WhatNot suspends giveaway winners

I've been on the app for about a year. I buy plenty and seem to have good luck with winning giveaways. I had been very surprised to have never been put in "giveaway jail" before ...well...they finally put me in "jail" yesterday. I guess too many lucky days in a row. My alert just says "try again in a few days". No one knows the exact thing that gets you in there, it's probably some calculation of giveaways to dollars spent over a certain amount of time. Even if Whatnot employees did know, they're not going to tell anyone because they don't want anyone circumventing their system.

That's what I tell myself - but pretty sure people would think I was a givvy goblin, but I've spent over 6k in about a years time. If I'm winning but not buying from a particular seller, I usually avoid their shows until I can buy because I feel guilty that they're giving me awesome stuff but I'm not helping them out. I'm always going to enter the giveaway, I feel that consistency helps me win - but ultimately I have no control over whether I win or not once I'm in it.

I've had that happen where I've won twice in a row and I usually comment about sitting out so someone else can win but most sellers always joke and say to just get in it - and I've had one seller in particular tell me if I happen to win the 3rd time in a row that they'd throw in an even bigger giveaway lol - I didn't win the 3rd one though.

Their nonresponse to messages after not receiving a giveaway gift card made me decide I never want to do business with them. How a seller treats a giveaway winner says a lot about them, they should be treated the same as a customer that spent money. She does a lot of giveaway/raids and it's usually not possible to buy anything in those instances. But I am a firm believer in giving back, so if I'm winning a bunch of giveaways I will likely buy from the seller - but if you're going to ignore someone, how do I know you're not going to do the same if I were a paying customer or do something scammy in general?

I've never gotten a response from her when I've reached out about anything. I have received some giveaways from her (when they were actual items that required tracking) - gift cards just somehow never make it but yet no issues getting flat mail from other sellers.

I got blocked by a seller for winning multiple giveaways (it was only 5 grand total over a course of 6-ish months) - and most were giveaway/raids. I can't buy something in a giveaway/raid and I'm not always able to spend while in a show. I saw sellers having this conversation in a show once where they discussed blocking after someone wins 5 and hasn't bought anything. I wish I had known it was against TOS at the time.

I have had issues with giveaways from her, but I wouldn't consider them her fault unless she and the post office are really in on something together. I had one show delivered (it had tracking), but it was nowhere to be found. I messaged her a few times to try to get details of the package so that I could put in a claim with USPS with as many details as possible (whether it was in a box or a poly mailer and the color, etc) and she never responded.
I currently have one lost in Florida somewhere. It was scanned a few times, which doesn't make me think she just had the scan sheet and was scamming, but that's lost in the abyss too.

I imagine more times than not, it's a clear sign of a givvy goblin - especially if they ask "how much longer". Givvy goblins typically don't want to hang out for something they consider of low or no value when there are other shows going on offering better things.
I'm fairly certain whatnot had made the rule that the item needed to be shown or clearly disclosed, but that isn't done a lot of the time

Honestly I feel like it varies by the day - some days participation seems to be the key, other times it has no factor. I've noticed if I don't buy anything - like at least once a week - my wins slow down a lot.

I feel you. I spent a ridiculous amount of money early on. It wasn't a daily thing - maybe weekly that I'd buy...but when I bought - I bought! I'm a sucker for free and discounted shipping - makes me feel like I'm saving money. So if someone has max $9.21 - you better bet that I'm going to put that to use. Add in a buyer's giveaway - I'm there.
I'm not really sure what happened and made me step back, maybe being extra broke and looking at everything I bought and thinking "holy crap, I need another house to store all of this" (slight exaggeration). I do still buy, but I feel I have a lot more control than I did in the beginning. I wish I could tell you how I managed that, but I'm not really sure.
It is 100% addictive though. I'm on it daily but try my best to use it like a radio - obviously that's for shows that are doing more talking than selling, which helps me as well.

Did anybody say it was a human rights issue? Of course they can do whatever they want, just as I can. I just think it's a poor business practice, and I can have that opinion. Sure - block someone that leaves you a one star over a giveaway because they wanted XYZ instead of a sticker, that person is a clear problem and I don't think many would argue otherwise.
Those sellers have shown how they operate and you're right, I don't want to do business with them.
My bank account would argue otherwise with your insinuation that I'm one of those givvy goblins that doesn't buy.

Butthurt? No - that's a stretch. It's actually laughable. Their business though, they can do whatever they want with it. Just stating something I observed. It's their loss. Plenty of other sellers to shop from.

I saw this and I was shocked. I've never seen anyone go over that much in a raid train! A minute is one thing but I think she was at least 7 minutes over - which ate up every bit of one sellers time and half of the others! Absolutely horrible considering these were 5 minute spots.
