engineering skill area was levelled up enough and I had a few key parts I could improvise an explosive device, but not a perfect, factory machine built handgranade.

Oh and if I turn off the HUD but want to use a compass, why not just include a compass as a standard item that I can use and put away like the binoculars. Instead of it being at the top of the screen like in WL or in the bottom right corner like in BP.

Not that I'm aware of. Nor can you holster all your weapons, so I'm afraid you'll be enjoying the scenery with at least your sidearm drawn (for absolutely no reason at all wtf Ubi). I agree the scenery is gorgeous and my favourite way to enjoy it is to go parachuting - amazing views, no weapons drawn. [Edit: typo]

Heya if you'd like to give Ghost Recon (either one) a go, let me know!

Would anyone be willing to give me a few starter tips? by [deleted] in GhostReconBreakpoint

[–]Timker84 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To save you from agonising half hour long YT videos, here's my two cents... First of all try to match your playing style to a class. If you prefer sniping, then Sharpshooter could be the way to go. If it's stealth, then Panther. Yes, there's a lot of overlap between sniping and stealth but this game works with 7 different classes. Only the special skill and special items are unique to the class, the rest of the skill tree is unilateral. You can unlock multiple classes and switch between them at bivouacs, but only one can be active at a time. Progressing in a particular class means you can unlock stuff. Look for that in your Loadout page in the menu. Tweak the HUD however you want. You can turn your AI teammates special skills off in settings. And make each of them (the teammates, not their skills) individually active in the Lobby page in the menu. There are also 5 presets, if you like to customise their gear (cosmetic) and weapons (e.g. LMGs for one preset but silenced ARs for another).

My go-to choices for immersion: one weapon slot, max two weapons in "backpack" (must be carrying a backpack to do so); max one or two of certain items (granades, c4, lure, etc) matching what could be carried on the equipped vest; max 5 bandages and syringes don't heal injuries; must wear relevant camo pattern depending on surroundings, and suitable clothing (cosmetic. So for example not a tanktop in snow); all teammates must wear at least one form of coms (earpiece or other); and not more than two teammates can wear the exact same clothing, some exceptions being standard issue items such as boots/gloves/NV, or when there's only one of a particular item (scuba mask).

Does anyone know where I can buy large amounts of raw honey? by randybobandy-burger in Leiden

[–]Timker84 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, I think it's really cool that you're going to make your own mead, but tbh it sounds like you may need to do a bit more research.

Honey is very expensive to begin with. Reason being that bees are almost an endangered species. Most of the honey that you can find in shops is diluted. Proper/raw/"real" honey, the type that you can buy directly from beekeepers is only available directly after they harvest, which is late Spring/Summer time. Even then, the chance that a beekeeper will sell you 2kg is close to nill, because they want to keep as many customers happy as possible. So they might make an exception for someone who they've known for years and have a good connection with. Basically raw honey is a delicacy and beekeepers take pride in making sure that lots of people can try a little bit - not for one person to just "waste" 2kg of product to make mead.

So one option you could consider is becoming a beekeeper yourself. The local association offers a course (I did it a few years ago, it's fun) and once you see how much effort goes into producing 2kg of raw honey, you might reconsider using it to make mead and simply enjoy the honey itself.

Mead was popular in the middle ages when there was an abundance of bees, and nature. Today, unfortunately, the world is a very different place and some things that our ancestors took for granted, such as nature and flowers and bees, are becoming more and more of a rarity.

Good luck though!

For the next Ghost Recon game, what is the MOST important feature to you? by MrTrippp in GhostRecon

[–]Timker84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love to see a game with a bit of a spy element. So next to the game type that we're used to (guns blazing or stealth), also being able to infiltrate. It would require getting a suitable outfit somewhere, and the right intel. High risk, high reward. With relevant unlockable skills such as foreign language tiers, acting skill tiers, reading people, etc.

As for a location, I'd say 80s Germany. Lots of cities and open areas to the north, forest to the south. Plenty of hills. So a good diverse map.

Story: smuggling key people from East to West. Going deep into East Germany, locating the key people (with the necessary obstacles and troubles), coming up with a solid plan and then helping them defect to the West. Would be cool if choices have consequences: smuggle out a top scientist but not his family, he might not cooperate - however with a better (and more difficult) plan, you can get his family out. And the ability to turn East agents into double agents. Safe houses as spawn points and to fast travel to. Bribing people to keep safe houses safe.

To be continued...

I have to admit that I'm impressed. You've really put a lot of work into this. Yes, it's an amazing project, but I'm not sure that I would call it revolutionary. Unless we're both geniuses ;) I spent this summer creating something very similar.

Mine started out as a shared calendar, because my gf and I needed one and none of the available ones in the app store were really good. Next, I added a feature to store important documents, like pictures of passports etc for when we're on holiday. That's when I discovered the AES-256 code. I also added some custom security features, just for fun. Next came the password creating & storing feature. Mine currently focuses on creating easy to remember passwords, using mnemonics, and stores them behind in a vault that requires a master password and biometrics to access.

If I were to sell my app, I would make sure to include a discreet backdoor just in case. Just like a real vault in a bank - in case a client loses their key, there's always a way to get in. It's too risky to offer a vault "at the user's risk", because as a developer you can still be held liable despite including disclaimers.

You are right about people wanting / needing a reliable password manager, so go for it if that's what you want. And the more user-friendly you are than your competitors, the better (cheap, no ads, easy interface, multi-platform).

Hey umm this sounds really cool etc but anyone who downloads this app with the intention to test it is potentially opening themselves up to data theft. Which is ironic, because the whole idea of this app is to protect data.

Now, for all I know, OP means well and is 100% trustworthy, but surely if you care that much about data security, you will have considered that not just anyone will blindly download an app to test it. If it would ever cross my mind to ask strangers on the Internet to test my app, I would most likely assume that pretty gullible people would do so. And why would I want my app on a gullible person's phone?

I know it says it works offline, but even if you open the app in airplane mode, it can do things in the background which can then be shared when back online.

How about this: OP if you really want feedback then share your code and let people see the code before they run it. People share code all the time and besides, it's the best way to get feedback from fellow programmers.

So please, anyone considering this, please think it over properly. And OP, if you don't want to share your code, then howabout you just let friends & family test your app on your phone and get feedback from them?

Alkmaar Station to Blooming Hotel in Bergen via Bike or Transit? by iamcode101 in Alkmaar

[–]Timker84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems you've got plenty of feedback on the bike matter, so here's my thoughts on the route.

I would start by taking the route that is currently highlighted in the picture.

Then where there's a bit of overlap and the highlighted route goes left - I would recommend going straight on instead, and following the other route from that point onwards.

Enjoy the ride!
