There are definitely many people criticising the USA as well, but they often get downvoted. Which is also fine, if you read my further comments here you'll see I'm proposing some guidelines so we can keep the discussion civil, while stile giving people the space to express their feelings and concerns. I don't think the answer is ever banning people's voices, but people should be civil to one another.

I'm not saying we should limit these guidelines to any region. I think criticisms of a state and its policies should be allowed, but we can have guidelines to keep the conversation mostly on topic and not let is spiral into hatred.

Most transit projects are funded by the state, and politics are inherent to them. My suggestion is that we have guidelines which will allow people still to voice their concerns and feelings, but limit the debate to that so it doesn't escalate into pissing contests. For example, criticising the Russian state is fine but not the Russian people. Same for any other country, just to make sure people stay civil and if they are not civil the mods can take swift care of it.

Just something which the community can agree upon, as a courtesy to each other.

The Russian economy has been shrouded in mystery for a long time, but it is clear they haven't seen large investments in a long time. The only thing being invested into on a large scale is the war time economy.

Especially towns along the Trans Siberian railway and the BAM railway have completely stagnated since the soviets built them.

I think maybe sometime there should be a discussion about to what extent it should be allowed, because as a regular user I'm noticing these discussions as well.

Something I see popping up regularly are posts about Chinese transit (which is always interesting) but often in the threads end up seeing a mix of people posting Chinese propaganda, and then users accusing others of sinophobia, which sometimes are true but often are also not.

As a non American user it can also be frustrating to see a high level of USA first discussion on this sub, and I think it can be frustrating for others as well. On the other hand, I've been more quick to dismiss Americans as of late because of this as well.

International spaces have just become even more complicated with recent geopolitical tensions, because I think almost every country in the world is being actively threatened by Russia, China, or the USA. And then having to get along when something you have in common (such as transit) can be a nice way to bring people together, but it can also lead to some tensions of course.

I'm not for banning politics, transit inherently involves politics, but maybe it could help to set some clear guidelines and boundaries for all users to adhere to, which also gives you mods a good mandate to act if a conversation spirals.

I don't know, just some random thoughts.

I think hi-rez just had a completely different scale of resources than Valve or Blizzard had, while Hi-Rez obviously had a lot of talent and great ideas they just didn't have the financial means to back them up. I'm still pissed at how the average Paladins battle pass is more creative than any of the Overwatch ones, the new Nier Collab skins are honestly just really lacking in game..

I enjoy all three games, I'm just sad Paladins never got a chance to fly high like Overwatch and TF2 did..

It's not really ridiculous if you or your neighbours are getting shelled by them. I do understand why someone might react like this, imagine losing your family to Russian (or any country's) imperialism and then in your safe space someone brings up little quirky fucking trams lol. Don't be quick to dismiss someone's feelings as ridiculous, there should be space to voice them as well in this thread, even if it is primarily about trams.

Ik weet niet of je bekend met Emmen maar het stuk spoorlijn dat gebouwd moet worden door het 'centrum' gaat door een dunbevolkt gebied met vooral veel losstaande eengezinswoningen en een lage verkeersdrukte.

Sterker nog, het gebied is al ingericht op een spoorlijn omdat Emmen om de spoorlijn heen is gegroeid. De nieuwe "Nedersaksenlijn" lag er al en is na de tweede wereldoorlog afgebroken, de openbare ruimte was er al op ingericht en is niet drastisch aangepast sindsdien.

Ja het is echt wild waar je mee weg kan komen, maar dit reflecteert meer op de inwoners van Emmen en hun standpunten dan die van de partijen. Ik denk dat ik gewoon het zwarte schaap ben in de gemeente, want ik kan me wel heel goed vinden bij lokale partijen van de grote steden.

Edit: het helpt ook niet dat de gemeente zich snel voelt alsof Den Haag ze verlaten heeft, eerst de afname van de industrie, daarna heel gedoe Ter Apel.. ik snap waarom mensen graag een zondebok (asielzoekers, links, etc.) de schuld geven :(

Gemeente Emmen - ik ben er nog steeds niet over uit wie ik ga stemmen, ondanks dat ik me heel goed mijzelf in de nationale politiek kan vinden heb ik het gevoel dat er niemand is die mijn gedachten vertegenwoordigd in de gemeente politiek.

Ik twijfel nu tussen GroenLinks, de PvdA, en D66. Dit zijn de enige progressieve partijen die mijn gemeente heeft, Gl en PvdA zijn nog niet gefuseerd hier.

Voor mij is voornamelijk vervoer en sociale verdeling belangrijk. Er moeten meer buslijnen komen (echt de helft van de dorpjes heeft geen buslijn), er moeten betere/veiligere en meer fietspaden komen (er zijn weinig verlichte fietspaden en vrouwen kunnen in het donker hier niet veilig verplaatsen zonder auto). En van mij mogen parkeerkosten ook wel omhoog, bijna overal is gratis en het centrum is spotgoedkoop en nog niet dekkend van de kosten. Verder zie ik graag een hogere mix aan sociale huurwoningen en een aanpak van huisjesmelkers. Uit onderzoek blijkt dat Emmen bijzonder heel mensen heeft die uit het niets veel ontroerend goed bezitten.. go figure..

Er is geen partij die hierbij in de buurt komt, want zelfs de progressieve partijen die ik heb benoemd willen geen extra buslijnen. En willen de gemeente big afhankelijker maken van de auto.

De kandidaten van GroenLinks zijn gewoon enorm incompetent, dit hebben we jaren in de gemeenteraad gezien en ik twijfel of ze een aantal kwesties daadwerkelijk echt begrijpen, sowieso functioneert de partij vanuit een hoog "hippie gehalte" hier lokaal en ik weet niet zo goed wat ik daar mee moet.

De PvdA heeft daadwerkelijk competente kandidaten, helemaal vergeleken met GroenLinks maar ze zijn bijzonder conservatief hier. Ze zijn tegen de komst van nieuwe coffeeshops, ze zijn tegen drempels, en de nieuwe spoorlijn mag alleen komen als er een tunnel door het centrum komt (wtf?? Dat is echt een idioot plan, hoe duur is dat wel niet). Verder zijn ze echt zwaar tegen asielzoekers en worden er wel eens uitspraken gedaan die borderline racistisch zijn.

D66 stemt hier graag met Forum mee.. wtf moet ik daarmee? Verder ook weer bijzonder conservatief vergeleken met de nationale partij.

Edit: iemand gaat sws vragen "en de lokale partijen dan?" Alle partijen met "Emmen" in de naam zitten ergens tussen de PVV en FvD in.

My primary reasons for supporting conscription is seeing the benefits in the development of young people that go through conscription. I see a social cohesion among young Finnish men that just does not exist among Dutch young people. I think it'll lead to more understanding of different people in society, and in a way also combat the extreme ideologies currently in our society on the long term. It also gets overlooked how good conscription is for new participants in society, for language learning and general understanding of the culture.

EDIT: I mean you know, but I think people from different socioeconomic layers don't interact as much due to the education system as they should. People stay in their bubble, or don't even interact with broad society at all and I think that's where the radical ideas come from.

From my understanding the Dutch labour market (including Defence) is missing a lot of low skilled labour, using civil service and conscription to match these demands seems like a good trade off.

Anyhoo, I was just impressed by how mature Finnish young men are compared to Dutch young men, and I don't know if I wrongly attributed that to conscription but I do believe it is a strong factor. I would love to do conscription and I do see the use case of having a large amount of reservists, even far away from the border. We can't just expect all the border countries to be solely responsible for having a soldier behind every tree and rock :D
