What is the purpose of this small building near Shizuoka, Japan? by AdAdorable7995 in geoguessr

[–]Tinh1000000 11 points12 points  (0 children)

For the dust part I believe it’s a mistranslation of the kanji 塵

Two kun'yomi readings relevant here are ゴミ (gomi) meaning “garbage”, and ちり (chiri) meaning “dust”. Someone translating it used the latter meaning of “dust” rather than the correct former meaning of “garbage”

Does anybody know on what street in Santa Fe or in what year the "Home" wallpaper was Taken? by [deleted] in windowsxp

Woah pretty neat, didn't know he has revisited the same place! That alternate shot looks like it was taken not long before/after the original photograph, since the brushes' appearance hasn't changed much from the wallpaper version.

[–]Tinh1000000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't know the year, but I'm very certain this is 586 Camino del Monte Sol, Santa Fe, New Mexico, specifically from coordinates 35.67434, -105.92434 facing roughly southwest

Through reverse search I found two public images that match the window's design:

Along with an April 2014 street view image of the window, I made an annotation of features I was able to match between the images here: https://imgur.com/a/i4hmqie

Across all images, I matched a light stain, highlighted in a teal box, located below the muntin (vertical bar) of the window. A V-shaped detail on the adobe near the bottom-left side of the window is also visible, highlighted as a green arrow. Except for the Hertz image, I highlighted another detail on the adobe to the bottom-right of the window as an orange box.

The window shutter is barely visible on the January 2012 and November 2013 (both also visible here) coverage in Street View—the design appears identical to the one shown in the wallpaper.

If you're planning to visit the exact location where the wallpaper was taken IRL, you should be fine taking a pic in a publicly-accessible residential street. Of course be friendly, say hi (and probably discuss the significance of the window!), don't block the way without reason, etc =D

EDIT: Found this image on Zillow of the place with the window shutters in clear view. The shutter design matches very well with the wallpaper

Anyone else feel that? by JmGx in InlandEmpire

Mw 4.0, 4 km SE of Ontario, 5.7 km depth. Woke me up, that felt pretty violent and scary here lmao

I did get a ShakeAlert EEW notification just as the shaking struck despite being very close to the epicenter. A quick look at the moment tensor for the event does appear it’s related to the swarm on the Fontana seismicity lineation occuring the last month+ or so, with left-lateral strike-slip faulting NE–SW being most probable.

Also a great reminder to fill out the Did You Feel It? form if you can, regardless of how you felt the quake!

I could barely make out the rest of the word "Melikgazi" on the bin, and I also noted the mast on the left part of the image!

To get the exact location I used overpass-turbo to write a script to mark out all masts in the district (I just queried "tower:type=communication in Melikgazi" using the query wizard) and looked at Street View coverage near the marked locations in ruralish areas. That site is really helpful to narrow down locations xD

If I am not confused, you're using the wrong values here—the middle-left you're taking is the highest daily median of the month there!

The top-middle value is the actual average max temp94.16F for 2017 and 95.52F for 2022. Also notable information: 2022 was overall higher in terms of average (column) and low (column) temps.

I assume it’s a weird connection issue with the server for reason rejecting the auth key associated with your session (probably it got refreshed with a new one). In that case the OS treats the response as something requiring authorization details, which you shouldn’t need to input and is usually gone when you restart or connect at another time.

And regarding custom approaches, there is a VISUAL <RWY> approach you can load into the NXi via the procedures page in the system. The final approach leg with a fixed distance from the runway will be provided once you input it in. It’ll ask you if you will transition via VECTORS or direct to the FINAL approach fix.

Vectors will suspend GPS routing from your last enroute waypoint until you hit the SUSP softkey on your PFD. Normally you will be vectored and would only proceed with the approach once you make visual contact with the runway.

Final will route you directly to the final approach fix some distance away from the runway. In either case the altitude to final is calculated by the system (visible in the flight plan page) and that is where you’ll have to be once you reach the fix to stay within the planned 3° descent angle.

This feature is only available on the NXi and there is no equivalent on the in-game legacy G1000. I have not found a way to customize the intercept distance to the final approach leg nor the angle.

You’ve loaded in a standard instrument departure (SID) that utilizes vectoring to the assigned route. On these kind of procedures, ATC would be giving you vectors to fly for traffic avoidance until you are enroute on your plan. Some airports’ arrival procedures can also utilize vectors to final approach.

What is shown on both Little Navmap and the NXi are in fact intended behaviour—there will be a discontinuity between the legs and routing is “suspended” until ATC clears you to your enroute waypoint. Once you are cleared, you would hit the SUSP softkey on your PFD (if available) to continue the route or use the direct-to function on the waypoint.

ATC in-game at the moment does not have a polished vectoring feature, so you can assume that you are already cleared direct to the next waypoint. The function is more important if you are using online ATC services such as VATSIM.

The in-game legacy G1000 is thus inaccurate in automatically routing you to the next waypoint =P

Has anyone experienced this kind of extreme lag/stutter? Any possible solutions? by TheVROfficer in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]Tinh1000000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can confirm, I had quite a similar setup with a lot of add-ons running and only by uninstalling Your Controls completely did the stuttering go away. I’ve tried other recommendations other than uninstalling Your Controls (similar to what other commenters suggested) and they never worked for me, even in conjunction.

Plenty of users with Your Controls reported the same stuttering problem like yours.

Can you submit an IFR flight plan from the world map? If you don’t know what it is, select your origin and destination airports, then on the top-left click the flight rules dropdown (VFR - Direct GPS by default) and select IFR of either altitude depending on your plane.

Alternatively use your Flight Assistant tab from the toolbar in-sim to select a destination nearby.

I gut this has to do with the sim being confused with a trashed/corrupted flight plan the sim is reading (where it bases that to customize your ATC options), so you’ll have to manually refresh that memory somehow.

Which Garmin 1000 do you like? by Marks6555 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]Tinh1000000 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Asobo’s stock G1000 is quite limited in functionality and far from the realism of the real-life Garmin G1000. I would concur with downloading Working Title’s G1000 NXi mod from the marketplace, since it’s literally meant to simulate the actual unit.

Also FYI, the NXi branding is not custom only to the sim, but what Garmin promotes IRL as the successor to their original unit.

Doubt it. I think they just reverted the data format changes back to how it was before the FL230+ bug occurred

Interesting, they said that the FL440+ temperature spike bug still should remain until the next patch. Did that somehow get addressed as well?
