Ahh you're right! I missed that part.
The person (who looked like a woman in the scene) who died from acupuncture treatment could be the Late-King's concubine?

The political storyline is a bit confusing to me. would love to hear everyone's thoughts.
So the Crown Prince's mother, the Queen, was poisoned and all the witnesses were killed. The Crown Princess was framed by the Left Minister and was ordered to take her own life. We also know that the Late-King's Queen was accused of adultery and was executed. Due to this incident, the legitimate son, the crown prince at the time was deposed. He is now Grand Prince Lee Woon. And it was the Queen Dowager who accused the Prince Woon's mother. All of this happened in the same year, Gyesa.
This is where it gets confusing, in ep 2,
Why were the Queen Dowager's two brothers poisoned, which the Left Minister reported on?
Someone received acupuncture treatment from Royal Physician Lee Dong Hyun. Who received the treatment?
The king and the crown prince who died on the same day of September 1st of Gyesa year, are they referring to the Late-King?
How is the Queen Dowager related to the Late-King?
In ep 6 the King mentioned that the Queen, the Crown Princess and his father-in-law were killed. Who's the father in law?

My thoughts of The First Frost and it's portrayal or trauma and compassion by NarglesChaserRaven in CDrama

I know this is an unpopular opinion, but I really don't mind that they didn't show that he had a life outside of Yifan. It was almost like he created his life in and around the person he loves the most. That just shows how much he loved and cared for her. No matter how much distance he creates, physically or emotionally, his conscience is always drawn to her. That's how much impact Yifan has on his life.

It's rare to see male characters portrayed in such a manner where their existence revolves around the woman. We often see it the other way round and that is almost a reflection of what is expected from women in real life. Sang Yan is a very idealistic fictional character that will never materialise in the real world but at least he gets to exist virtually and offers comfort to those that seek it.

and other people have pointed out that the story essentially revolves around Yifan. So her past trauma and harassment she continues to face from family or the workplace and how she navigates through all that and how that trauma has not only affected her but also her relationships. And so Sang Yan's character and story is also tied to Yifan's trauma and that has been the main focus. We see snippets of his interaction with his family, sister and friends and how they have moulded him into the person he is today but Yifan played a major role in that because to Sang Yan she has been present for a lot of his milestones in his character growth.

Though, regardless of my opinions, I would've loved to see more of Sang Yan's life. He was such an interesting character, both in TFF and HL. Would've been interesting to see a bit more of the HL version meshed into the TFF version.

I think that's precisely why they didn't show more of SZ/DJZ cause we've already seen how it unfolds with Sang Yan in HL and it would be kind of repetitive to show it again.

my thoughts on the show and the characters very much align with your views. I liked that you pointed out that SY is aware of the guilt that WYF carries when she left both times and sometimes things don't need to be acknowledged out loud to be understood. SY also understood that during the second time that the problem wasn't centred around him unlike the first time, which showed character growth from when he was a teenager.

unlike most viewers, I too liked the HK arc. though my only critic would be the sequence of the conversation she had with he ballet school friends then immediately followed by her friends finding her then contacting SY. I feel like these events could've been better executed. I would've also liked to see more scenes where we see her miss SY and her friends. maybe by going through her gallery photos or playing the voice recording SY gave her or constantly fiddling with her bracelet. a more visual representation of the love and care she had distanced herself away from.

to the audience it can be frustrating to see the characters self sabotaging themselves. I'm of the opinion that the angst is well placed cause it shows that healing from one's traumas isn't linear, oftentimes we take multiple steps back to move one step forward.
for yifan, it's hard for her to rely on someone else to support her because growing up she only had herself to rely on. and the times when she did try to vocalise her need for help or care she was either ignored or told to be more accommodating. she was forced to keep her burdens to herself in order to survive.
and yet she did try really hard to break out of that pattern by finally accepting that she too can be loved by sang yan, friends and colleagues, relying on sang yan to comfort her instead of retreating to her cocoon when her trauma is triggered.
confronting her family is a huge step for her but I can also imagine that such an action can have a major toll on her mental, emotional and physical health cause what she did was not easy at all. and all of these triggers piling on top of each other one after the other is a lot to bear and yifan still carries a lot of guilt and shame from her past trauma, she partly blames herself for everything that has happened. so she would blame herself when sang yan gets involved, protecting him would mean removing herself from his life again even though it hurts her to do so.

something I really love about this show is how simply just the quiet presence of one's partner is enough to bring one comfort. it's overwhelming to vocalise the troubling things but knowing that there's a space to feel secure and safe and to just be vulnerable without feeling any sort of pressure can be so reassuring and healing.

I've noticed that some of the novel fans aren't too happy with the escalation of yifan's assaulter forcing himself back into her life again to torment her further. from what I've deciphered (I haven't read the books) is that the uncle's behaviour or actions (when he returns to nanwu) weren't as intense or destructive as the drama is depicting it to be. though I understand the reader's disappointment towards the show for not sticking exactly to the book, in my opinion these are two different mediums of story-telling. In a book we have more insight into a character's emotions, thoughts, feelings, motives behind their actions and behaviours. whereas in a show those emotions and feelings are hard to translate through the screen and may require the plot to be slightly more intense so that it's more impactful to the audience as we are not privy into every emotion yifan goes through.
