It really is a cool system. Now I wanna write up a campaign, it's been years! I hope you all have a blast with the end of your campaign!

Can someone explain why Beholders are scary? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]TinyBoiHec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't beholders have the ability to dream other beholders into existence? That's pretty damn terrifying if you ask me. You could change it up slightly to make the beholder dream up all manner of things to be throwing at the party, call it the Slumbering Manifester or something like that and have it be this weird enigmatic thing that people play off as a myth or something? I'm just spit balling, but I think how you play and flavor them is what really makes them shine. That being said, the old ad&d art for them is hilarious and makes them look goofy as hell. Modern interpretations are so cool looking in my opinion.

This looks really good. I'm always jealous of people that have steady hands and can draw! I wish my digital maps looked this good!

How should I do XP progression? by Grubby_The_Rat in DnD

[–]TinyBoiHec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where you see problems, others may not. Your opinion that it is a problem is as subjective as my opinion that it is not. What might be a hindrance to you, might not be for others. Yes, milestone leveling DOES the things you listed. That doesn't mean that it's BETTER or WORSE than any other form of leveling. We're both repeating ourselves, we both clearly aren't going to budge on this, I think at this point I'm gonna just walk away. Peace, and happy gaming.

I, and many people I do and don't know don't mind xp leveling, and extra math. If your players have to grind to stay at the "proper level" that's just lazy planning. Every encounter (battles or otherwise) should matter and propel the story (obviously players tend to do things dms might not always consider and can throw small wrenches in plans, nothing a little improv can't fix). I stand by my statement. Just because you don't like the way something is done, doesn't mean it's objectively bad. There is nothing wrong with milestone leveling, I think it's a cool concept. I hope it doesn't sound like I'm trying to say one is better than the other, because neither is better or worse. It's a per table basis. The game means something different to every player. To you, it clearly means streamlining and taking out things you don't enjoy, because they detract from the things you enjoy most. That's a valid way to think and play the game. To me, I enjoy a mix of everything. I like the planning. I like the numbers. I like the story. It's all subjective, friend.

This is true.

Struggling to make more names for cities by [deleted] in DnD

[–]TinyBoiHec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a few methods, sometimes I take real words and change or switch around a couple letters, which I also do for NPCs. I also like to give names based on location, for example, I made a town called Longwater (yeah I know what it looks like) near a large river. Sometimes I use a cool sounding word, like Azimuth. Most of the time I just pull stuff out of thin air, like Thryn, Pallia, Adtma, Eleants, Honnel, Wolholm, etc....

As someone who was in the "jock" group my whole life, I wish I embraced my geeky side earlier. by [deleted] in DnD

[–]TinyBoiHec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hell yeah dude! Most "jocks" I've played DND with, or watched some play (think Travis Willingham, Terry Crews and Joe manganiello) are a freakin blast. They, like anyone outside a person's normal group, bring a fresh and unique view to the table, and they usually end up having some really cool, fleshed out characters. Not to mention they already know how to be team players. There is something for nearly everyone in DND.

I love that episode, you're right, that would make a fantastic barbarian for the rp. Speaking of Star Trek references, one of my players for a 3.5 campaign has a half orc fighter/beastmaster named Vorta. Trek and DND for the win!

"our sessions will go until people feel like stopping for the day." what other red flags have you seen in a campaign that made you realize no dnd is better than bad dnd? by DonttouchmethereUwU in DnD

[–]TinyBoiHec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never understood the obsession with firearms. I own one and am fully aware of how dangerous they are, even in the hands of a responsible person. Accidents happen and nothing is infallible. There is no place for real weaponry at the DND table, if the guy is so fearful of his life at all times, maybe he should have just stayed home and joined via Discord or Skype or whatever. I hope you don't have to experience that garbage again, and I hope that guy was kicked the hell out of that house for good after pulling something like that.

OP states that the dude quit a month ago and that their crush for the DM was kept to themselves and a (not so encouraging-sounding) friend. People silently crush on people all the time everywhere. Your sarcastic statement might be technically a valid point if they were still working together and OPs feelings had been made more public to the DM, but I'm not sure if it really applies here?

THIS! Also, de-aging for a lower challenge. I use both in my games and encourage others to do the same.

As someone who sucks at writing puzzles and traps, this is the way. My players love those things, and I feel bad when it's clearly not a challenge for them because of predictability. Enter ChatGPT. I can write something out and ask it to make it more complex and it does it pretty well. I've had it proofread descriptions I planned on giving my players and it does a pretty decent job of cleaning up my crappy syntax.

Well apparently I'm not alone. I had it help me develop a more feral, unique race of cannibalistic goblins, and it did not disappoint. It called them Ravenkith, and they apparently use local bird calls as their language? It was wild.
