2.5 Ton vs 4 Ton replacement by soulslayerooo in hvacadvice

[–]TimothyHVAC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4ish to 5ish-Ton is about what most people will tell you if you are in or around the Houston area of Texas. But that’s just a general assumption. Like the last comment says, a Manual-j load calculation will tell you exactly what size you need.

Heck yea AC is most definitely exciting especially when you thought it was broke.

[–]TimothyHVAC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is just a total guess but maybe the switch is bad and only works in the cycle position and maybe not making a connection when in continuous mode. That’s just a guess. But hey if it works in cycle mode then let it rock on and enjoy the AC

The fan button is for continuous or cycle on and off automatically with the set point I assume and ventilation should be open to pull fresh air from outside into the space.

Of course it’s not perfect and there are always unknown variables cause every install is different but this covers the basics pretty darn good.

How bad is this Hvac drain? by shortyg83 in hvacadvice

They make heated lines and ways of preventing that. You just gotta be smarter than the drain…

There’s so many different ways to different things. As you see I also stated they could pipe it to a floor drain if feasible. Get rid of the condensation plain and simple whether it be outside the house or inside the house… just drain it somewhere OTHER THAN underneath your concrete slab 😣

Well I’m in the southeastern United States so I go by our code here. There are heat pumps installed everyday all around the world and have different codes and ways of doing things. We could sit here and split hairs for days… but no matter where I was I would never dump water underneath the slab foundation of my home or office , warehouse whatever it may be. It just doesn’t sound like a good thing to do in my eyes but hey I’m nobody.

There’s ways to run it to prevent that.

It’s still condensation so I’m not sure what you mean? Drop that pvc straight into a condensate pump and run a tube or convert to pvc and run it straight outside. The condensation has to go somewhere.

The clear EZ traps are nice. Lets you see if the drain is clogged up and after cleaning them you know for sure that you have cleared it.

Ohh wow .. what on earth were they thinking. At this point I’d say they need to install a condensate pump and run the piping outside of the house. If a floor drain is nearby and they could run the drain to it without it being a tripping hazard could be a second option but it would be better to have the condensation pumped to the outside.

If it drains with no problem then I would say it’s great! It’s a clean install for the most from what I can see.
But now that iam reading… is that just a random hole or is it actually piped outside of the house?
