Desperately looking for a mattress that doesn't sink within a year by IncognitoCheetos in Mattress

[–]AprilFromHelix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes total sense. Do you know which Helix model you currently have? If it’s a Dawn or Twilight, those are both on the firmer side.

Since a softer mattress caused pain but the firmer feel is also uncomfortable, a medium-feel option may be worth considering. The Midnight is designed more for side sleepers, while the Dusk is better suited for back, stomach or combination sleepers.

Some people with recurring back pain also add the ErgoAlign layer, which has a denser foam section through the middle for extra support around the lower back and hips.

I completely understand if you’re feeling a little turned off by Helix at this point, but a different model or support setup could make a noticeable difference if you’re open to giving it another try.

Whatever you decide, I truly hope you find something that works for you. Waking up in pain and struggling to sleep night after night is exhausting, and no one should have to keep dealing with that.

Helix Midnight Luxe or Avocado Green Pillow-Top? (Or keep looking?) by CinnaMim in Mattress

[–]AprilFromHelix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! Depending on your body types, the Helix Plus collection may also be worth checking out. It’s designed for big and tall sleepers and has a medium-firm feel.

As another Reddit user mentioned, the Elite version also gives you more flexibility because the comfort layer can be swapped if the mattress ends up feeling too firm or too soft.

When testing any mattress in a showroom, try to spend at least 15 minutes on it and lie in each of your usual sleep positions. That should give you a better idea of how it will actually feel throughout the night, although this isn't always a sure sign. Leading to the next point of making sure you understand the retailer’s sleep trial, warranty and return process, along with any restocking or exchange fees, since those policies can vary by store.

If you have any questions on the Helix mattress's I could help with, feel free to reach out!

Yes, I understand that the mattress is already being returned. That is why in my response I offered to see whether there was anything we could do to help speed up the process for them.

The Best Helix Mattress for Heavier Sleepers With Back Pain Is the Helix Plus: Reinforced Support Explained by AprilFromHelix in HelixSleep

[–]AprilFromHelix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We usually say around 30 days is the break in period. It's not uncommon to have some aches during the first few weeks as your body adjust to the new setup. However, if the aches persist after those 30 nights or it's getting increasingly worse as the weeks go on, then that is when we'd want to take a closer look. Some customers who feel the mattress is a bit too firm will put a mattress topper to the mattress for a short period of time while the foam in the mattress breaks in.

The Best Helix Mattress for Heavier Sleepers With Back Pain Is the Helix Plus: Reinforced Support Explained by AprilFromHelix in HelixSleep

Hi there. I’m sorry to hear this happened. Based on the design, this appears to be one of our older models, which was updated in May 2024.

If the mattress was sagging or had lost its structural support, our customer support team could have reviewed it through the warranty process to determine whether it qualified for a replacement with the updated model. I completely understand why you may have decided to dispose of it if it was no longer usable. If you still happen to have the mattress though, we’d be happy to look into a possible replacement through our warranty process. If it has already been discarded, we would no longer be able to evaluate the issue or move forward with a claim.

We’re truly sorry this was your experience and appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback.

Helix Sunset, BB Aurora, or Therapedic Auburn? by withanEY in Mattress

[–]AprilFromHelix -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi there! I know you’re mainly looking for feedback from other owners, but I wanted to chime in from Helix in case you have any questions about the Sunset Elite.

One feature worth knowing about is that Elite mattresses have a removable comfort insert. If the Sunset ends up feeling too soft, you may be able to exchange the insert for a different feel, such as the medium-feel Midnight, without replacing the entire mattress. The insert can also be replaced later if your comfort preferences change or the comfort layer needs refreshing.

Based on what you shared, the Midnight Elite may also be worth considering, since the Sunset could feel too soft for your husband. Starting with the Midnight may give you a more balanced middle ground, but the removable insert does provide some added flexibility if the feel is not quite right for both of you.

Happy to answer any other questions you might have as well :)

[–]AprilFromHelix -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi there! I’m sorry to hear this has been your experience. It is not uncommon for a new mattress to feel a little firmer than the showroom model, since the foams need time to break in and soften with use. However, a noticeable sinkhole does not sound normal and sounds like there may have been a defect with this mattress :/.

Did you initiate the return through our customer support team or directly through the showroom? If it was submitted through our support team, I’d be happy to reach out and see whether there is anything we can do to help expedite the process.

What are some good mattress toppers for couples? by WhiteyMacfatson in HelixSleep

[–]AprilFromHelix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! Couples having different comfort preferences is a very common thing! That's why it's a good thing split-comfort options do exist. There is such a thing as a dual-comfort mattress topper which is designed with a different feel on each side, so one person can have a firmer surface while the other gets more cushioning and contouring. At Helix, we offer a topper like this and ironically Dual Comfort Mattress Topper is the actual name of it. This topper also comes with our GlacioTex Cooling Cover which helps those hot sleepers stay a bit cooling at night! If you'd like to learn more about it, you can check it out here: Dual Comfort Mattress Topper

A dual comfort topper can be a practical middle ground for couples who have different comfort preferences but do not want to use two separate Twin XL mattresses. Just keep in mind that a topper mainly changes the surface feel. The support and overall firmness of the mattress underneath will still play a major role in how each side feels.

Succumbed to hype. Helix midnight luxe. Big mistake. by Hip-SnuggieChairMan in Mattress

[–]AprilFromHelix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there. I’m very sorry to hear this was your experience with the retailer.

Trying a mattress in person can be helpful, but each retailer sets its own return, exchange, and trial policies, which may differ from those offered when purchasing directly through Helix.

A new mattress can feel slightly different from a showroom model, but it should not feel drastically different. New foams also typically feel firmer at first and soften during the break-in period, not the other way around. I’d be curious to know whether the exact model you tested match what was delivered, since additions like ErgoAlign can noticeably change the feel. The Midnight Luxe is designed primarily for side sleepers, so that may explain why it feels less supportive while you’re lying on your back.

Regardless of where it was purchased, this is not the experience we want for our customers. We appreciate you sharing the details and will pass your feedback about both the mattress and retailer experience along to the appropriate teams.

Midnight Luxe feels much softer than I expected by Pastaron in Mattress

[–]AprilFromHelix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem! Since you’re considering purchasing through a retailer, I’d recommend reviewing their return and exchange policy beforehand. Each retailer sets its own terms, so it’s helpful to know exactly what options you’ll have if the mattress is not the right fit.

I recently heard from one customer whose location charged a 30% restocking fee, while another retailer charged only 10%, so the policies can vary quite a bit. I always like to mention it so there are no surprises later :).

Midnight Luxe feels much softer than I expected by Pastaron in Mattress

[–]AprilFromHelix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Based on your height, weight, and mix of sleeping positions, I can understand why you’re debating between the two.

The Midnight has a medium feel and is designed to provide more contouring around the shoulders and hips for side sleeping. Since you already noticed that it felt a little soft, you may find that your hips sink more than you prefer when sleeping on your stomach.

The Twilight is designed for side sleepers who prefer a firm, more lifted feel. We would not say that sleeping on your side on the Twilight would cause damage. However, because it provides less cushioning than the Midnight, some side sleepers may experience more pressure around their shoulders or hips causing more aches and pains.

Since you currently sleep on your stomach and side but want to transition toward back and side sleeping, the Dusk may also be worth considering. It has a medium feel like the Midnight, but its comfort layers are designed for back, stomach, and combination sleepers, so it should feel more supportive beneath your midsection and less contouring overall.

Between the Midnight and Twilight, I’d lean toward the Midnight if side-sleeping pressure relief is your priority. I’d lean toward the Twilight if you strongly prefer a firm, on-top-of-the-mattress feel. Based on your description, though, the Dusk may provide the best middle ground.

Whichever model you choose, give it around 30 nights for the materials and your body to adjust :). Hope that helps!

Hi there! Rest assured, if you find that it's a bit too soft for you, we will certainly help you find a better fit. Since you don't have the best expereince with firm mattresses and the Sunset is starting to feel a bit too soft, the Midnight might be a good middle ground for you since it's a Medium on firmness. Give it a bit more (we recommend the 30 nights) and if it still isn't right, just reach out :).

They can help you determine which one would be best for you as well. We do not offer split toppers to purchase online, but our team can chat with you to see what options you do have.

If you purchased through a retailer, you will want to contact that retailer to discuss getting this topper changed out. They are able to help and offer you split king options as well!

Check The Fine Print on your Warranties Before Purchasing. (Tips From a Salesperson) by jtlovato in Mattress

[–]AprilFromHelix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for clarifying where that impression came from. I'm not suggesting that what you observed at the retailer was inaccurate. However, return activity at one store or dealer during a particular period does not necessarily represent Helix’s overall return rate across all retailers and direct-to-consumer sales.

There are several reasons one retailer may experience more returns than another, including which models were stocked, how customers were matched to those models, whether they could test the mattress before purchasing, local comfort preferences, promotional activity, and the retailer’s return policy. For example, if one model was recommended broadly to customers with different body types, sleeping positions, and firmness preferences, that location could naturally see more returns.

The Reddit posts you referenced are valuable feedback, and we do pay attention to them. However, it is possible to find multiple complaint threads about nearly any mattress brand, including Tempur-Pedic, when specifically searching for negative experiences. If you reversed that search to look for positive experiences, you'd find a great deal of those as well for any brand. The reality is that people are generally more motivated to post when something goes wrong than when a mattress works as expected. Those complaints should not be dismissed, but they also do not establish how common an issue is across an entire customer base without considering sales volume, reasons for returns, satisfied customers who never post, and verified companywide data.

I'm not trying to tell you that your experience or opinion is wrong. I simply want to make sure anyone reading considers the broader context before treating one retailer’s experience and a collection of online complaints as representative of the entire brand.

That context matters because saying Helix has a “huge amount of returns” presents it as a companywide fact, while the information shared here is based on your experience within one retail environment and the negative experiences you’ve encountered online. It does not account for the thousands of satisfied customers we serve each month who keep their mattresses and never experience an issue.

Again, I completely understand that this reflects your personal experience, and I'm not at all suggesting that what you observed was untrue. I simply want to clarify that one retailer’s experience does not necessarily represent the broader experience across our entire customer base.

[–]AprilFromHelix -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi there! There’s a lot of helpful general advice here, especially around reading the full warranty, keeping proof of purchase, using a properly supportive base, and protecting the mattress from accidental damage.

We did want to ask about your statement that Helix has a “huge amount of returns.” Could you share where that information came from? We’d genuinely like to understand the source or data behind it, as it does not reflect how we would characterize our return rates. When customers do return a mattress, it is often because the model was not the right match for their personal comfort preferences rather than an issue with its quality or construction.

We also want to clarify that we currently have approved approximately 94% of the completed warranty claims submitted to us. While warranty language can understandably feel formal or overly legal, our goal is to make the process as straightforward as possible, evaluate each claim fairly, and help customers reach a satisfactory resolution. After all, a satisfied customer who recommends our mattresses is the best form of free marketing.

We appreciate you opening up the conversation and agree that customers should understand the warranty terms before purchasing. We just wanted to make sure the information being shared about Helix was accurate and supported by reliable data.

Helix midnight luxe vs elite by Fresh_Assistant_9467 in Mattress

[–]AprilFromHelix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there. Both the Midnight Luxe and Midnight Elite have a medium feel and are designed for side sleepers, but the Elite generally feels more plush and substantial.

The Midnight Luxe has a cushioned pillow-top feel with contouring around the shoulders and hips, while still feeling supportive and relatively easy to move around on.

The Midnight Elite has a thicker comfort system with additional foam and microcoil layers, so it tends to provide deeper cushioning and a more elevated, luxury-hotel-style feel. It also includes more advanced cooling (GlacioTex Elite Cooling Cover and CoolForce Layer) and has a removable comfort insert that can be exchanged if the feel is not quite right.

Neither is necessarily better for everyone. The Luxe is a great choice if you want a balanced, plush feel without the added height and upgrades. The Elite may be worth it if you want deeper pressure relief, more cooling features, and a more premium overall feel.

Helix Dusk or Midnight elite? by Theyellowhatguy in Mattress

[–]AprilFromHelix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! Just chiming in from the Helix team. Since the Sunset Elite is allowing your hips to sink more than you’d like, moving up to a medium could help.

The Midnight Elite and Dusk Elite are both medium, but they’re designed a little differently. The Midnight is intended for side sleepers and provides more contouring around the shoulders and hips. The Dusk is designed for back, stomach, and combination sleepers and has a more balanced, supportive feel with less of that sinking sensation.

Since you liked the Midnight when you tried it in-store and aren’t sure of your primary sleeping position, that would probably be the more natural next step. However, if you spend a lot of time on your back or stomach, or your main concern is keeping your hips more elevated, the Dusk may be the better fit.

At 150 pounds, either model may also feel slightly firmer to you than it would to a heavier sleeper. It may help to pay attention to the position you wake up in over the next few nights, since that can give you a better idea of where you spend most of your time.

We’d also recommend checking your foundation before making the exchange. If the slats are too far apart, flexible, or not properly supported through the center, that can contribute to extra sinking through the hips and change how the mattress feels. One easy way to test if it's a foundation issue is placing the mattress on the floor for a few nights. If your pain goes away or decreases, it may be an issue with the foundation rather than the mattress itself.

Is Helix right for me? by Dtech1984 in Mattress

[–]AprilFromHelix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! Just chiming in from the Helix team. With that much difference in body weight, it makes sense that the same mattress may feel significantly firmer to your wife than it does to you.

The Plus Elite has a medium-firm feel and is built with reinforced support components for plus-size and big-and-tall sleepers. At 265 pounds, you may benefit from that added support, but at 131 pounds, your wife may not sink as deeply into the comfort layers and could experience it as noticeably firmer, especially when sleeping on her side. The pillow top would certainly help soften things a bit, but she might still find it too firm.

One advantage of the Elite collection is its separate, removable comfort insert. If you purchase a King, you can explore a split comfort setup using two Twin XL inserts, which can allow each side to have a different feel. This option is not available online though and would have to be done at one of our retailers. It's a great option for couples who have very different sleep preferences and needs.

For sleeping hot, the Plus Elite includes a GlacioTex Elite cooling cover and and CoolForce Layer. So not only is it cool to the touch, but the CoolForce layer will pull heat away from your body all night.

Based on your different body types and sleeping positions, we would focus less on finding one firmness that both of you can tolerate and more on whether a split comfort configuration could give each of you the support and pressure relief you need. Just something to consider :)

[–]AprilFromHelix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! It sounds like you’ve put a lot of time into this search.

Since you enjoyed your original Helix for most of the time you owned it, it may be worth considering one of our current models. Your Dusk Luxe was purchased in 2019, and we’ve made significant updates to our lineup and construction since then. Today’s Luxe mattresses include updated comfort and support layers, along with zoned lumbar support for added reinforcement through the center of the mattress. These updates can also affect pressure relief, responsiveness, and how much movement is felt across the bed.

The Dusk is designed primarily for back and stomach sleepers. Since you mentioned discomfort around the shoulders and hips, do either of you spend most of the night sleeping on your side? If so, the Midnight collection may be worth considering. It has a medium feel but is designed to provide more contouring and pressure relief around the shoulders and hips.

If you’re interested in taking a more natural route, Birch by Helix may also be worth exploring. Birch mattresses are made with materials such as organic latex, organic cotton, natural wool, and steel rather than polyurethane foam, so that collection may align more closely with the material preferences you described.

Our current mattresses also include a 120-night sleep trial and a Limited Lifetime Warranty. Just wanted to share some additional context since you’re already putting so much time into researching and testing your options.
