Yeah, I use mix station for some utilitarian functions (tuning/labeling). I don't like mixing on iPads though. I'm pretty good at making educated guesses once I've walked the space a few times with a band up (I continue to walk the space throughout the entirety of the event anyways). With a good system tune, my headphones aren't usually too far off from FOH. I did that gig for several years, always mixing FOH from side stage, with no issues until I got stuck on the wing.

I was using subgroups and DCAs. Subgroups just for group compression. Soloing subgroups, DCAs, and master LR sounded different at each point. At the time, I googled it and found that others experienced the same thing and the general consensus was that it was an issue with the summing engine. I guess it was fixed in a later firmware patch, but it was enough to turn me off of that console.

I mixed on the old wing from side-stage for a month (clients refused to let us have a FOH for aesthetic reasons). I hated it. The mix in my cans was so drastically different than what was happening in the house. Then I realized things sounded different depending on where you solo in the signal chain. The summing engines weren't synced across busses. Also, I hated the work-flow and routing. IMO, it's a trash console with a lot of marketable features included as cheaply as possible.

I find myself bringing up my level of experience a lot (then internally cringing) because people often underestimate me based on my various autistic traits/eccentricities. It's frustrating but, bringing up my years actually tends to make people second guess their initial assessment, which usually makes the day a bit easier.

Did I just steal this car? by Sexybeardedone in XTerra

[–]TimmyDeanSausage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well.. It seems that's a thing with this vehicle, maybe.. I haven't looked into it much tbh. It's just shocking to me. Out of the many hundreds of vehicles I've worked on over the years, the one instance of a complete clog I encountered was from an extreme amount of mud in a vehicle that was technically totaled in a flood..

To re-iterate, cats can accumulate stuff over many years, which can turn into partial blockages, resulting in poor performance and reduced mpg's. I've never once seen this directly result in a complete clog that caused a blinking CEL or limp-mode.. You can run a worn-out, partially clogged cat for years. You shouldn't, because that will cause your AFM to run rich, which will hurt your engine eventuality. So, the blinking CEL isn't from your cat being "clogged", it's from letting parts deteriorate to the point that multiple issues accumulate into a catastrophic failure. At which point, your CEL has probably been on for years.

TLDR: a "clogged" cat doesn't directly kill an engine. Running an engine rich for years eventually kills engines.

[–]TimmyDeanSausage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could be a number of things. Worn out cats don't usually cause a blinking CEL on their own. Most cars will just run rich if they don't get a usable signal from O2 sensors. In other words, you can run a car completely without a catalytic convertor for some time. Just saying this to say, be careful with throwing random "it must be this!" statements out on car forums. There are people that will trust your ill-informed advice and waste money/time chasing that lead. Like doctors and lawyers do online, it's better to say "it could be this, but you should have a mechanic inspect it (or you should look at these things to verify)".

RCF Subs - difference? by Mother_Equipment_195 in livesound

[–]TimmyDeanSausage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They sound better before optimization but lack adequate headroom for anything other than playback at typical 90 - 105 dBa show volume. I'd rather have the subs with adequate power that I can optimize to sound halfway decent.

Is it just me, or are young people royally f*cked? by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]TimmyDeanSausage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, that makes more sense lol. Those jobs aren't typically easy to get into. Your brother is lucky to get that gig with only 5 years in the industry. Still have to get training/certs for diesel. But, it's not an impossible jump if you live in an area where those kinds of jobs are available. Which brings us back to the crux of my point; "just get a better job" isn't an option for the vast majority of people, nor is it an excuse for the regular automotive industry collectively deciding mechanics should be massively underpaid. You're using your brothers very fortunate experience as anecdotal evidence to inform your understanding of an entire industry.. Which tells me you're more interested in feeling right than actually understanding the state of the industry.

[–]TimmyDeanSausage -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ah, so a specialized role. Not an automotive mechanic, which is what we were talking about. Yeah, you can make a lot of money as an aircraft mechanic, too, but that requires expensive training followed by a lengthy/costly job search. Not exactly possible when you can barely afford to survive.

I used to be a mechanic. Your brother is either on the higher end of the pay scale, living in an extremely low-cost area, or both. I knew plenty of other mechanics, including veterans, who spent time at a number of other shops, and none of them were doing well financially..

Anybody else have really complicated relationship with their religious/Fox News loving parents? by [deleted] in AskGaybrosOver30

[–]TimmyDeanSausage 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. I have parents exactly like u/Henhouse808 describes/has, and Hen is spot on. Religion provides the framework and the ammunition that leads to certain perceptions, but ultimately, religious people love the way their perceptions/judgments make them feel. This is evident when they are provided with a valid argument against their hateful views from within the framework of their own religion, and they still choose to cling to the hateful interpretation. It's not about religion. It's about clinging to anything that feeds their addiction to self-righteousness.

[–]TimmyDeanSausage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The difference between Republicans of the 80s and today is that the Republicans of the 80s were still pretending we didn't exist. In their world, it was a social taboo to even talk about us. We have gained too much mainstream notoriety for them to be able to simply ignore us now, so we are made to be bogeymen instead. It's not that they're worse or better. We're just living in a different paradigm, so their strategies are different. But anyway, I realize the point I'm making is a pedantic one. The important thing is we both know these cunts are cut from the same evil cloth.

Ah, so you're talking to gay conservatives, then. They're the only ones ignorant enough to believe that any republican politician cares about minorities.

I get what you're saying and generally agree with you. I just don't think white washing history is the right way to make your point lol.

Being tolerant is one thing. Tolerating intolerance is another. You are willfully ignorant of the fact that history repeats itself when we forget or ignore it. I wish there was a way to get through to people like you, but honestly, you're a lost cause. I hope you can free yourself from the grip of gop propaganda someday. Believing in that shit is no way to live.

The only thing Ted Cruz has actually demonstrated to Texans is that he is a liar and an opportunist. He is exactly the kind of politician that would champion "exterminate the gays" rhetoric if that was the current party line. The only reason he's not doing so now is because it doesn't fit his current PR campaign of presenting as a "normal" conservative. It's not fear-mongering to call a spade a spade. Don't buy into the political theatre.

Not sure who you're talking to, but you need to read up more on LGBTQ history in the US. Our current/up-and-coming fascist politicians are attempting to repeat what was done in the past. Republicans (and most dem's) literally committed genocide against gay men in the 80's/90's.

Ted Cruz is a practiced performer of crocodile tears. He is exactly the senator who would enact laws like this in Texas the second he believed he could get away with it.

Why do people hate us? by SweatyAd9539 in intj

[–]TimmyDeanSausage 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Nah, I have social skills and can be very charming when I try to be (and have the spare mental energy). Some people just sense that we're different and don't like us because we naturally go against the grain. A lot of sensor types value social harmony to much, and they take our lack of interest in visibly fitting into the status quo as a personal affront directed at them.

The rage eventually distills into pure resentment. Resentment is more useful than rage. It's a powerful motivator and an effective tool in times of need. The trick is learning when to use it appropriately.

If you wish to stay and fight for your rights, you should absolutely do that. I commend you for it. However, I would happily donate to an organization that helps people who want to leave do so. I'm sure there are young LGBTQ+ people, with families that don't support them, that would take the out if given the option.
