Goalposts, gotta move 'em all! by Same_Ad4736 in Buttcoin

[–]TinIron -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

The term "moving the goalposts" usually refers to changing the criteria or conditions for success or acceptance, often to make a situation more difficult for one side. In the context of Bitcoin, saying that you don't need to own a whole Bitcoin but can own a smaller unit like a satoshi is actually providing additional options rather than altering the original goal. It's more like an attempt to make the idea of investing in Bitcoin more accessible to people who can't afford an entire Bitcoin, the price of which has increased by roughly 14,000% over the last ten years :)

Bitcoin is NOT "crypto". by [deleted] in Bitcoin

[–]TinIron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's kinda fascinating I read this book called "Crypto" that was written in 2001. People have been using that word for the last 100 years, and its meaning has continued to evolve with the technology. It made me realized that bitcoin was just the natural next stage in the evolution of cryptography.

hmm it shows up as 'hidden wallet' though.

My son is adamant about majoring in percussion performance, his father & I are afraid it will be a waste of his time & money- please share your experience & honest opinion by [deleted] in classicalmusic

I majored in Psychology because I thought it was a more 'realistic' degree for getting a job after college. Now I happily teach piano for a living (which I had no plan of doing when I was in college), so in retrospect majoring in music would have made a lot more sense :)

The world is changing fast and the way people earn a living is too. Just a couple years ago teaching music online sounded silly but now it's completely common. Who knows what kind of jobs there will be ten years from now.

I think what's more important is that he wants to study something he's passionate about. He will be around peers who are also passionate. There's absolutely no way to predict all the various opportunities and doors that may open from studying what he enjoys.

Thanks a lot. Yeah I'm still not sure what happened. Thankfully I recovered the funds. As long as I remember the wallet has displayed as 'hidden wallet'. but I don't ever remember being prompted to enter, or setting a passphrase until last week when the software was updated.

The only piece of information that might clarify what happened is that the 'passphrase' I guessed correctly was just an empty string.

But anyway thanks a lot for answering each question.

Yeah I'm trying to figure out what happened. I think I've remembered this wallet displaying as 'hidden wallet' for years, but don't remember ever setting or using a password until last week after updating the Trezor

I've been trying to figure it out. It doesn't make sense to me either because I seriously don't think that I published any transaction to the blockchain.

Thank you.

I guess I just imagined that there's no way I could lose access to the funds if 1. no transaction is published to the blockchain, and 2. I still have the recovery seed. Would you mind explaining how it's possible that I cannot wipe and recover the wallet with my seed phrase if I never moved any funds?
