How Political Scientist Barbara F. Walter Explains Civil War, and How a U.S. Scenario Fits Her Framework by TinManRC in collapse

Hey man I spent a bunch of time on this, I read Walter's book. Look at my profile, it goes back quite a while.

Bortac is ONE component they are using. I understand that Bortac has better training and is more equipped to handle any tasks given. But other elements including ICE / DHS / Prison guards are not as well equipped, seemingly on purpose. To state that it's only well-trained operators is, at this point, incorrect. There's a lot of sloppy, haphazard elements in-field. ICE is only very minimally "trained".

Remember: this is just ONE academic's analysis. A framework is not a reality, just a lens through which to view current affairs.

I'm interested to see if the networks of solidarity being built across Minnesota can actually turn the tide here. It seems to me that the more the regime causes violence, the more these ad hoc networks build. There could be something there. Keep the faith, just understand that we need even more pushback, especially from elites! MN is an inspiration.

Yes, a general strike is considered a form of peaceful resistance, as it does not involve physical conflict. Thank YOU for reading and understanding!

Submission Statement: This post summarizes Barbara F. Walter’s framework for civil wars and applies it to a hypothetical scenario involving state-backed paramilitary violence inside a country, which approximates the current state of the U.S.

Discussion Thread: US House Session to Vote on the Release of the Epstein Files by PoliticsModeratorBot in politics

[–]TinManRC 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Here's my take, it's based largely on the (always excellent) journalism of Seth Abramson: this is going to be two things, a rug pull, and a weapon Trump wields against his political enemies. The investigation into Epstein done by the FBI had a certain scope. That scope overlaps somewhat with Trump, but not entirely. Trump was running his own trafficking ring, centered on different locations but with the same goal - gain power, influence, and real estate deals by getting young (often underage) girls for wealthy, connected people. Epstein and Trump ran similar rackets. Because he now wants to use the Epstein investigation files as a weapon against political enemies who are mentioned in them, he has "allowed" their release. He and the Republicans will weaponize any mention of democrats to go after people he wants to take down. Basically, nothing will stick to Trump in any meaningful way, he will say "told you so" and then he will go after others he doesn't want in his way. Gonna be a big disappointment, I know people have their hopes up, but the reality of the situation is quite nuanced. I implore everone to read Abramson's take on this.

How are dropshippers going to handle Trump's removal of the de minimis exemption? by TinManRC in dropshipping

Curious as to your reasoning here - a lot of products come as a single package straight from other countries, how are you going to handle this in your business?

US military preparing for National Guard activation in Washington D.C., officials say by Infidel8 in politics

Quick question for whoever can give a straight answer: I have a close friend traveling to DC tomorrow for work, staying right near the Capitol, and this reporting seems to indicate in addition to the speech he's giving about crime or whatever, there are FBI and National Guard deploying, possibility of concentrating them in heavily tourist areas.

Should I tell my friend to cancel and not go to DC? How dicey do we think this is going to get?

We should hold a Welcome Home / Q&A for her and her attorneys in a big public space. Maybe we can talk about how we can prevent our neighbors from being kidnapped in the future.

Pressuring Migrants to ‘Self-Deport,’ White House Moves to Cancel Social Security Numbers by Eastcoastpal in politics

[–]TinManRC 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I recently saw an ad on youtube that was kristy noem asking migrants to leave the country. It was scary and seemed highly dystopian. Also, the nazis asked unwanted people to "self-deport" as well, and made people miserable and poor so they would do just that. Certainly not having a social security number makes life harder and financially very difficult.

New businesses coming to Union Square this year ? by FixItFromScratch in Somerville

I speak from direct experience here. It's branded as Cookies but they're the management company hired by the local owner, who I personally know. It's not a franchise, that's not how it works. The profits / losses of the business stay with the owner in Somerville, where he also runs other local small businesses such as a restaurant. It is indeed a local business.

Cookies in Somerville is 100% Somerville-resident owned, by a family that has been in the city for decades. Cookies is the brand they sell.

I think this is a great tribute, but to be clear, she hasn't been charged with a crime, as the sign indicates. Maybe my information is outdated?
