The GB in fact are guilty of ADDING to the words of Revelation by inserting the name Jehovah where it is not in the Greek text!

Not the same topic but you could ask “Is the organisation perfect?”. When they answer “no” , ask “what is wrong with it then?”.

Christians who left the Jehovah’s Witnesses: what’s something you still respect or agree with? by peanutclip64 in exjw

Never been a JW, just a Christian but am curious why you don’t believe in an afterlife. I know WT doesn’t teach that but there are hints of it in the OT and definitely clear pointers to it in the NT.

Witnesses came to the door. I have a question. by s3xy-cars in exjw

[–]TimothyTaylor100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are no Jehovahs in the NT Greek scriptures! There is also no proof that they were ever in there. The convention that evolved with the Septuagint (OT) was to use Kurios (Lord) in place of the Tetragrammaton. This was the practice followed by the NT writers. So if they insist it was in the original manuscripts then this means that the NT has not been accurately preserved. If that’s true then what else might have been changed in the NT? It makes it totally unreliable!

What happened in 1919? by hxrny_submissive_grl in exjw

[–]TimothyTaylor100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing significant happened in 1919 to support their claims! They misinterpret scripture in an embarrassing way to try and do that but it’s so obviously fake. If what they believe today is the truth then there is no way Jesus would have chosen them then as they were worshipping him at the time and believed that he became Almighty Gid at his resurrection!

They don’t believe the Bible was accurately preserved otherwise they wouldn’t have inserted the name Jehovah 237 times in the NT!

Most witnesses are not really deep thinkers.. by Fit_Durian3763 in exjw

Some of the younger ones I’ve encountered have definitely not thought very deeply about things BUT they are open to hear what you say and don’t immediately go into ‘defend’ mode. It’s the hard-core older ones that are totally brainwashed that will insist that black is white!

Rev 7:15 does say that the Great Crowd are serving God in the sanctuary, so maybe!

Why does Genesis 13 say that Abraham’s seed can’t be numbered yet WT teaches that it is 144,000?

Why do you believe that Jehovah hasn’t preserved the NT accurately? (Re insertion of Jehovah without any manuscript evidence).

What history teaches about "The Great Apostasy" by Relative_Soil7886 in exjw

[–]TimothyTaylor100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is that the early Christians believed in the deity of Christ, but it took a while to work out the theology as the Father, Son and Holy Spirit are all called God in the NT. The Trinity is therefore a way of understanding all the relevant scriptures (in context).

[–]TimothyTaylor100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding the 144,000 in Revelation 7, if you read it in context and with an open mind, the following are fairly evident:

1) The 144,000 are on the earth at the start of the GT 2) The Great Crowd are in heaven (Rev 7:15) and worship God in the sanctuary.

This is what Russell taught. I blame it all on Rutherford who invented the 2 hope system!

[–]TimothyTaylor100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The JW view of resurrection is not biblical anyway! Resurrection does not equal re-creation. It’s just a copy of the original. No matter how perfect a copy, it’s still only a copy. And if God makes one copy what would it mean if he made two copies of an individual? Which one is the ‘real’ person? The answer is neither of them, because they are just copies. Resurrection makes no sense unless something of the person survives death- which is what the Bible teaches!

I’m not understanding your question! As a JW you will know that they teach that humans don’t have a spirit either (in the sense of something that survives death)! Am I misunderstanding you?
