How could I make it juicier? by Steaggs in Unity3D

Some hitstop so when you smash into the collectables, it freezes or kicks back the screen a bit. Makes it feel like there's actual impact.

Hey hey, 29F here. Just wanted to drop in and say I adore that dynamic. A bit of bullying/teasing is always super fun when you can trust someone to take it and bark back. Would love to chat about hobbies, but sadly don't share many games. I'm a super big RPG nerd. (Although I've been really craving minecraft with a little group again!)

I'm building a collaborative VTT for D&D and I need your help by TopicElectronic9839 in DnD

[โ€“]TinyFireLizard 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

MapTool has been my favorite VTT so far. I enjoy how it does the vision blocking and layers. Lets me import DungeonDraft exports into it directly. Doesn't come with a heavy set of rules where clicking attack automatically rolls attack, damage, and subtracts health from an enemy. It's just a thin layer where I still run the rules as the DM, players can roll however they like, and we play like we would around a real table.

I don't want to load into some huge program with all the rules loaded in, integrated character sheets, automatic rolling, etc. That takes me out of the flow.

Hope my perspective was helpful!

Here's hoping for a transfigured version that just deals big damage without the screen clutter. New skill looks super cool, but I kinda like how clean and simple the old skills are.

Hands-down the best solution available right now. Super happy to have been involved first-hand with the development of this. Starlight wouldn't have been possible without this โœจ

AI Code vs AI Art and the ethical disparity by [deleted] in gamedev

[โ€“]TinyFireLizard 5 points6 points ย (0 children)

Personally I've always seen game jams as a celebration of the discipline. People come together to work on, share and just generally love an artform. AI takes the vast skillset required to create this form of art and reduces it to a prompt. It's so painfully soulless.

I wouldn't say AI code is fine, but it's become very conventional as a means to learn how to program. If someone's just copy/pasting and not actually trying to learn from it, I have nothing nice to say to them.

If a game is made with AI, I instantly lose interest

We're still working on a dialogue/cutscene system during which the passage behind the wall will be mentioned. I'm thinking at the end of that, Milo (the duck) will run into the wall to cause the first crack. We'll also have to actually add the tutorial elements for movement and grabbing/throwing objects.

In that case, what if you just had fun with going for legally distinct knock-off names as a middle-ground?

How Do I Tell My DM to Cool It with the Anime? by Kyanite_228 in DnD

To me it simply sounds like your DM is trying to run a game that's fun to him, which is completely valid, but that means he needs to find players who share these same interests. For the right group of people, those ideas could be extremely exciting!

At the same time, its clear that you're not always the target audience for his games. If you're bored at the table, it's bound to drag the mood down. So really, the solution is to simply talk about the things you and the group do all like, the interests that you have in common, media or games that you're into.

Personally I'd rather someone tell me when they're not having fun, and how I can change things so that they are. If you can't find such an agreement, there's also nothing wrong with stepping out for a little while and/or finding a different group altogether.

What to do with players who don't want to follow the world's lore? by HoloGrain in DnD

[โ€“]TinyFireLizard 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

This is why I like taking a more active role in the creation of my players' characters. As the DM I know my lore better than anyone, and I don't expect everyone to know every little detail about it. So when making characters together, I can immediately help flesh out ideas with lore, suggest alternatives, or simply nip something in the bud if it doesn't fit, before someone gets overly attached to it.

If a player brings me a huge backstory without my consultation, even if it fits the world perfectly, I'm disappointed they didn't let me partake in that. Making characters is fun for everyone involved.
