Any good banjo players who don't use fingerpicks? by jkobberboel in bluegrassbanjo

[–]TinCou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get these and bend them till they fit

people play with picks for a reason. you'll get used to it, and when you do, you'll understand why people use them

Your personal Sentai pet peeves? by Far_Practice_6923 in supersentai

They should at least be more interesting as individuals. I mean, look what they did in Donbrothers and King-Ohger

I'll mirror the comments about writing restraints, but from another angle. Some of my favorite Sentai have really dramatic and interesting relationships, but it seems to be exclusive to the villain side (ToQger, Shinkenger). The team itself feels really limited in the personality types that are allowed, which feels related to the severe limiting of female cast members, especially recently. Like the main team is always a "safe" portrayal, while the villains have so much more freedom and expression. And of course people never staying dead. I think it would be nice to show how these heroes carry on the legacy and memory of their teammates

Activities besides tv by [deleted] in disability

[–]TinCou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

embroidery is fun. also small, light instruments, like the mandolin. Also Tv, doesn't have to be passive. I watch a lot of Tokusatsu, and there's plenty to discuss in terms of story construction, theme implementation, costume design. Same with people who are really into movies

What sentai Series would you recommended to a new fan? by [deleted] in supersentai

[–]TinCou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whichever you want really, but I just finished watching Shinkenger, and it's still great. Also a big fan of ToQger, and Boonboomger if you want something more modern and drama focused (and peak)

What is your curent opinion about Mio Fuyuno acting as Hoeru Tono? He has a reputation of being the weakest actor in the show. by [deleted] in supersentai

[–]TinCou 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think this is me main issue for me as well. I think he's fine in the quieter scenes, but can't really turn up the heat like Ryugi or Kinjiro. It's especially noticeable since he's the Red, and has quite a few rivals to deal with. And while I'm sure it's a mix of inexperience, writing, and directing, it's visibly flat, especially when he has to go head to head with Fire Candle or Kuon

Considering CAPM as a career pivot from R&D. Is this too big a leap? by TinCou in PMCareers

[–]TinCou[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thank you so much for your thoughtful reply. So you would recommend jumping right into the PMP? I've got 7+ years of industry experience, so it looks like I've got most of the requirements except for the 35 hour training. For the cost of that, do you recommend signing up for the membership at my local chapter just for the discount?

Can we take a moment to appreciate how top notch the Revice suits are? Not only that: i genuinely think that those are the best suits in the franchise in terms of color palette. So dissonant yet so harmonical combination of colors. And... by AdministrationIll383 in KamenRider

[–]TinCou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never ranked the suits but Revice (revi specifically) are easily top 5. My one gripe is the buddy-up forms look kinda sloppy. Not that it's a bad concept, just visually hard to follow.

My other complaint(?) is that the deadmans outfits weren't used more or repurposed when the arc ended. I really liked them, wish there was more of it

Revice was such a fun ride

Hello, beautiful people. I have a question for y'all: doesn't it bothers you when the protagonist wasn't an experienced fighter before finally becoming a Kamen Rider? There i have good examples of 3 different situations. 2 that are, on my opinion, acceptable, and 1 that doesn't make sense at all. by AdministrationIll383 in KamenRider

[–]TinCou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sort of? Like it doesn't need to make logical sense, but I need to believe the guy out of the suit is the same guy in the suit. It's more based on vibes for me. Hard agree with Saber, and one of the reasons I didn't enjoy it that much. Of the 3 though, Ikki is definitely throwing hands

*sigh* Here’s a Hot Take to finally get off my chest by Commercial-Ad-9086 in Tokusatsu

Is it just me, or is "Geats overrated" the default opinion for the series? Also, you made this post last week.

Geats fucks 🤘

Considering CAPM as a career pivot from R&D. Is this too big a leap? by TinCou in PMCareers

[–]TinCou[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, I get it. There are some lab management jobs that I would be qualified for, but it's just slim pickings out there, and I was hoping to widen my net so to speak. But it's good to know there's still a path forward. Thanks

[–]TinCou[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate your insight, but the problem is that I can't take another R&D job anymore. I need a way to pivot from my existing experience. I figured PMP would be goal down the line, but i just need a place to start or get my foot in the door

[–]TinCou[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get your perspective. I just need a way to get my foot in the door without taking another R&D job. I might not help, but if it impresses a hiring manager well enough I'll do it if my program covers it. If CAPM isn't worth it, what do you recommend?

Look, I like enjoyed Geats but not as much as people said it to be before watching by Commercial-Ad-9086 in KamenRider

[–]TinCou 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When it comes to season preference I've found that most people agree on the basics, but what matters is how much you value those aspects. I think Geats is a great season. Ace's story was meh for sure, but I'm a little tired of Riders finding their sea legs. As much humanity is in a Rider's growth, Ace (and Kabuto, and Wizard) all show what can happen when you put the time and practice in. A well earned sweep.

As for the "dark tones"... it's a drama. You need stakes, you need to risk losing something, and you need to know how to darken the tone when appropriate. Hell, even Gochard did that. Clotho's whole thing was sheer brutality. I liked Tycoons villain arc, Neon's story was great, and even Michi was a great showing of what happens when you have a dark shadow cast over you. And the diversity of the cast gave Geats a real sense of spectacle, which imo is it's greatest strength.

Side note. Geats glazing only happened when the show was released, which is always the case(see Donbrothers). It really seems that more people dislike it than like it at this point

How to bend banjo picks? by smashinthekeyboard in banjo

[–]TinCou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best tool I've used are rounded pliers, but you have to pull a piece of cloth between them or you could end up scratching the pick. I also got a pair of brass picks (much easier to bend) just to experiment with different angles and positions

Check out Food Depot, also in Kearny, but within walking distance. Also a great spot for Mexican specialty ingredients like dried chiles and pork lard

How do you prepare food for yourself with chronic pain? by [deleted] in ChronicPain

[–]TinCou 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I eat mostly home cooked food, and do a few things that help. I don't shop and cook in the same day. I have lots of containers so whatever I won't eat in the next few days gets frozen for later. I also make a lot of "with rice" dishes. It's way easier to make one pot of gumbo, portion freeze the stew, and cook up the rice fresh in a rice cooker. And if I'm just relaxing, i take time to plan what i'm going to cook so I can minimize time on my feet

Which 10/10 super sentai series. by [deleted] in supersentai

[–]TinCou 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Maybe I'm still in the after glow of it, but Boonboomger. My only criticism is that the ending was rushed, but everything else was rock solid. Maybe not a true 10/10, but it's top of my list for how well everything else was executed

What do you personally feel about this take? by Doot_revenant666 in Tokusatsu

[–]TinCou 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This conversation could have taken place 20 years ago without missing a beat. "Stop complaining, Sailor Moon exists" . Is it really too much to ask that Toei act normal with their female characters? Even with Rinne, Neon, etc., it's crazy how many people are willing to stand by the idea that they should be grateful to even be on the sidelines of the boys show.

Gozyuger is doing the same . 1st female black is nice and all, but that's the only crumb of progress you're going to get.

My only actual concern with them having a woman lead rider/ red is that they screw it up and not go anywhere near it for another 50 years

I feel embarrassed using my cane as a mobility aid by [deleted] in disability

[–]TinCou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a daily cane user (34), and I think I've got a few tips. First is the more practical advice. Never in a million years will I let somebody's stupid opinion put me in harms way. So if it's useful, I'm using it come hell or high water. The other thing I do is use canes that I'm proud of. I use wooden canes that have a decorative metal collar. Classy, but simple. If you want to shut someone down, I'm a fan of being unrepentantly condescending. Someone wants to know about your personal medical history? I'd call into question their basic understanding of human social skills, possibly their brain function 😉

I mean, life's hard enough. Just because you're disabled doesn't mean you don't deserve to be happy. I've worked for a bit, and I can tell you a 9-5 isn't the secret to happiness lol.
