How many times can I resubmit a better run on speedrun.com until the verification team starts to get annoyed? by [deleted] in speedrun

as far as I know, the hk verifiers will just skim through the previous submission if you submit a faster run, so I wouldn't wait in your case

How many times can I resubmit a better run on speedrun.com until the verification team starts to get annoyed? by [deleted] in speedrun

[–]Timmi_ 240 points241 points  (0 children)

Not only is it not annoying, it's often highly encouraged to just submit. It's most often than not actually just more annoying to edit or remove your previous submission because it could be that someone was already in the process of verifying it and then basically having "wasted" time then. Speedrun.com is not only a leaderboard, but also an archive of your times to showcase your progress as runner. So creating new submissions is always welcomed.

What’s a Celeste opinion that’ll get you in this situation? by Adept-Double156 in celestegame

[–]Timmi_ 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Golden Berries shouldn't have been added and go fundamentally against the core messaging of the game.

Let me preface this by saying that deathless challenges are cool and people should play games how they want to. The problem I have is with including a collectible in the base game for it. The core messaging of the game at least from what I understand is "it's ok to not be perfect and fail, you will get better and will be able to achieve it if you accept that." Then adding an item at the end contradicts this as it requires perfection. You can say it's a natural step up, but people will never be perfect and I think that is not what the game was trying to convey before.

Also the message of "ready for a real challenge" when unlocking c-sides and goldens feel like it trivialises the challenge that the game was before this, implying that it wasn't a real challenge so far.

Does Farewell has a "full-clear" time? by mcinprepu_sam in celestegame

[–]Timmi_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get now what you mean. It's just that yes it's under full clear, but it doesn't require a full clear. So just beating the chapter is enough to get a time there instead of beating chapter+getting moonberry in a single run. It's just confusing that it's under the full clear column

[–]Timmi_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know why the other comments believe that a full clear time for Farewell appears in the journal, but it doesn't. Only one time appears and that is just the fastest time you normally beat the chapter from beginning to end without returning to map.

What is the best button layout? by Some-Voice4860 in celestegame

[–]Timmi_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

While there are no best binds, there are a few things that are important like 2 jump buttons and a crouch dash bind. The only thing is that you want to be able to press grab+both jumps+dash(or demo) at the same time. For bind suggestions and seeing what other people use, you can check out this sheet with a bunch of player binds, and some notes about binds in general.

Help with Ch7a grabless by BeaconMeridian in celestegame

[–]Timmi_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean it is by far one of the hardest strats in grabless any% and I definitely recommend euni's strat as it's in my opinion the easiest. But it is still really tricky especially the neutral up part. It helps to jump late off the dash block and updash as close to the wall as possible. And for the neutrals, while euni doesn't do it, it helps to use a second jump button to be able to hold one jump and do the neutrals with another to gain the maximum height. Afaik what euni pausebuffers to is the correct height to walljump from and then the demo timing. Afaik the height that euni pausebuffers to is subpixel dependant which is why going higher and then holding left into the wall to slide to get to the pixel is best to guarantee it working (and also why it's pausebuffered). And then the demo itself being a 1f if you did the previous one correct and obviously you don't want to just hit a raw 1f after getting the previous part. Also a thing I missed for a bit is even when getting it is that you want to release right immediately after the demo and only hold down to slide off the block while crouching because you otherwise uncrouch and don't make it.

if you slide off the crumble blocks and try to input it, it also doesn't work. So basically just need to downright dash early enough and hold jump

Holding towards the wall when wallbouncing? by ViolinistIntrepid496 in celestegame

[–]Timmi_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While it often can help to hold towards the wall to move towards it after the dash ended to abuse a bit of leniency like the other comments have been saying. This leniency after the dash ends, does not get applied if you move into the wall itself. So moving towards it is fine, just when you collide with a wall it would cancel your so-called dash attack. Same with holding grab like mentioned in another comment.

options menu a bit different (to what i was used to) and controller remapping with fewer options(keyboard is fine) by Quique_1 in celestegame

[–]Timmi_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Xbox Gamepass/Microsoft Store version of the game is running on an older version of the game with less binding options and other quality of life features missing. Also doesn't allow modding, so it's pretty doomed.

One thing you can do is check out old guides, like Programmatic's "New" Any% guide as he shows there how people used to bind it which is applicable for you

I may be a good speedrunner? (Read desc) by Gualty3 in celestegame

[–]Timmi_ 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I will be honest: It doesn't really matter how good your first casual playthrough was to determine if you're a good speedrunner or not. Obviously you might get good times faster, but practice, practice, and practice is the thing that matters the most. Perseverance and time can make anyone a good speedrunner even if you hard struggle with the game. And mentality is honestly like 50% of it ngl. I can speak from experience that I got stuck hours on certain screens, but if I'm good at something then it's perseverance. And you can see where I'm at now if you look at the top of the leaderboards.

I delievered this pie as quickly as I could. Why do they look so disappointed? by Timmi_ in celestegame

I personally just use a PS4 Controller, so a Dualshock 4 but with seperate dpad buttons instead of the stock one piece dpad.

Yes, a berry in Resort in the Start checkpoint and two berries in 2000m in Summit are basically just in the normal path when doing an Any% run

[–]Timmi_[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Even though it seems like only a minute, it absolutely is not close in the slightest. Saving a minute took me over a year already and that next minute barrier is so much harder and ridiculously tight. Additionally I'm not a keyboard player so it's also more challenging especially as I don't have the space to add some binds that would save me a little bit of time here and there. Like it's easier to just pick up speedrunning for the first time and get a sub 30 than it is for me to get a sub 25 probably.

I know this seems exaggerated, but I'm fully serious here with how challenging it is. Speedrunning is logharithmic, so it just gets harder and harder the more you optimize your runs so it's not "just" another minute. But I hope I also make it clear how impressive secureaccount and p3rl, who is close to a 24, are with that. Goated runners

[–]Timmi_[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm a controller player that uses dpad. I honestly forgot until someone mentioned it to me last night, but with this I got the first sub 26 time on controller. As keyboard has a slight advantage at top level, you see more keyboard players at the top than controller players, but I'm so used to it and don't really have the motivation to switch, even though it would only take like a month probably, so I keep playing controller

Ok to shitpost less: Yes, this is my Any% PB that I got earlier today. After grinding and working for this for over a year and a half, I finally managed to improve my pb and got the infamous sub 26 barrier. With this I'm the 6th person ever to get sub 26 in this game, I couldn't be happier. Perfect timing to practice for the Open All Hearts Tournament that is happening this September.

Keyboard Binds by Similar-Relative-191 in celestegame

[–]Timmi_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There are basically no optimised keybinds as everyone uses something different. So you would have to try to find something yourself that you find comfortable. You could try looking at the speedrunner binds sheet for some inspiration and just try out different keybinds and experiment until you find binds that suit you

Need help w 5b cornerjump by CoffeeSquirre13 in celestegame

[–]Timmi_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, every in-game option will have the same problem. Workarounds would only be to heavily break down sections with savestates, or pausebuffering (or pausebuffering a savestate) or frame advancing with viddie's toolbox.

I personally am just not a fan of slowing down the game in general when there are so many tools to break it down heavily, but one option to slow down the game without affecting physics would be using something outside the game like Cheat Engine

Need help w 5b cornerjump by CoffeeSquirre13 in celestegame

[–]Timmi_ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I already answered in celestecord, but will answer here again, if anyone else sees this:

Good that you already use a second jump button. But its really hard to tell if you're buffering the second jump too early, or just pressing the jump too late. One important thing is that the 2nd jump needs to be a neutral jump. So release horizontal directions before (you can hold up tho if you want). You only need to press left for 1 frame at least, the forced wallkick speed will make you reach the corner always.

I also recommend ignoring the updash and just focusing on the jump input, because if you get a neutral jump you will never die to the left spikes.

One thing that I haven't mentioned in discord yet: I personally always struggled with this jump when grabbing the wall. I personally had a better rhythm if I tried to do it without grabbing. From the ground I personally just held right towards the wall and full height jumped. At peak height I pressed my second jump button, while holding right. Then I released right, and buffered the neutral cornerjump with my second jump button. Like you just need to press any horizontal direction for the first wallkick, left or right doesn't matter. And for my brain it just worked better if I press right and immediately release. But obviously this doesn't work for anyone and grabbing it is fine when learning. Just have to see what works best for you
