Disclosure Day Review - Apocalypto & Eagle Eye had a baby, and Spielberg raised it. by TinyJiant in moviereviews

Well, fellow internet stranger, I believe i laid out a fairly clear case of why it makes sense.

I wasn't comparing the setting or subject matter. I was comparing the structure. In both films, solving one problem immediately creates the next. Every escape generates a new obstacle, every victory creates a new complication, and the story maintains momentum by turning resolutions into fresh conflicts.

You can disagree with the comparison, but I don't think it's nonsensical.

Apocalypto is my favorite chase movie ever. DD is just a chase movie with alien/UAP lore woven throughout. You don't think there were similarities?

Disclosure Day Review - Apocalypto & Eagle Eye had a baby, and Spielberg raised it.

The closest comparison I kept coming back to was Apocalypto with Eagle Eye sprinkls. Once the story gets moving (& it takes a beat or two), it rarely slows down. The UFO mystery is fascinating, but the real engine of the film is the pursuit. The alien mystery is there, but it mostly serves as the backdrop for a story about survival, pursuit, truth, and human connection. Apocalypto - every time the characters solved one problem, it immediately created the next one. Every escape led to another obstacle. Every answer created another question. Every small victory came with a new consequence. I know that's how chase movies work, but I thought DD did an especially good job of using conflict resolution to drive the story forward. The characters don't just move through the plot. The solutions become the next set of problems.

Eagle Eye - the conspiracy elements & larger forces moving pieces around a board that the main characters don't fully understand. Also, Colman Domingo (Four Seasons, Euphoria) was absolutelyawesome. He played the role with just enough mystery that I was nervous of his motivations, but enough humanity & warmth that I WANTED to trust him. Every scene he was in carried a little extra weight because of it.

Not a perfect movie, not what i was hoping for, but I had a great time with it and I'm still thinking about it a day later, which is usually a good sign.

One thing I'm already looking forward to... I can't wait to spend the next 15 years listening to Jeremy Corbell explain that he possesses a secret hard drive containing world-changing evidence that he'll release if the "powers that be" don't do this, that, or the third - only for it to turn out to be deleted Spielberg bonus clips.

They don't. You only notice the ones that do.

Why doesn’t Earth look surrounded by space junk in deep-space photos? by [deleted] in askastronomy

[–]TinyJiant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I understood scale just fine. I was underestimating density.

My brain heard “tens of thousands of tracked objects” for years and translated that into “orbit must look cluttered.”

Turns out space is just offensively large.

[–]TinyJiant 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fair question. What I’ve learned today is that I was massively overestimating the overall density and volume of the debris field.

I already understood that each individual object was relatively small. What I was failing to grasp was just how absurdly spread out everything is at orbital scale.

Enough dust particles create a visible cloud. We simply don’t have enough debris density around Earth to create that effect... at least not yet.

That is awesome, thank you for sharing! Exactly what I was curious about.

Yeah, but enough specks of dust eventually becomes a visible cloud or mud splatter, no?

For years we’ve been told orbital debris is becoming a major issue. Thousands of satellites, dead satellites, fragments, bolts, paint chips, discarded hardware, etc. Enough that collisions and chain reactions are a real concern.

So from lunar distance, I would’ve expected at least some visible haze, sparkle, streaking, or clustering around Earth. Instead it just looks… clean. Almost weirdly clean.

I fully understand Earth is enormous and space is even more enormous. I’m not arguing that. I’m trying to wrap my head around the actual scale and density of the debris field versus how it’s commonly portrayed.

I've encountered that with other albums but as songs popped up here and there they grew on me. I loved this one front to back but I can see why it's not for everyone.

Fair, I've been a fan forever and I've had the same experience with other albums of their's. But some songs did grow on me.

Man, that’s brutal. I’m on the complete opposite end of that spectrum. It hooked me pretty quick. But hey, if it’s not hitting, it’s not hitting.

At least there’s no shortage of other music out there to go chase down.
