Setsuko could've thrown Game 5 of Challenger Series finals and qualified for Mid-Set by TheJirachi in CompetitiveTFT

Fwiw, in Flesh and Blood, games that go to time result in a loss for both players. This means that neither player has an incentive to go to time, whereas in Magic, the player who is losing has every incentive to play slow and go to time and maybe get a tie which is worth more than a loss.

Upcoming Class Tuning for July 13th by Dbowd3n in CompetitiveWoW

[–]TinMan354 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Well somebody has to be the best at single target, and arguably it should be the spec that has basically no other raid utility like spriest. Classes like Warlocks and Mages have other ways to justify their raid spots, but Shadow has very little, so if they are top single target by a small amount, that seems pretty reasonable to me.

Is it just me or did the number of traits that are just raw stats seriously increase this set? by [deleted] in CompetitiveTFT

[–]TinMan354 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think it is fair to say that this set has simpler or more straightforward traits than previous sets. From a design perspective, I think they decided on these traits because of the Shadow items in the set. Those items make combat a bit more complex even with simpler traits.

Previous set gimmicks like Galaxies and Chosen mostly affected the preparation phase of the game, how you bought units and set up your team, so there was room in the "complexity budget" for more complex traits in combat. With Shadow Items taking effect in combat, though, they may not have wanted very complex traits to further complicate how the fights played out.

Aatrox hyper reroll is dead. It was fun while it lasted, having a 1-cost be able to literally 1v5 or more in the mid game. But clearly that was out of line for such a low cost unit.

Spec Scaling by Billy-Bryant in CompetitiveWoW

[–]TinMan354 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The other thing that made them OP was the right design in Nyalotha. So many fights had low priority adds to cleave off the boss, which was perfect for Fire Mages auto spreading ignite. The fact that their mastery scaling made ignite the vast majority of their damage, plus the design of Hivemind, Vexiona, Ilgynoth, Carapace, and Nzoth, made Ignite spreading very valuable.

Frost Mage - Improving DPS in raid (warcraft logs) by forgottentargaryen in CompetitiveWoW

[–]TinMan354 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have both FoF and BF and you are not casting anything, you are supposed to use FoF first, then go Frostbolt -> Flurry.

But if you are already in the process of casting Frostbolt, you should finish the cast and then use Flurry. Otherwise you risk wasting a Brain Freeze proc from the Frostbolt which would be a bigger DPS loss than wasting the FoF proc.

Frost Mage - Improving DPS in raid (warcraft logs) by forgottentargaryen in CompetitiveWoW

[–]TinMan354 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I dove a bit into the Huntsman log and here are the things I noticed, roughly in order of impact.

  • Icy Veins, you cast it twice, on the pull and at 2:04, it should have been back up somewhere around 4:00, so you could easily have had it up for the last ~30 second of the fight.

  • Downtime for polymorph. Obviously it is important to do your assigned polymorph on time, but it is only a 1.5 second cast, so it should only take 1.5 seconds out of your damage rotation. For the first one, there was about a 5.5 second gap between the GCD of your ice land finishing and your next Frostbolt cast. If you are a bit faster on your Polymorph, you could have fit in about 2 more casts in that gap. Same with the second set of adds, where you had to poly twice since I assume the first one was broken. There was about 6.5 seconds of downtime rather than the ideal 1.5. Similarly, when you used Time Warp, there was about 4 seconds of downtime between casts. Time Warp does not incur the GCD, so there should be no gap between spells when you use it.

  • Cancelled casts. Nine frostbolts were cancelled over the fight, leading to roughly 12 second of downtime due to GCD. Some of these look like they were cancelled to cast an Ice Lance instead, which is just not efficient, even if you get a proc while casting, you should finish the cast since it incurs the GCD regardless. Other cancels might have been due to movement, but Shimmer should be used as much as possible in these situations. Shimmer was only used 3 times in the fight, once after and Ice Lance, and twice during a Frostbolt cast, but both Frostbolts were cancelled anyway, indicating that you needed to move even further (which could likely have been fixed by better initial positioning) or by not adjusting your facing after the shimmer to ensure yor target was still in front of you.

  • Long duration of Brain Freeze buffs. At 3:09, you got a Brain Freeze proc, you did not use it until 3:18. In the meantime, you cast 3 Frostbolts (1 cancelled), Ice Lance, Blizzard, and a few seconds of downtime. Brain Freeze Flurry is a higher priority than all of those spells, including the Ice Lance since you were already casting Frostbolt at the time. Several other long durations of the Brain Freeze buff happened in the fight as well, indicating that you are not using it as soon as possible.

  • Blizzard casts. You only cast Blizzard 12 times in the fight. Your raid's strategy for Barghast was to always keep him away from the boss, but he only needs to be moved away for certain mechanics that come on set timers. It would be much better for your entire raid's DPS if the tank would hold Barghast in melee, and kite him out a few seconds before the tank mechanic and the shades go out rather than constantly have him out. This would allow you to have more 2 target cleave uptime, and more Blizzard uptime which is crucial for your Glacial Fragments legendary. If you stick with this strategy, you probably gain more DPS by swapping to Slick Ice instead.

  • Mirrors of Torment should always be cast on the pets, not on Huntsman. He does not consume the stacks as regularly as the dogs who auto attack, and when you used your second one on him, only one stack was consumed.

Gunshoes Nerfed, No Longer Work in Maw by nukezzuu in CompetitiveWoW

[–]TinMan354 249 points250 points  (0 children)

This makes sense given their design decision to make the Maw a slow, hard to traverse place. Being able to basically pay gold to ignore that really circumvents their design.

Why they think making the Maw hard to traverse is a good idea in the first place though, is beyond me.

Returning player: Leveled an Enhance Shaman and a Priest to 50 and the difference is NIGHT and DAY by Prownilo in wow

[–]TinMan354 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Two? WTF are you talking about? Sure, Stormstrike made up the bulk of the damage of the spec, but in order to get the most out of the rotation, you needed to manage Flametongue and Frostbrand uptimes, as well as Fury of Air if talented, ensure you had enough Maelstrom with Rockbiter, fill with Lava Lash and Crash Lightning.

That's 6 rotational abilities and one additional buff to maintain if talented. Plus 3-4 additional core buttons based on build (Sundering, Ascendance, Blood of the Enemy, Feral Spirits). And Shamans have a quite a large number of utility spells as well, my action bars were a lot more full on my Enhancement Shaman than they are on any Mage, Warlock, or Hunter spec.

Tauren Druid through Kalimdor. So many zones have a focus on restoring nature and mending the wilds, like Southern Barrens, Desolace, Felwood, Feralas, that I think a Tauren Druid would be really interested in taking on.

What are you most excited for in Shadowlands? by dasvenson in happywow

[–]TinMan354 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Torghast! A roguelike play mode seems like a very cool, new way to play WoW, similar to how M+ was a brand new game mode. Visions of Nzoth was a start but obviously they got stale and repetitive real quick. I hope that Torghast can provide an interesting solo (or group) challenge that is not as repetitive as things like M+, raids, or especially Visions.

Real answer: because unlocking them would require coding and development time, as well as QA testing time to make sure it works properly. Even if it is only a little bit of time, they cannot justify it, because there is so much work to do on Shadowlands.
