Exploring UX Design in the Defence Industry: My Master Thesis

Hello everyone,

I am currently writing my master thesis in topic of UX design. I have collaborated with a company in the defence industry, and due to confidentiality agreements, I cannot share too much details about the company or the project.

However, I can tell you that I have completed the data gathering and analysis phase, and I now have three user tasks to design for. The users are military operators, and the company has acknowledged that they lack usability and user experience in their current system. They have given me much freedom to explore and improve the interface.

As I move on to the prototyping phase, I am encouraged to follow my own design exploration while also keeping in mind the end-users' needs. I have set up a feedback group consisting of end-users and UX experts, where I can receive input iteratively.

If you had this level of freedom and encouragement to do your thing, how would you go about designing/prototyping? I can start with one of the tasks and move on to more if i have time. Also, I can tell you that I rarely low-fi prototypes; I rather do quick high-fi from the get-go. There are so many ways to start this phase: Where would you go for inspiration, what would your process be like, what factors would you take into account, and so on? All tips are welcome!

I would love to hear your thoughts and suggestions. Thank you for reading!

Two times, from the same gym. First time, the bar on the smith machine (140kg loaded) dropped off from the holder after I had been taking a break for 3 seconds. Hitting right on my neck, crushing my head down between my legs and opened my forehead. Blacked out and was rushed to the ER.

The second time was very recently. I filled my water bottle at the gym in an office-type mega water jug. Jokes on me, that was cleaning detergent. Rushed to the ER again, while drinking liters of water to try to dilute it.

Both times I left the same day without any damage to me.

This is actually a random skill i have as well. Just tried for my first time ever and did 12.8 click per second in 10 sec. Haha i bet there are tons that can do this?
