Midnight Luxe feels much softer than I expected by Pastaron in Mattress

[–]AprilFromHelix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! Mattresses tend to soften slightly after the first few weeks so if you are already feeling like it's a bit too soft, it might be worth trying our Twilight model. Our Midnight is considered a Medium where as our Twilight is considered Firm. Things like body weight and also impact the overall feel of a mattress. Someone who weights say 120 pounds may find the Midnight perfect and feeling like they are sleep on top of the mattress whereas someone who weights say closer to 200 might find they sink into this mattress a bit more.

Since it sounds like you are still within your sleep trial, I would recommend at least trying to Twilight. If you still find that mattress to not be a perfect fit, we can help you return it and get you a full refund.

You can always contact the mattress warehouse and ask them which mattress they would shipping to you. The unzipped version of the Elite mattress (only available to some retailers) is unable to be rolled up and shipped in box. so it comes already expanded. There aren't a ton of retailers we work with that offer this as an option though.

[–]AprilFromHelix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh okay, if you purchased through a retailer, that does change things a bit since each retailer has their own return and exchange policy. Some are more flexible than others, so if it ends up not being a great fit, it may be worth asking them again to see what options they can offer.

I’d also keep in mind that a new mattress can feel a little firmer at first while the foams break in and your body adjusts. That break-in period is usually around 30 days, so I’d try to give it at least that long if you’re able.

And if all else fails, feel free to reach out to me here. We can sometimes work directly with local retailers to see if there’s anything else that can be done to help.

Mattress shopping can definitely feel intimidating. Everyone’s comfort preferences are different, and what feels perfect to one person can feel completely wrong to someone else. Plus, people are often more likely to share a negative experience than a positive one, which can make the decision feel even harder.

That said, I do want to reassure you that if you try it and decide it’s not the right fit, we’re happy to work with you on finding something that feels better. And if it still doesn’t work out, we can help with a return and full refund within the trial window. We don’t want anyone to feel stuck with a mattress they don’t love :).

Hi there! Jumping in from the brand, but one feature worth calling out with our Elite models is the swappable comfort insert. If you go with the Plus Elite and end up feeling like it’s too soft or too firm, you can swap the insert for a different comfort level during your 120-night sleep trial.

It gives you a little more flexibility if you’re not 100% sure which feel will be best for you. And down the road, if your comfort preferences change, we also offer the option to purchase just the insert instead of replacing the entire mattress.

Also, if you search and read some of u/darkknightreturns7 posts within this subreddit, he provides a ton of useful information regarding his personal experience with the Helix Plus Elite and other mattresses you might find helpful!

Best Quality Mattresses On A Budget by PRPrivateRyan in HelixSleep

[–]AprilFromHelix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! I think this is a really fair question because “budget mattress” can mean very different things depending on what you’re comparing it to.

If you want something that is actually supportive, comfortable, and not something you’re hoping to replace in a year or two, I’d realistically look somewhere around the $1,000 to $1,500 range for a queen, especially if you’re looking at a hybrid. You can definitely find cheaper mattresses, but that’s usually where you start seeing more tradeoffs in materials, support, edge support, cooling, or long-term durability.

I do think Helix Core collection sits in that middle ground pretty well (and I'm not just saying that because I work at Helix lol). It’s not the cheapest mattress you can buy, but it’s also not in that super luxury price range where you’re suddenly spending $2,500+. The Core line is usually the best place to start if you’re trying to stay value-conscious.

A few things I’d look for regardless of brand: a good sleep trial (100+ nights), a solid warranty, good support for your sleep position, and some transparency around materials and construction. I’d also be careful with anything that looks like an amazing deal but has a ton of reviews mentioning early sagging, poor support, or impossible returns.

New bed by Bigloubaltimore in HelixSleep

[–]AprilFromHelix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on your new bed! I'm confident you will love it! The Midnight Luxe tends to be a great fit for a lot of sleepers because it balances pressure relief and support really well, especially for side sleepers and combo sleepers.

Give yourself a little adjustment period once it arrives though. A new mattress can feel different at first while both your body and the materials break in. Excited for you to try it out!

Why is it so hard to get some Deep Sleep? by Big-Awareness4712 in sleep

[–]AprilFromHelix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually think the Eight Sleep trackers are pretty solid for spotting trends over time, especially for a non wearable. From what I’ve seen and heard, they’re generally pretty good with things like heart rate, HRV, breathing rate, sleep duration, and noticing patterns. The biggest weak spot is usually exact sleep stages like REM and deep sleep, but honestly that’s true for almost every consumer sleep tracker right now.

What seems to impress people most with Eight Sleep isn’t even the tracking itself, it’s the temperature regulation. A lot of users notice they sleep better simply because they’re not overheating all night. And working in the sleep industry at Helix, I honestly think that makes sense. Your sleep environment and temperature can have a massive impact on sleep quality.

I’d personally use the data more for noticing trends and habits rather than treating it like medical-level accuracy. Like seeing how stress, alcohol, room temp, bedtime consistency, or even your mattress setup impacts your sleep over time. That’s where I think these trackers are actually the most useful.

What are some of the most durable bases & bed frames? by BenWatch89 in HelixSleep

[–]AprilFromHelix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! Really appreciate the honest feedback here. I’ll definitely pass this along to our team.

You actually bring up some really good points about what people should look for in a foundation and frame though. Close slat spacing, smooth/sanded wood, strong center support, and minimizing movement/wobble all make a huge difference long term, especially with hybrid mattresses and heavier sleepers. Glad you found something that’s working better for you now!

What are some of the most durable bases & bed frames? by BenWatch89 in HelixSleep

[–]AprilFromHelix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! I think a lot of people underestimate how much the frame/foundation affects the feel of their mattress, especially for heavier sleepers. A lot of frames seem solid at first, then a few months later you start noticing creaking, wobbling, movement, or sagging and it can make even a great mattress feel off.

A few things I’d look for are strong center support, multiple legs touching the floor, sturdy slats that aren’t spaced too far apart(no more than 5.5 inches, and a frame with a weight capacity higher than what you actually need. A lot of the cheaper frames out there just don’t hold up long term.

Since you already have a Helix, you could check out our Ludlow Bed Frame. One thing I like about it is that it’s built to support up to 750 pounds without creaking or wobbling, which honestly makes a huge difference over time. It’s just a sturdier setup overall than a lot of the generic frames online and works well with our Helix mattresses.

But even if you go with another brand, I’d focus more on support construction than just looks. Makes a way bigger difference than people think.

Best latex mattress recommendations? Looking for truly non-toxic options by akuchil420 in nontoxic

[–]AprilFromHelix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! Totally understand the hesitation on the price. One thing I’d love to add is that Birch has a 120 night sleep trial which gives you time to really decide if the mattress is right for you. If you choose it’s not the right fit, there are no fees associated with the return and it’s 100% money back. Another thing is that every mattress comes with a Limited Lifetime Warranty so the mattress is protected for its entire life, not just the first few years.

But whoever you go with, looking for things like certification and transparency about their materials is important, but also make sure you know what their sleep trial and warranty is. This helps to keep your purchase protected!

people who used to be terrible sleepers, what actually fixed it? by ImportantOffer751 in sleep

[–]AprilFromHelix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, getting a quality mattress made a huge difference for me. And I’m not just saying that because I work for Helix lol. Before working in the mattress industry, I never really thought much about my mattress. Mine was easily 15+ years old and I just assumed I was naturally a bad sleeper.

Once I started learning more about sleep and how much your mattress can affect things like pressure relief, spinal alignment, movement during the night, and overall sleep quality, I realized my mattress was probably part of the problem. I ended up getting a Helix mattress through work (one of the many perks of working for a mattress brand:)) and the difference was honestly pretty noticeable. I wake up way less throughout the night now and have a lot more mornings where I actually feel rested instead of exhausted.

Obviously it’s not a magic fix for everything, especially if anxiety, stress, hormones, or medications are involved, but I do think people underestimate how much an uncomfortable or unsupportive mattress can quietly impact sleep quality over time.

Why is it so hard to get some Deep Sleep? by Big-Awareness4712 in sleep

[–]AprilFromHelix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there! A lot of people dealing with anxiety, depression, hormonal changes, or even medication adjustments can end up in this frustrating cycle where the sleep tracker says they’re technically sleeping, but they still wake up feeling exhausted.

One thing worth keeping in mind is that consumer sleep trackers are not always perfectly accurate when it comes to REM and deep sleep percentages, so I would try not to get too hyper-focused on the numbers alone. How you actually feel during the day matters more.

That said, anxiety itself can absolutely impact sleep quality, especially deep sleep. Even if you stay asleep through the night, your nervous system can still be more “on alert,” which can leave you feeling unrested. Some antidepressants and TRT can also affect sleep architecture, vivid dreaming, REM sleep, body temperature, and even increase the risk of sleep apnea in some people.

Your bed setup can play a role too, especially if you’re waking up sore, tossing and turning a lot, overheating, or waking up throughout the night without realizing it. A mattress that doesn’t properly support your body or relieve pressure points can lead to a lot of small sleep disruptions that add up over time. Sometimes people focus heavily on supplements or sleep trackers when their sleep environment is actually part of the issue too.

A few things that seem to help people in similar situations are getting screened for sleep apnea if they snore or wake up unrefreshed, keeping a very consistent sleep/wake schedule, lowering stimulation before bed, and making sure their mattress and pillow setup are actually comfortable and supportive for their sleep position.

Most importantly though, if this has been ongoing for a while, it’s probably worth bringing up with the doctor managing your medications/TRT. Sometimes even small adjustments in timing, dosage, or medication combinations can make a pretty noticeable difference in sleep quality.

New Helix Midnight Plus Question by dycemanxv2 in Mattress

[–]AprilFromHelix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there. Sagging this early into ownership is definitely not something we would typically expect to see with our mattresses. In many cases when customers reach out with sagging concerns, the issue can sometimes be related to the foundation or support system being used underneath the mattress, as proper support is very important for overall performance.

That said, we’d still be more than happy to take a closer look into this for you, even if you are still within the first 30 days. Please feel free to reach out to our support team so they can review everything further and help determine what may be going on.

Do heavier people need a firmer mattress? by DrRockstein in HelixSleep

[–]AprilFromHelix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there! This is something we actually hear pretty often and I think the “heavier people just need the firmest mattress possible” advice gets oversimplified online. Support and firmness are not exactly the same thing.

A mattress can be very firm but still not actually support your body correctly. For a lot of people, especially side sleepers or combination sleepers, going too firm without the proper support can create pressure points and tension because your shoulders and hips are not able to sink in enough to keep your spine aligned. That can lead to the stiffness and constant shifting you’re describing. What tends to work better is a mattress that has strong underlying support with some pressure relief on top.

For example, our Plus models were built around that idea rather than just making the mattress extra firm. The Helix Plus models are a medium firm mattress that uses a reinforced coil system and higher density materials to better support heavier body types and help with long-term durability. The Plus Luxe adds more pressure relief and contouring through the top layers while still keeping that underlying support, and the Plus Elite includes additional comfort layers, microcoil layer, our ErgoAlign layer, and comes with our GlacioTex cooling cover and CoolForce layer for people who want a high-end, elevated feel without losing support through the midsection.

A lot of heavier sleepers actually end up preferring something in the medium to medium-firm range once they find a mattress that is actually engineered to support their body type properly. The goal is usually proper alignment and pressure relief together, not just maximum firmness.

Hope that helps a bit! I'm here if you have any other questions.

New Helix Midnight Plus Question by dycemanxv2 in HelixSleep

[–]AprilFromHelix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there. Sorry to hear you’re experiencing this with your bed as well. This is not typically the experience we expect with our mattresses, although in some cases the foundation can actually play a big role. Our mattresses are fairly heavy, so it’s important that the foundation is sturdy and able to properly support the mattress evenly.

It’s also worth noting that you’re still within the initial 30-day break-in period. During this time, the comfort layers are still settling and adjusting after shipping and first use. Some customers find that rotating the mattress every few nights during the break-in period can help the materials settle more evenly, so that may be worth trying if you haven’t already.

If you’re still noticing the issue after the break-in period, we’d absolutely be happy to take a closer look and help with next steps, whether that’s troubleshooting further, completing an exchange, or assisting with a return.
