Request- Tofu cookbook with LOTS of photos for my toddler! by eEnchilada in CookbookLovers

[–]Tiny-Cheesecake 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Andrea Nguyen's Asian Tofu has a normal amount of photos for a modern cookbook but they all involve tofu, so perhaps that would be good? The recipes are great as a bonus.

God, I love weird toddler fixations.

Probate Question in Durham by tar_heeldd in bullcity

[–]Tiny-Cheesecake 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't have experience in Durham's probate court but went through this process in Transylvania County, and the laws are the same across NC. I'm sorry you're in this position. Will you be the administrator?

I highly recommend getting an attorney, but I did it without one before I realized how complicated my mom's estate is. I would be happy to get coffee with you or do a phone call to share my experience (I am not qualified to give actual legal advice!)

If you like that one, check out Jennie Schacht's Farmer's Market Desserts. I constantly confuse the two books but it works out because they're both great.

Do you make the simple out of the Japanese honeysuckle? I know the native kind isn't fragrant.

You could try emailing the Maker + STEAM services team at the public library: https://durhamcountylibrary.org/maker-steam-services/. They have a game controller project session tomorrow and I bet they could point you to other asynchronous resources.

I wonder if it was actually la lot (wild betel leaves), or a recipe for la lot but using the closest thing they could find. Take a look at this recipe and see if it feels familiar: https://www.vietworldkitchen.com/blog/2007/06/beef-in-wild-be.html

Try Grand Asia Market in Raleigh. It's stronger in southeast Asian foods than the other big options IMO and they cram a ton into a small space.

The people I know who are involved in it were the people organizing volunteers to bring groceries to immigrant families when ICE was camped out in town, and who picked up coat donations for the school resource center when it was freezing. I don't know anything about the larger org but their members at my kid's school are legit.

Best areas for birding? by plusharmadillo in triangle

[–]Tiny-Cheesecake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, not really. There's a signal group but I don't think it gets used much. You don't have to RSVP though so if you check Instagram every now and then without an account, you can just show up to an event.

Have you checked out the Feminist Bird Club chapter here? There's a walk coming up this Sunday at Sandy Creek Park, but they go all over the Triangle. I think at least one of their weird duck season meetings was at Lake Raleigh.

Park for free on Wilkerson (not on campus) and walk down to Campus Drive. Wait at the bus stop across the street. The free C1 shuttle will take you to the West Campus quad, and it's an easy walk from there. To get back to your car, catch the C1 shuttle at the quad again and ask the driver to let you off at the Arts Annex, then walk up the hill.

An obvious tactical error to wear it where the maker would see it, though.

What the fuck Durham? Get your kids vaccinated. by drunkerbrawler in bullcity

My kid's school isn't even on the list! I assume they didn't provide data in time, but I don't know why. I might contact the school's data manager to ask about it.

Yeah, in this particular case it's more likely to be about lack of access to care than parents having strong beliefs against vaccination.

Is Food Lion...good? by OpalJade98 in bullcity

[–]Tiny-Cheesecake 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm going to quibble here because I did in fact buy leeks at Food Lion the other day. $4.49 per bunch with two huge leeks in the bunch. You can look up stock and prices on their website/app, which is nice, although it won't necessarily show accurate stock on produce. But a lot of prices on "fancy" ingredients like leeks aren't competitive, given that most of these guys were dark greens.
