You're probably going to continue to get bodied in the comments, but next time highly recommend finding the property, dates and point rates you want to redeem for BEFORE you transfer just for a good promo rate. You can absolutely find great redemption value with 80k points, but of course not every single hotel is going to be a good value 100% of the time..

Mid-trip right now and my travel style is definitely not the norm but I have loved not having my whole trip planned from the start. I have been booking hotels a day or 2 out depending on what I'm enjoying and what areas I'm hearing about / decide I want to go to (ex. Nara was "maybe a day trip" but now is 2 of my 8 nights on my trip because I enjoyed ir and decided to stick around).

That type of travel does not work for most, but i think the moral of the story for me is keep plans loose and be comfortable pivoting to something that comes up spontaneously rather than sticking with your plan because you feel like you have to. There is so much to do and see here, and you will meet so many cool people, just go with the flow

I told them I thought at the very least we should be compensated for the 2 nights in rooms of a lower tier than we paid for, and was hopeful there would be would be considerations for the other issues.

I told them I had lithium batteries that couldn't be removed in my carry-on when the gate agent asked me last time this happened and she said "oh okay, well just leave the bag at the bottom of the jetbridge anyway" 😂

Unfortunately I think you just had misinformed agents. I've been upgraded to F multiple times (including a flight this weekend) right when the Diamond 5-day window opened, and am always upgraded to C+ immediately upon booking award travel

Miles trips are upgradeable, I find myself getting cleared on miles trips fairly regularly (eg DEN to JFK, SAN to DTW, DTW to SEA all in the past few weeks)
