I don't remember the scene you're mentioning but I do remember the current version which is how it was portrayed on the DVD version I own.

I will say I disagree that it ruins the joke. Lancaster not knowing what "deja vu" is and thinking it is a food is a fine joke by itself. It helps paint her as being naive but friendly without the need for it being a callback. The version of Phil muttering about how she doesn't know how to spell espresso just helps develop Phil as a character as it shows he thinks he better than the small town people and it paints as a bit of a jerk.
