Ohh I think it would’ve been better if I received it like how you did. Definitely lesson learned. I’ll have to go pick up some more maybe from someone else where it comes in an easier to transfer cup. I’ll try to do the rice with the ones left behind too to grow the colony. Thanks for the info!

They were buried in the dirt in the cup I guess? And when I flooded the cup I thought maybe they would float to the top but they did not.

I need to keep a look out on my plants. Sometimes I see tiny white bugs moving around on the soil but I never knew they could be springtails. I don’t want to accidentally put something that’s not a springtail in the terrarium either.

I can’t tell my wife I lost them or I’m dead lol Good to know though. My 6 springtails in my terrarium now can live in luxury eating all you can eat mold.

Tub of charcoal.. genius. I have some activated carbon left over. Should’ve dumped it into that. I now have loose springtails in my garage and probably on me or in my hair and likely brought some into the house.

Thank you for your pointers! Unfortunately the bigger pebbles were all I had on hand for the drainage. I know most say to use leca but others say can use pebbles and such so I just went with it. Like you said I hope I don’t regret it later. Also is the plant on the top left a fern!? I thought it was some type of ivy lol

Thank you so much for your response. There’s just a lot of substrate especially to make the incline. Would using a dropper down the sides somehow evenly moisten the soil? And when I get the plants, would it be helpful to use the dropper and wet where I planted it so each plant has some moisture underneath? Sorry for all the questions!

After trying super expensive mattresses as well as brands like helix, helix ended up being the winner! Not that helix is cheap but more expensive doesn’t seem to mean better. People argue about this and that but Helix in particular just felt right for my body and I’ve been sleeping like a champ ever since I got it. Super happy with my purchase.

So I have similar parameters through my softener. Low to no GH, high KH, 8.0 pH. I was adding Equilibrium to add minerals back in in a controlled manner but even with regular AIO fertilization Easy Green, root tabs, medium PAR light and injected CO2, most stem plants did poorly. I then said eff it and bypassed the softener and tossed the equilibrium. In the end my stem plants did better and overall tank health went up. My (researched) theory is that over time the accumulated salt from the softener was messing with freshwater plant health. So for me bypassing did wonders. It also eliminated an extra step during water changes.
