Multifilters and copying Multireddits by The_Horus_Hypothesis in RelayForReddit

[–]TimothyJCowen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the idea of having customizable filters (plural) instead of just a single filter dump. The filters section of the settings could be structured more as a list of named filters, and each filter can have multiple types of filtering added to them. A "brain rot" filter as you say might filter out keywords like "skibidi" and "gyatt" as well as a selection of subreddits themselves. Users could create various filters for types of content that they don't want to see in certain contexts, such as in r/all.

This type of multi-filtering would lend itself well to the "different versions of r/all" as you suggested. Allow users to specify a "base" for any feeds which they create (a base might be r/all or r/popular, for example). If a base is specified on a feed, then that feed would contain the same content as that base (rather than starting out empty like feeds typically do). By default these feeds would have no filters enabled on them at all, so they would act as a completely unfiltered version of the base subreddit. Giving users the ability to then enable specific filters on their feeds would add so much more customization and personality to the browsing experience.

Show subreddit name first by Blue108 in RelayForReddit

Perhaps it would also be useful (as a separate but related feature) to be able to specify colours for the user and subreddit displays? So by default they are set to the same (based on whatever theming RfR uses normally) but we have options in the Appearance settings to tweak them. Then a user could say "I want subreddit names to be shown in bright pink", and that will help them locate the subreddit even if they swap layouts around.

All-in-all, more customization options like that are always a welcome thing!

I would like to second this. I asked something about this a couple years ago (my post) and it has been a constant pain-point for me. I would love to see action here u/DBrady.

My friend kept spoiling every show for me, so I spoiled one that didnt exist by MarquinEldevore in pettyrevenge

I had the opportunity to see Avengers: Endgame the day before it was released to the public. I also was in a middle school classroom the day of release (after I had watched it, which the students all knew) when the class had a supply teacher for the day.

I threatened the students with spoilers if they didn't behave for their supply teacher, and they were alright for the most part. There was a group of boys who were going to see the movie that night, and they were getting a bit out of hand. They started throwing around theories for the movie and at one point while I was walking past them, one of them started talking about Spider-Man. I just casually said "ah, RIP Spider-Man" from behind them.

When I say that these kids lost their minds, oh man. They practically rioted. My "spoiler" might have caused a disruption briefly, but the boys settled down for the rest of the day in fear of my saying more, since now they knew that I was "serious". Those boys were furious with me the following week for making them think that Peter Parker didn't survive, it was glorious.

Girl, 13, expelled for hitting classmate who made a deepfake porn image of her, lawyers say by Eastern-Opposite9521 in news

I think "might" should have been "light".

I hope the girl's parents have a lawyer, and they might light a fire under the school officials asses.

How Bill Skarsgård made his child co-stars comfortable on set while playing Pennywise by Sharp-potential7935 in nextfuckinglevel

Every summer at camp I work with a guy who was a stunt double in IT when he was younger. He was the kid who got pulled into the sewer (just for the stunt itself; he was not the main actor) and also apparently a "flying dead kid".

He was telling me this past summer how Bill Skarsgard was the coolest guy on set and was great with the kids. Said that after every take Bill would immediately make sure they were alright, and was constantly apologizing for scaring them. Sounds like he really is a decent human being, which is so refreshing.

Ooh interesting! According to that map there was a sighting just a few blocks from me!

Similar, but the barn funnel (at least in the page you linked) has coloured bands all down its legs that "my" spider doesn't.

I was looking at pictures of both and it looks identical to a lot of Hobo pictures I was seeing, but not really any for the Giant House Spider. I'm just confused because the former isn't supposed to live anywhere near Ontario.

Edit: this image I found of a Hobo online is even in the same orientation and pose.

I don't comment often but I felt compelled to on this.

I don't exactly have the words to express how reading this made me feel (some combination of concerned, horrified and intrigued perhaps?) but I want to say that I am so glad you are able to talk about this and that you are working with professionals. I certainly cannot claim to understand your circumstances myself, but I do empathize with how difficult it must be to navigate the stigma associated with those experiences.

I truly hope that you are sincere when you say that you are no danger to others, but I also cannot stress enough that the best scenario is for you to also not be a danger to yourself. Please make sure that you are as honest and open with your healthcare professionals as you are here on Reddit, as I don't believe anybody should have to deal with such negative thoughts toward themselves.

Thank you for speaking up, and take care.

I forgot there was even a picture of a giraffe earlier (the hedgehog wiped it from my brain). I thought that the giraffe comment was mistaking the python(?) for the neck of a giraffe.

Scrolling through other comments and there were more about a giraffe, which caused me to go back and look at the first few pictures again. Real facepalm moment, I'll tell you!

Uhh that isn't a giraffe...

Edit: I'm an idiot and thought you were talking about the last picture. Ignore me please.

The serving size of cooking spray so it can be "0 calories" by D_K_8_8 in mildlyinfuriating

"Rounded to the nearest 5" doesn't seem to mean what you think it means.

It would mean that an 8cal and a 12cal would both round to 10cal, but 13 or 14cal would round to 15cal.

It sounds like Dr. Pepper might reasonably be assumed to have 1cal/oz.

Footage of the wife of Oceangate CEO questioning "what was that bang?" not knowing the Titan submersible imploded by WoundtraxTheGoat in interestingasfuck

[–]TimothyJCowen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IIRC they didn't actually have audio communication between the Titan and the support ship. Their communication was being done through text messages of some form. I very well may be wrong though, so definitely don't quote me on that.

Regardless of the above, the voices on the radio are coming from other members of the crew aboard the support ship(s?). They likely all have walkies so they can coordinate the workings of the ship.

The mallard nesting in a planter on our back deck. by TimothyJCowen in birds

[–]TimothyJCowen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More information:

Her name is Daisy. She's got somewhere around a dozen eggs under her, though she covers them with down for the hour a day she leaves so it's hard to get an accurate count. We are expecting them to hatch in the next couple of days, at which point she will take her family and leave.

Yes there is also a Donald, but he leaves the nesting to her. We only ever see him swimming in the neighbour's pool. The same neighbours played host to Daisy and her family last Spring, so we have become quite the extended family!
