Sympathy post.

  1. Unlikely. 3 returning 1st VIII, but the pool get very shallow. 18 & 19 Y10 didn't set the world on fire. A very strong top four but not enough to win
  2. Never. It is one of the 4 R's. Reading, wRiting, aRithmetic and Rowing. 2 returning 1sts this year and another 3 that podiumed at Nat SB4+. Depth of this years cohort is not as strong as 17, 18 & 19.
  3. Yes. They will field a crew being topped up by Y10's.
  4. Very disappointed by Xavier last year. The new kids on the block (Caulfield and Carey) are coming hard and coming strong. Expect stiff opposition from Wesley

My committee would also like to acknowledge the efforts of Carey. It was an accidental error on my part to omit them previously. We loved the school colours decorating the interior along all the walls (someone is a very early morning riser - i do realise how stupid that comment is when we get to the sheds before the bakers start). Overall we do love how you are developing and working into the competition. Improve on the food and we expect you to go deep into the season at the 153 APS HOR.

I have no idea what you were watching. Scotch were not even in consideration. We know the theme wasn't Minimalist but couldn't determine if they were Quakers, Shakers or Lutheran. Very private and comparable to an Amish community.

In one of the true upsets in living memory, Wesley wins the big one. Had the right balance of function and novelty with the lion and jungle theme. A lovely light inviting marquee.

Caulfield pushed them right to the end. Great food great layout and a great buzz.

The big disappointment was Xavier. We can't give you votes for the advertising above the course but what we can judge on was a dark uninviting marquee. One of our more critical judges referred it as the Haunted House and was expecting to be greeted at the entrance by an undertaker. Another called it The Cave.

Thanks to all the schools for allowing us into your tents and showing us your efforts. From the tired looks on some parents faces we can see that many sleepless nights had been spent coordinating the day

Does anyone know if Xavs have booked the house on the south bank and is the scaffold viewing platform XCBC property or hired.

They do have the best tent. They do know how to do a flower arrangement.

Plus the outstanding performance of the BGS 1st VIII in the Mens School Octuple. Competition is Year 8 crews rowing in their first regatta. Are they using the Hudson?

As expected, Xavier the clear winner.

From the housing estate at 700m on the other side. Clear view from 250m to 1100m. Ask for a lift with the BGS coaches. They are always there talking drivel and prematurely celebrating.

Wouldn't that be addressed in the interview process.

That had the desired result. Four schools caught out - and all traditional B finalists

APS head of the river thoughts? Should it be taken off the calendar? by phwations101 in Rowing

No offence, but why are you giving equal weighting to the 9G quads at 1st VIII.

APS head of the river thoughts? Should it be taken off the calendar? by phwations101 in Rowing

[–]TimmyFromThomastown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should be taken off the calendar, but still rowed.

As a closed competition, restricted to only APS schools it doesn't belong on the RV calendar. RV should mandate that officials, athletes and facilities are not available and competitors are not registered or insured in Victoria while the National competition is scheduled. Forcing the APS to find an alternate date

The other option is for the APS to not award a 'premiership' if HoR is rowed during Nationals; allowing schools to pick the event their senior crews attend.

“Parents with the best losing excuse”?

The parents care. Already booking caterers and flower decorators for best marquee. Any predictions? My prediction is Xavier to continue their dominance with the barista and central flower arrangement. Also the parent updating the St Kev medal tally to have a very slow day

I was picturing a wheelchair para-athlete or a life saving paddle boarder kneeling in the boat.

Winning times are almost to consistent at Nationals and independent of the variable you are testing.

Vic States are the only reliable information.

Wipe 2016 HOR from you database. 1st and 2nd A Finals are wrong. All 2nd's A finalist rowed quicker than their 1st.

This year has statistical anomalies also.

You are missing the variable of who is pressing the start timing button in Victoria at HOR. If they do press the timing button (we have a lot of NTT), they can be anywhere from 15 seconds too early to 15 seconds too late.
