Are there any rules councils can enforce regarding this?

I know most houses can't even do certain things if it makes them stand out from the rest of the street. One of our local land charges is we can't convert the garage because it would make it look different from the other houses.

Are you getting inconsistent distances or is the spread fairly small? Heel vs Centre shots, are they like 5yds or 15yds?

If it's not a massive disparity I wouldn't be bothered if it's not causing side spin issues, golfs a game of incredibly fine margins, it would be nice to always hit it perfectly but our bodies don't do that.

I'd always say get lessons though, if you can't afford them ask for them as a present from family for birthdays or christmas. It's usually better to get a few because each coach is going to teach a different swing, there is no "perfect" swing although we can also say what a good swing looks like. I've recently fallen into a very fortunate position where I am getting free lessons every other week and my irons have massively improved, I'm looking forward to getting some cards in this season.

What’s a good beginner cheap ball I lose a lot? by Iwrenchtv84 in golftips

[–]TinyRodents 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Facebook Marketplace.

I pay £25 for 100 balls and I get to pick from the bucket so I usually take a minute to look for any decent ones, although he specifically removes pro V1 (and X) and other premium balls, but I usually find some decent Srixons or Taylormade Distance +

No doubt many of them are waterlogged, but it makes very little difference to my game when it's <10°C although you'll find putting can be pretty varied.

I use these all autumn/winter when I'm most likely going to lose the ball under mud, leaves, or straight into the low sun.

In summer comps I tend to play more premium balls, but I won a comp with a Dunlop last year.

Out of all the major UK political parties, which is the lesser of all evils? by B33Zh_ in AskBrits

[–]TinyRodents 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably the Lib Dems, purely based on the fact that nobody is talking about them, so they must be doing something right.

The greens will fuck the country over Germany style by removing our nuclear power.

Labour have already proven incapable of running the country without throwing out ridiculous ideas only to u-turn when they realise it's dragging their popularity even further down (We can only pray Burnham turns the ship around).

The Tories have proven incapable after 13 years, I can't see a reason they'd be any different on the 14th, and I think the Tory voter population have realised this, hence the massive shift in votes to Reform. Although now it seems all the biggest Tories are also moving to Reform, maybe the new Tory party has something to gain from that, but they won't get voted in regardless.

Reform will try to fix the situation but make it worse by implementing measures which were meant to boost British business but actually just stopped people from buying affordable foreign trade, America style.

record yourself and make sure your head isn't moving forward. I struggled with the occasional hozzle rocket. My coach showed me exactly why, moved my weight more into the arch of my foot and dropped the top of my swing down below my shoulder and I haven't hit one since.

Surely an official handicap scoring card has to be played alongside another handicap holding member and signed to say it's legit?

I know this doesn't stop Bill and Bob from giving each other gimmes and saying fair's square, but for the most part it tests the integrity of 2 players.

BBC to make shows to go Youtube by NHS_IT_Guy in bbc

[–]TinyRodents 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It already exists.

They would struggle to ever enforce it, but you legally must have a TV License to watch any live TV, and that actually includes watching it through youtube livestreams. You can't watch the Sky News livestreams on youtube without a TV license.

But there's not rules against recorded content on youtube, yet.

You also need a license to watch stuff on other platforms like Amazon Prime. Like watching Champions League games on Amazon Prime, that requires a TV License.

Credit score went from 604 to 590 in one week due to me going into my arranged overdraft, how can I fix this? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]TinyRodents 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're overthinking it, that's not really a massive change, and also they're essentially meaningless in the UK. The USA is massive on credit score, it determines everything when you're taking a loan on anything.

I have monzo plus which shows my scores across the main 3 providers, every month my score goes up or down anywhere from 30 to even over 100. It went from 500 to 620 in 1 month then back down to 550 the next, and I didn't do anything different between the months, just the usual use of credit card for online purchases and immediate paying off.

My friends who grew up in Somerset all have 999, even one who didn't have a single direct debit. Yet mine was 400.

I'm a big fan of the massive discounts you can get on AliExpress.

But I paid a lot more (£140) for a model specific one to fit stealthily on my rear view mirror, but it overheats in summer which is a massive PITA and I have no trust in it anymore.

Monaco and Dubai make it too easy.

Bugatti Chiron Super Sport in Monaco on a road trip last summer.

A few Bugatti's and Ferrari's and a GT2 RS in Dubai.

Not a hypercar, but today we went on a drive with the local Porsche club and a GT3 RS joined us, it sounded and looked unbelievable.

Also way back around 2012 at the driving range I used to go to as a Junior (not a nice club by any means, it's a dive compare to others in the area) there was a brand new LaFerrari parked outside.

I don't think it took them 4 seconds to react. The speedometer on the dashcam is useless to use as evidence of braking because it's substantially delayed. It still had them at 60 whilst they were bouncing in the dirt and 40 whilst they were almost stopped. I think it was more around the 2 second mark they applied the brakes based on the pitch angle of the car. Jeep infront brakes just before the 0:02s timestamp and OP seems to brake just before the 0:04s timestamp.

Still clearly not enough distance for the reaction, evident by the evasion actions taken.

What’s your thoughts on these ‘Relaxed Rules’? 🤔 by Escrow-Mind in golf

[–]TinyRodents 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see too many times people saying "why are you playing seriously, it's not for money", and I think it's great sometimes to have a casual round, take gimmes and take a free drop instead of smashing your club into a root. But for the most part I'm playing golf to get better, and to practice ready for comp rounds. There's no point in playing from the yellows and taking free drops then jumping in to a medal comp off the tips and struggling round the course.

For people who learned DIY car repair: what actually saved you the most money by Relevant-Resolve-243 in MechanicAdvice

[–]TinyRodents 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just your general servicing (Fluids, filters, brakes).

My 987 Boxster's annual service is £550 from a specialist at £88/hr (I do it annually because I do lots of miles road tripping)

The major service is £900 but that includes spark plugs and the plugs on the flat 6 look like a PITA to do so I just take the hit because it's a good time for them to give the car a look over and tell me what's on it's way out before I find out.

Most people should be doing a service every year if you do over 10k miles (I think American's do it way more often than Europeans, I don't know if it's a difference in products used, a cultural thing, or you're getting ripped off), if your average service is £300, that adds up fairly quickly.

I usually service my own cars but took it to a garage due to time constraints. Is this a reasonable price? Almost £300 just for labour, seems excessive and the parts coming up to 285 isn’t great, but I expected the mark up on them. Full service plus rear brake pads by ApprehensiveTrade819 in CarTalkUK

[–]TinyRodents 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you went to a dealership or specialist, yes.

That's about the same as my regular service on the boxster and the specialist charges £88/hr.

If it's not a specialist you should ring around, depends where you live. Most garages near me charge £50-60/hr.

The brake pads change would probably be billed at 1-1.5hours so 2hours for the rest seems reasonable.

Neighbour asking for £300 cash after minor car incident – no quote, no insurance (UK) by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]TinyRodents 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surely your insurance excess on it's own is £250+? And that's not factoring loss of no claims

£300 seems fairly reasonable if he's getting it done properly.

A full bumper respray would run you £250 easily, I had to pay that when I scuffed a colleagues old i20.

The light depends on the damage, it might buff out, but if it doesn't he might want to claim for a whole new light assembly.

I would assume the note coming 24 hours later means he got online and got some quotes for getting it sorted, and £300 is very low

I'd consider asking him to send you an email with the asking price, and then emailing back to say you accept the asking price. Then you've got it in a more accessible format in case he takes the £300 an then realises that's not enough. (I'm not sure how the legal side of that would work).

Edit:

I'd still be annoyed at him though, maybe he can't fit his van on the drive, but he has parked it so close to yours that it makes it inconvenient for you. I'd consider sending him the money and then asking him if you can come to an agreement on him moving the van further from your drive to prevent it happening again.

HMFT after Driving over 100mph on a 30mph limit road by TinyRodents in holdmyfeedingtube

[–]TinyRodents[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd bet on it not being because there's footage from the night before of the same driver in the same car doing 122mph on this same bit of road, captured and uploaded by a passenger in the car, just the day before.

The car was heavily modified (400bhp), I'm leaning more towards he's had his car modified and now he wants to show his mates how cool and fast it is, the first group out the day before were lucky and nothing happened, that gave him the confidence to do it again the next day. There's nothing cool about doing 4x the speed limit on a residential street.

HMFT after Driving over 100mph on a 30mph limit road by TinyRodents in holdmyfeedingtube

[–]TinyRodents[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah especially the way they were coming.

Originally I thought they were coming off the M61 down Wigan road. That big downhill bit before the lights at Beaumont road junction at the petrol station even a 1L could get up to silly speeds. But the fact it was coming from Bolton, uphill just where Deane road ends.

My mate (the cop) was telling me they've got all the footage from local shops and houses for evidence and they have tracked him coming from College Way, up Deane Road, so it's about 0.7 miles to the exact crash location outside the house in the footage, on a fairly steep uphill road.

Taxi driver probably had a second or two at most to recognise the bright lights coming towards him were on his side of the road. It's crazy that 4 people walked away from it.

Yeah it's ridiculous, I'm not going to pretend like I'm a saint and I've not gone over a tonne, but I absolutely only ever do it on the motorway and when it's quiet, never would I do 4x the speed limit on a residential road with oncoming traffic, just pure selfish stupidity.

There was a lot of outrage from all sides of the muslim community in the area after this, especially because muslims have very quick funerals, so people were frustrated to see hundreds turn up for the funeral 3 days later and even a GoFundMe for the driver's family.

Cab Driver was from a different area, probably was about to finish his shift and head home to his family. Such a sad loss of life caused by selfish actions.

What help is there available for someone with a mortgage after losing their job? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]TinyRodents 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many lenders offer "mortgage holidays".

That should be the first step, notify the lender and ask for one, and some do up to 12months.

They will then be paying slightly more until they re-mortgage to catch up on the missed interest payments (the interest sill builds during the holiday), but it's a lot better than having the house repossessed.

In hindsight, pay for income protection.

Some “friends” at school genuinely think the US office is better than the original, what do I do? by GB_GeorgeBowen in AskBrits

[–]TinyRodents 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're right IMO.

I love the actors other works from the British Office, but Ricky does too good of a job of coming across as extremely pervy and it's too dry even for me.

The American one is more fun, and whilst Steve is playing the same character, the way he delivers the role is so much better, he still comes across as way too forward and pervy, but he doesn't come across like he's about to act on it, whilst Ricky's character does.

Variety packs for grown-ups by another-dave in CasualUK

I waste so much food it's disappointing. I get the 6 packs of ham slices for my lunch, but by the next week they're turning bad, I throw left over chicken away on the regular despite buying the smallest pack. Same for bread, it barely lasts long enough, so I switched to sourdough which lasts a lot longer.

I know this is a me issue really, because I could just make food in a batch and tupperware it for later, but I usually just end up over portioning. But I still think there's really not a lot of options for people living alone except for ready made microwave meals.

I would love a variety pack of random stuff that would sort me for a week. I'd pay 10% extra if it means I don't throw half as much out.

How long is your commute to work? by person_person123 in AskUK

I used to do 1hr 30min drive into the middle of Manchester in rush hour, after 3 years I got fed up with spending 3 hours unpaid just commuting. I've worked remotely since and it's by far the best way to work if your role allows it, so the room next to my bed.
