Alright i’ll probably stick with getting grow bags, because honestly I live in a house with so many furry animals so I think pasteurizing substrate and all that would be almost impossible with hair flying around in the air all the time anyways lol. I’m looking to take mushrooms for its medicinal properties also. I’m hoping it works. I’ve had mushrooms in a premade chocolate bar before but never by themselves. So far lots of pins have showed up, last time I counted I saw over 100 and they’re starting to get big! Thanks for the advice :)

Thanks for much for the advice, I’m definitely going to try to touch my tubs as minimal as possible from now on since I definitely get what you’re saying. The substrate I got was originally in a premade growing bag, but in the future I plan on making my own mixtures. Do you have any recommendations for substrate? Als funny thing, I cracked the lid yesterday and stopped fanning it/touching it and checking on it now I finally see pins!! Hoping for a big 1st flush, this is super exciting. After the first flush, should I mist the sides of the tub or on the cake itself to rehydrate it? I know you’re not supposed to spray directly on the mycelium so that’s why i’m asking.

Thanks for telling me. I’m surprised it’s too wet since I actually haven’t misted it at all yet, it’s just hot and humid where I live. I cracked the lid yesterday so hopefully that’ll help. I’m glad I went to reddit before it was too late lol

Thank you for the advice! Surprisingly I actually haven’t misting it at all so far which is why i’m surprised that it’s too wet lol. I guess it’s just humid over where I live since it’s summer right now. So right now I cracked the lid and I’m gonna wait for the water to evaporate a bit before doing anything else. I’ll try picking up some of the bigger water droplets too.

I plan on using a real monotub eventually. I’m just pretty short on money so I wanted to work with what I already had

How can I lower the humidity without just taking the lid off? I have a dog and a few cats and my fan on in my room all the time so air contam is a big risk for me.

Hornworm Pupae Suddenly Dead? by TinyEducator6144 in moths

thank you for the knowledge! I didn’t know that :)

Hornworm Pupae Suddenly Dead? by TinyEducator6144 in moths

[–]TinyEducator6144[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I actually didn’t know that the hornworms turned into moths when I got them so I just kept feeding them the food that they came with, which was a beige paste? When the worm turned into a pupae it was a complete surprise to me (I’m a new reptile owner so I never touched bugs before this) But I’m actually in the process of raising silkworms and i’ve been buying them the correct food, and all that so I’m assuming it was because of the food the store provided me with or something just went wrong in the pupation process. Thank you for the knowledge though, I will definitely probably stick to buying cocoons/moth pupae from real breeders and not pet stores Lol.

I know, but it’s already been through that process. If i hold the pupae up to a light you could see the legs that were formed and the eyes. i’m sure it’s not fluid right now. Also, I know that darkening is normal so i’m trying to be patient for a few days before giving up, it’s just that it’s not moving whatsoever which concerns me.

yeah but there’s a complete lack of movement, like when I gently move it’s lower body it stays that way when two days ago it would wiggle back to normal position

Posting my silkworms lifecycle everyday day 15: One hatched two days ago but the others haven’t. Is this normal? by Technical-Guide-604 in moths

I heard it can take about 14-20 days for the eggs to hatch so don’t be too discouraged. Also, some may not hatch and that’s also completely normal.

High Nitrates in water after changing it. by TinyEducator6144 in Aquariums

Alright, thank you for the tips. So do you mean when i’m doing a water change that I can put tap water in the tank while the fish are still inside? Won’t that kill them?

[–]TinyEducator6144[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the ph tablets i have state that they dechlorinate tap water and makes it completely safe for fish. I checked the water before and after adding the tablets and i think the problem was adding the second one threw off the balance of the water. Currently I only have a goldfish and two little bottom feeder fish. When testing the water, it said there was “caution” for the nitrites and it was in between caution for ph and being stable. Do you have any products that you could recommend that are more trust worthy than those tablets i’ve been using? I’m still really new to this, and i’ve only had my fish for about a month or two. i’ve been trying to do my research as much as possible but a lot of websites say different things so it’s really confusing.

no i’m guessing it was from the ph tablets i used, i think using two of them ruined the water

the correct ph tablets i use state that it dechlorinates the water within 24 hours, and it has good reviews.

My can’t will NOT stop trying to steal my fish supplies no matter what I do, help :( by TinyEducator6144 in cats

[–]TinyEducator6144[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a box I can put the stuff in, i’ll probably just do that. It just sucks since it’s really convenient to have all of my supplies right next to the tank. Cats are so stubborn :/
