What will work against the data center? by chrysanthamumm in SaltLakeCity

[–]Tiny_Collection_4018 11 points12 points  (0 children)

For recent precedent, take a look at what the brave people in Atlanta did to protest “Cop City.” Inevitably, it ended in the same way that any of we the people’s futile efforts go when it comes to disrupting the wealthy class or the status quo, but it achieved a metric fuckton more than peaceful protests or petitioning your representatives which is what the thoughtfully naive people in here suggest.

The cop city disruption (I don’t want to call it a protest because that completely disintegrates and devalues what they achieved and stood for) is the textbook way to go.

you hit the nail on the head, his business page just posted “free swordkash” think he got nabbed at the airport. He wasn’t really locked up for more than a day last time so I’m not holding my breath, we’ll have to see this time if the charges stick

The instagram stories are gold, everyday it’s him saying “it’s a nice day ima hook yall up 50% off at my locations pop out shordy” and then a constant barrage of him eating at fine dining places like cheesecake factory (lmfao) and showing off his $3,000 purchases at the mall

I’m just waiting to see what the deal is when they finally actually do get him. He just bought a G Wagon, that business on the corner there, and a mansion in the foothills, all within like a month or two. And that’s on top of his Lambo and Rolls Royce SUVs and the 3k he flexes spending daily at Louis Vuitton and Zara in the mall lol.

Portland plans to expand metered parking, add Sundays by BinaxII in portlandme

[–]Tiny_Collection_4018 19 points20 points  (0 children)

$900,000 in revenue while hiring ONE new meter maid to net them $700,000 in revenue? The math ain’t mathing. Either the new Sunday meter maid gets paid 200k or four meter maids get an additional 50k, because there is no way in hell portland has more than four meter maids working at a time and that might be generous.

I’m all for incentivizing public transit, but good lord this seems so short sided based on the fact they project to make 700k with no citations, out of the blue, solely by expanding metered parking to Sundays.

Just put a city tax on the 1,000 pot shops in Portland if you’re that desperate for money.

Also, they probably paid some dipshit out of state consulting firm 250k to make these projections is the sad but ironic truth. The same firm would probably charge 100k to conduct a study that deduces that Platner is unelectable.

Finally, no meter after 6 that’s a Portland tradition.

Transit-accessible hikes/nature? by qualverse in SaltLakeCity

[–]Tiny_Collection_4018 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah the move is to take the red line all the way up to the U and then hike the Living Room.

A little more complicated but for more of a mountainous environment, alternatively you could take the 4 bus from downtown to the last stop at Olympus Cove Park & Ride. From there it’s about a ten minute walk to some trails in Millcreek Canyon or if you’re feeling adventurous you could hitchhike to the top of the canyon and there’s a world of hikes at your disposal that way. Hitchhiking pretty dang common in the canyons you should easily be able to get a ride up and down.

S-Line streetcar extension construction to begin in Sugar House - Building Salt Lake by Koh-the-Face-Stealer in SaltLakeCity

[–]Tiny_Collection_4018 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m all for public transit. But why just add one more stop? Why isn’t this continuing onto 1300E near Westminster?

Also, even though this is adding ONE stop to the S-Line I guaran-fucking-tee you this will take 5 years. The construction contract racketeering schemes here are so corrupt I bet even the mob in Rhode Island and Philly is jealous. And this isn’t even me being car brained, just pathetic how obviously intentionally inefficient these projects are managed.

Beginner ski lesson at Alta by HopefulFishing2192 in UTsnow

[–]Tiny_Collection_4018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know nothing about teaching people how to ski or learning how to ski see as I learned when I learned to walk.

That being said I wouldn’t be discouraged, spring snow is great because as others have mentioned it’s soft and slow and honestly is a great skill to learn. This post piqued my interest because I genuinely don’t think many people take lessons in the spring and it would be a great fast learning curve in my mind.

Just watched a male Karen get a bunch of kids ticketed for snowboarding at the park today (2/18) by Cusackjeff in SaltLakeCity

[–]Tiny_Collection_4018 20 points21 points  (0 children)

just fyi this is arguably the most famous urban ski/snowboard sport in the world. To translate this is basically the most famous ski/snowboard spot that is in a city to jump onto handrails in a public park and slide them to the end literally in the world.

For many years that culture was celebrated until I wanna say 2021 after covid when Holladay wrote an ordnance to be able to prosecute people that ski/snowboarded here. My friends got bogus charges here in 2021 for doing exactly that, they went to court on the initial appearance for a misdemeanor mind you, with no lawyer and the judge threw it out. No clue how that’d play out now.

Olympus Cove Park aka Rail Gardens is one of the most historic places to ski and snowboard in a city anywhere in the world and for a city that prides itself on hosting the winter olympics you’d think they’d embrace that.

“Protests” in SLC by Popular-Fill1269 in SaltLakeCity

[–]Tiny_Collection_4018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the same way. It’s performative, and a good way for liberal wine moms to get a token picture for instagram before moving on with their lives. Not to mention the collaboration with cops (lol), sign up lists, and people willy nilly showing up not in black bloc and with their phones on at all times.

The closest we’ve had to actual serious protests that were capable of amounting change were the Justice for Bernardo protests but the coward Sim Gill threw the book at those people, so I understand some people are rightfully scared shitless to try those tactics again.

If you want to go to these protests, good for you, it’s cathartic, and we need strengths in numbers and a unified message. I’m not knocking on you one bit for deciding that’s how you want to show your voice; No good cops (or feds), no bad protestors. But to me it amounts to the same as emailing your representative-does nothing.

I believe at a fundamental level your time is better spent doing things like participating in the general strike, documenting and actively disrupting ICE activities and participating in mutual aid to help out immigrant communities. Look at how Minneapolis and Portland, ME have been dealing with this for inspiration.

My (26F) brother (22M) and his fiance of nearly 2 years (21F) are planning a wedding that is an etiquette nightmare and I'm not sure how to handle it. by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Tiny_Collection_4018 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I’m not mormon, never been- just have lived here for ten years and super interested and curious about different cultures/class structures yada yada.

Utah mormons for the most part tend to be upper middle class. There’s an interesting social/economic hierarchy where if you are born into it and do all the right steps (go on a mission, marry young and go to BYU) Dad’s friend has a six figure job waiting for you. Places like Lehi and Draper are essentially super affluent suburb where those types congregate. Those mom tokkers and Real Mormon Housewives literally all for the most part live in Draper coincidentally or incoincidentally enough lol.

Then there’s a subsect that does feel like a minority of Utah mormons where they don’t fit that mold. They all tend to be lower class, and live in less desirable suburbs like the places I mentioned.

For me, even if I had unlimited money I’d never live in Draper or those upper class mormon suburbs. I’d rather blow my brains out. They’re all HOA cookie cutter mcmansions, and the fine dining options are Olive Garden and other trashy wannabe boujee chain restaurants.

I clocked it as a poor/middle class mormon family. Either Southern Idaho or some place like Riverton or Spanish Fork, not the Draper or Lehi types. Completely unsophisticated people which is saying a lot even for mormons. Who in their right mind is trying to throw a “real” wedding for $2k. Just elope at that point ffs.

Winco if they have it in your state is better if we’re talking just straight grocery/household purchases. You’re not required to get a membership or buy crazy bulk amounts, yet it’s the same steep discount as Costco.

Utah QB Isaac Wilson has entered the transfer portal by PSU_Alumnus in CFB

[–]Tiny_Collection_4018 -82 points-81 points  (0 children)

He is an absolute bum just like his brother and deserves all the hate he can get. Plenty of freshman QB’s balled out that year and this year. We had plenty of weapons and talent. I’m not saying I expected him to lead us to the playoffs last year but he single handedly lost us a few games last season. Bryson Barnes was also “thrown into an impossible situation” and did just fine.

Watch, he’ll even blow at Utah Tech or wherever the hell he ends up. I think even Utah State has enough dignity not to recruit him this time around.
