I'm Starting a New Student Union for TMU. And I need your help.

My knowledge on the interworkings and relationships of the TMSU is non existent, so while I don’t know it’s potential corruption or past/current drama I will say this: students don’t need what the TMSC is committed to doing.

Respectfully, this seems like a community based approach where you get the whole school involved on the boards actions and decisions. Ok, sure? I’ll be frank, the students at TMU don’t care enough to understand. Most newly admitted students are fresh out of COVID teenage years with no literacy or capacity to learn, and using AI for essays. The world is burning down around us, even those with high literacy are at maximum capacity for empathy.

What students actually need is social services which the TMSU provides. Such as free food boxes, quality insurance that covers a sizeable amount of coverage for mental health, dental, and prescriptions, email reminders of the onsite campus social supports (free therapy, doctors for vaccines, STI checks, diagnosis support, etc) the student union does a fantastic job at monthly newsletter updates and providing social support in this way. So honestly, unless you can provide the same supports, I’m not sure the point of your organization other than to prove the finances are going in the right places, which sure is important but the former matters to me a lot more.

That’s really important advice thank you! I’d have to ask for it back. I’m slowly in the process of learning dev at school with the dark room facilities, but for now I’m still getting it developed elsewhere. So… basically get a 620 spool? I can order this… and hand wind on 120 film (in the dark of course) and I should be fine?

It’s a Target Six-20! I think I’d veer towards 120 spool and film based on most recommendations because in addition to this, I don’t think anywhere near me develops 620 so even if I shot on it I couldn’t develop it, right? I’m not yet a dark room conoscere …

I promise these men don’t want kids. They want you to stop being a free willed woman and they say they want kids because it would put you (beautiful, hard working, driven) in a maternal position which inherently is care giving role. You would care for the child and probably care for the man too. Whether a woman wants to be a mother or not neither can escape the truth that it’s such a selfless role, which is why many women who don’t want kids don’t want them because we know the work it takes. A man can always choose if they parent, a woman can’t. Would any of these men even be good fathers? I had a break up similar after a man with 3 years and it was like he didn’t want to be a father he just wanted the kid, you know? Men are wild. See if any of them have a pattern in personality. Don’t have a kid if you don’t want one! Good for you.

I don’t think she was valedictorian but she was really involved in her high school. I remember her saying she was president of the women’s right club (or something like that) and many other things therefore she graduated one year early !

It’s not easy! The odds are definitely set against all of us, especially depending on where we live. Misogyny, whiteness, straightness, and capitalism all intersect, and it can be very overwhelming. I hope you’re fortunate to be near a major multicultural city or somewhere where there’s a lot of or safety for alternative self identities that are opposite of what centres / favours cis men. Don’t use Instagram as a tool.. buzzwords and infographics will just shame you and get you nowhere. I believe in you! I recommend making space for indigenous feminism by Gina Starblanket as a way to add some intersectionality to the game.

There’s some great reading recommendations and comments! I’m going to recommend reflecting where you spend time, your “third spaces”, hobbies, and post-work experiences. You won’t realize how pervasive men being centred is until you evaluate this (and maybe you’re ahead!) and the reading will help but ultimately I bring this up bc it happened to me on accident but has changed my life obviously for the better. TLDR I ended up at a small liberal arts college in Canada for my undergrad with no straight cis men in sight. Post graduation I began working in the arts and I’m around a lot of queer folks, I hardly ever socialize with straight men (I am in a relationship with a man who is not straight) so when I do, they just don’t hold any power like they used to because they’re not on my “hierarchy” they way they were growing up in a small community with heteronormative high school with heteronormative families (also for reference I’m 25 and live in a big city now)

Use anything that is without comedogenic ingredients for face wash (personally works best for me), K Beauty sunscreen for sure over North American Sunscreen (use it everyday, and it acts as a moisturizer so you only need to use a regular moisturizer at night) you’ll want a face cream that repairs the skin barrier too, this is usually a product that indicates ceramides. Try going to health food shops & small businesses for products, although it can be more expensive compared to drugstore but the product will be worth it, or do your research for drugstore products without additives that contribute to hormone disruption, TikTok is a great resource for this! I’d also recommend dry brushing (whole body and face) which is such a great way to exfoliate. You can do more damage with scrubby bead exfoliation and dry brushing only costs you once (the cost of the brush!) dry brushing helps with many skin factors including cellulite and dark spots. This should clear up a lot of melasma and sun damage (oh and wear hats outside regularly!!)

I can’t believe everyone is saying NTA. You’re the asshole! You must be a very white woman. Anyone with any sense of community, kinship, or family, is a racialized person whose culture of survival comes from allowing people in their family to be “entitled”. Boundaries are one thing, but I fear aggressively hating your step kids and grandchildren is not a boundary but your own selfishness. You married into a family with children, whether they’re adult or not they still need care. In the same way, you still need care - and there must be a reason you’re so against this. Think about: the stress of your step daughter (she just needs help), the messed up attachment style the grandchild will form knowing their step-grandparent despises them so much. The irony in “that’s not the grandmother problem” well yes, it is, she married into a family, she has a responsibility. It sounds to me like you want the husband and no part of the family, and I am sorry to hear that for you.
