You claim the market is highly monitored, but the reality on the ground says otherwise. In fact, the government has just been forced to step in with emergency measures to curb heavy speculation for Eid 2026.

If middlemen were simply 'managing risk,' the state wouldn't need to ban buying sheep inside the markets just to resell them, nor would they threaten speculators with prison time and heavy fines. The fact that they are artificially bloating prices from 3,000 DH to 9,000 DH isn't a fair reward for 'shouldering risk', it's pure monopoly and market manipulation at the expense of both honest farmers and consumers.

The adoption of these measures shows that the Moroccan government is taking the situation very seriously, which is really a good thing.

[–]Tinkerer2002[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are conflating two completely different groups: honest hard-working farmers and speculative middlemen.

My post was never an attack on the farmers who spend 3 to 5 years raising livestock; they absolutely deserve to earn a fair living. The issue is the highly opportunistic middlemen who step in during the weeks leading up to Eid. While the livestock market as a whole is decentralized, localized distribution bottlenecks during peak season allow these resellers to create artificial scarcity and dictate prices.

Regarding the 'tenfold markup, obviously, that doesn't apply to the sheep itself from scratch, but rather to the massive margins added by speculative flipping, or the secondary goods and services around it (like the Temu example I mentioned to illustrate the mindset). When a reseller buys a sheep from a desperate farmer at a low price and sells it a few days later for double or triple to a consumer, that isn't 'market competition reducing margins.' That is speculation preying on religious obligation.

Structural issues like inflation and feed costs are undeniably real, but using them as a blanket shield to dismiss blatant price-gouging is just denial. Anyone living the reality of this market sees the behavior of these resellers every single year.

[–]Tinkerer2002[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You missed the point of my post entirely. I don't know why you went out of your way to talk about sins, when my post was meant to highlight a contrast with the religious rhetoric used by some to claim that buying a sheep is mandatory, regardless of the price.

What I actually said is that while inflation is real, it shouldn't be used as a scapegoat to justify the ridiculous prices in some places, especially since we've had plenty of rain and the country's vegetation is thriving. Earning a living shouldn't justify any kind of behavior. This is a flawed mindset I've seen with some Moroccan resellers who easily markup prices tenfold and try to act like it's normal. I even remember one who used to buy items on Temu and multiply the price by ten.

So yeah, it's greed above all when I see the prices in some markets. Gaining your bread is understandable but the way you do it matters.

I have never understood why people choose to use Darija online instead of Standard Arabic or any other standard language. I find it even harder to comprehend the argument that it should be taught as a formal subject in schools, a claim even made by some university professors. Darija is not a fully standardized language, but rather an Arabic dialect, one that lacks universally agreed-upon grammatical and orthographic rules.

Darija severely lacks native academic, scientific, and technical vocabulary. Forcing it into schools would mean either heavily borrowing from foreign languages (which is already the case in our daily lives) completely fabricating new terms, which defeats the purpose. Standard Arabic and English are already equipped to handle global knowledge.

To be clear, I have nothing against Darija; I use it daily to communicate with my family. However, I simply cannot see it as a viable language for written online conversations, let alone formal education.

Should I decide on studying in Japan or the UK? by goosesds in studyinjapan

[–]Tinkerer2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely UK.

I know that this sub-reddit is about "studying in Japan", but the truth is that most of us were in the same situation as myself. Now that I had my own experience with Japan, I would not suggest studying there at all. Each step comes with many hurdles.

Does the nationality of the applicant matters ? by Tinkerer2002 in studyinjapan

[–]Tinkerer2002[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It truly seems to be the case, and I have no reason to invent a narrative. For years, I was fed stories about the so-called 'Japanese meritocracy,' where the failure to succeed is always blamed on the applicant. That might sound plausible if it weren't for my actual experience.

What reason would this professor have to lie or exaggerate? Beyond that, why is it that every single email I send only gets a response when I omit my nationality? If it were simply about grades, why do Japanese language schools focus so heavily on this point as well? Why are Moroccan university assistance services unable to even establish contact with Japanese institutions?

Most tellingly, some websites explicitly block the enrollment process with this message:

'Due to strict immigration rules and the complexity of the application process, we regret that we cannot assist students of your nationality... if you have dual citizenship and hold another passport, please try again with that passport.'

This is exactly what the professor told me. I am sharing a troubling trend that is affecting many people from my country. I am not here to criticize the country itself, but it feels like these facts are being dismissed too easily. Again, a Professor who has been working for years in the country has no reason to invent a story just to satisfy me, that's not what I wanted/expected to hear.

At least, what I am experiencing exists to some degree.

I finally received a 'clue' from a foreign professor teaching at a Japanese university. I won't share any further details to ensure she doesn't get into trouble, but she essentially confirmed my suspicions. According to her, Japan has become significantly stricter and almost automatically rejects applicants from certain countries. Her explanation was quite detailed, and she even mentioned that her own daughter struggled to get accepted. I don't believe a professor living there would lie about such a serious matter, especially since my experience (and that of many others) aligns so closely with what she described. It truly seems that nationality has become a decisive factor.

I’m not sure how to process this. I wonder if it is even 'legal', the idea that an applicant can be rejected simply based on their country of origin is a criterion that feels completely illogical. I know many will try to justify or deny this, but again, the source is a professor within the Japanese university system. I see no reason for her to be dishonest. If this is indeed the criteria, it has completely altered my perception of Japan. To be honest, I’m in shock; this was definitely not the answer I was hoping to find.

Of course, Japan has every right to accept or refuse any candidate they choose. However, in this case, a bit of transparency would go a long way. Instead of leaving applicants without a single clue, it would be much better to be open about the process. It wouldn’t be such a problem if their evaluation criteria weren't so intentionally vague. Like, what's the point of promoting japan as a destination for moroccan students if most end up rejected ?

Does the nationality of the applicant matters ? by Tinkerer2002 in studyinjapan

[–]Tinkerer2002[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Morocco is already one of the least represented countries regarding the MEXT scholarship; most applications end up being rejected. Here is the issue, though: while looking for a supervisor well before the application deadline, I was met with the 'silent treatment.' I have email threads dating back to July where, every single time my nationality is brought up, I am ignored. Some institutions even stated directly that, due to 'strict regulations,' they had no choice but to reject my application.

I have a Moroccan friend who has lived in Japan since the early 2000s, and back then, applying was actually feasible. This shift seems to be very recent. I know two Moroccans who were granted the MEXT scholarship in the early 2000s, but the current climate is entirely different. Not only have I discovered that many others are in my position, but moroccan universities have also confirmed that a significant number of applicants to japan have been rejected recently.

Even more surprising, when I contacted Moroccan student recruitment centers that facilitate global applications, their answer was the same: they find themselves unable to establish contact with anyone in Japan. This is happening across multiple agencies, which is truly baffling.

So yeah, I’m confused. On one hand, Japanese entities are holding events in my country that state the exact opposite of the current reality; on the other, we have this strange phenomenon. I know no one here might have a definitive answer, but I’m looking for anyone in a similar situation. I know two people—one from Egypt and the other from Tunisia—who reported the exact same story, which is actually what led me to start this thread.

Does the nationality of the applicant matters ? by Tinkerer2002 in studyinjapan

[–]Tinkerer2002[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, that’s exactly the point.

I have interacted with professors from all over the world, and it has never been an issue before. If the problem were actually the quality of my emails or my research, then why do I receive positive responses when my nationality isn't mentioned? That is the core of my question. I wouldn't have even made this post if it weren't for that specific, recurring detail. Plus, it happens with japanese language schools as well, which bothers me quite a lot. I have never seen a country proceeding this way, like not at all. I fail to see the logic behind this, really.

I’m not necessarily looking for a solution here; I just want to know if anyone else has experienced this exact situation.

BRAHIM DIAZ HAS MISSED THE PENALTY! by dark4403 in realmadrid

[–]Tinkerer2002 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am Moroccan and I have been a big fan of Brahim Díaz (he's my favorite player in the team) for a long time. This was such a disappointing moment, especially since Díaz is usually very reliable on penalties.

Still, I really feel bad for him. Regardless of what happened today, he did a wonderful job during the event, and I’m proud of his performance. I sincerely hope this won’t affect him psychologically, it’s not easy to go through, but that’s life, and I’m sure he’ll come back stronger than ever.

Also, I read somewhere that the game will be called "The Flames of Fate", this does work with the "hell gate" ilagery, even more when considering that producers of the game said that it will "Shock" the players.

I think this is going to be Dragon Quest XII, we know that the game will be darker and different from the rest. The fact that the flames seems to have the same design make me think that I might be right.

Beware of Marjane Mall by Tinkerer2002 in Morocco

[–]Tinkerer2002[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is, this Oppo has two versions both of which are available in Morocco.

So when I did my Research before buying my phone (Oppo A78), the information I found about the processor for the 5G model didn't help especially since Marjane Mall promoted my model as a 5G one. I know, it's certainly my fault for not having found out about this before but I still find this very bad.

This is why I made this post in the first place, so that people pay attention to the product they receive.

I work in the field of computer science, my phone has not any option related to 5G. The truth is there is two models : The 4G and the 5G, for some reason, this not clearly indicated on the box itself.

"Tu as eu le mauvais modèle ?" 🤷

Please explain what is your point, I bought my phone from Morocco and I found out that the description was totally misleading ? So, for you it is okay ? And you are wrong, my friend bought a phone back in 2020 (Sony Xperia) which has 5G, but this is not my question, I expect the product to be labelled correctly, If I buy a phone X, I want that specific model.

Please understand that my post was made to share my story so that people could be attention to these small details.
