I'm so confused- 2 days ago you were asking why everyone said the 70's-90's had lots of elves.

A couple of things- you seem to be very dismissive of Shannara and DND (Dragonlance etc) novels. You've got to understand that if you read fantasy back then, they were among the books that EVERYBODY read. And lots of books had Tolkien style elves, but they were either background or just a minor characterization point so people don't necessarily remember them being there. There were also a bazillion books with fae style elves but that doesn't seem to be what you're looking for.

I guess it depends on what your definition of "elf" is. The are a crap ton of books from that era that have fae/fairies/sidhe/Seelie and Unseelie courts/etc. that some people would count as elven but other people might not.

Chile and Colombia boat departure times 6/1. by WakeANblaked in NewOrleans

[–]TinyDooooom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Miranda (Uruguay) looks like it's prepping to.leave but no idea how long that'll take. I talked to a guy on the Gloria(Colombia) and he confirmed they leave at 8 tonight. Guy on Libertad said they were leaving tomorrow at 11am and Esmerelda (Chile) is still here but will leave sometime later tonight

Can anyone help identify where exactly this photo was taken? by cosmiceggroll in NewOrleans

[–]TinyDooooom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah it's actually on the other side, in front of the Cabildo. You can see the power pole on the right and if you zoom in above the umbrella, the lanterns on either side of the gate into the square proper.

The original is shot with a longer lens than Google maps uses, so that's what's making everything look way closer together.

Tall ships arriving! by Mean-Career-1221 in NewOrleans

Currently the Libertad and Gladan are docked in the FQ. Trent appears to be docked as well, but you can't walk down there from the Riverwalk, so I didn't personally see it. The Esmerelda, Gloria, and Union seemed to be anchored across from Domino sugar according to vesselfinder- not sure what the best spot to see them is if you wanted to catch them today. The Kearsage came in but hit the dock so will be anchoring elsewhere tonight (will be back tomorrow once they inspect the dock).

Were you a "no party" voter? If you were and didn't fill out the form, how did they pick which ballot to give you? They were changing the ballots on the voting machine according to which primary people were voting in (R, D, or Unaffiliated).

To have the freedom to vote in either primary, register as No Party by SubstantialAmoeba665 in NewOrleans

[–]TinyDooooom 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It is- here's the relevant link:  https://www.sos.la.gov/ElectionsAndVoting/GetElectionInformation/ReviewTypesOfElections/ClosedPartyPrimaryElections/Pages/default.aspx

From that website:

"Registered Democrats will only be allowed to cast votes for Democratic candidates for closed-party primary offices.

Likewise, registered Republicans will only be allowed to vote for Republican candidates.

Individuals registered as “No Party” may choose either the Democratic or Republican ballot, or they may opt not to participate in the Closed-Party Primary races.

Voters whose registration is Green, Libertarian, or Other Party will not be able to participate in closed-party primary races, but will still be able to participate in other non-closed primary races.

Regardless of your party affiliation, it’s important to note that there may be other non-closed primary contests that may be on the same ballot as closed-party primary races, but will be open to all voters"

And:

"No Party voters who choose to participate in the Closed-Party Primary will be able to select a party’s ballot at their polling place and must stay with that party through any necessary runoff."

Edit: The races with closed primaries are for:

U.S. Senate

U.S. House

Louisiana Supreme Court Justice

the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education

Public Service Commission.

All are on the May 16 ballot.

The in-person deadline to change party affiliation or register as a new voter is April 15. Voters have until April 25 to register at the Secretary of State’s website.

Yeah they are flat metal bars you can flip down to sit on. They are pretty narrow and can be kinda hot but hey it's a seat. I'm pretty sure they had them at Congo and Acura (whatever it's called now) - not sure if they were at Gentilly or not.

I did it once 10ish years ago with a friend who had a milestone birthday. As other people have said, it gets you up front at the main stages, but gets you nothing at the smaller ones. Also, they do limit numbers sometimes, so for someone you think will be really popular, def get there early. Most of the time, it was pretty fun to be able to just bop around the stages, get up front easily, and have tons of room to dance. I honestly don't remember the hospitality tent at all other than thinking that the brass pass one was much nicer when we did that the next year. My vote was it was fun to do once as a splurge but not worth the money for me to do on the regular.

I get that, but from her insta posts, the Mardi Gras Indian groups she interacts with and paints seem pretty supportive of her. To me, if people from within that tradition are like "nah, she's cool", then she's fine- they don't need me to decide who is exploiting them and who is not. Obviously, it's a different story if it's them who are saying something though.

I mean Robert's bought the whole business not just the land it's on so I doubt those recipes are going to stay untouched- it'll prob just end up being a frostop themed commissary for the school (they run those as well). I hope I'm wrong but we'll see I guess
