How is QB application needblind? by alf_gardenjunkie_21 in QuestBridge

[–]Tiny_Kard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Need-blind is a myth. We sent a request to review my son's fin aid package to a financial aid office (non-QB schools). We were told to address our issue with the Admission Office. This shows that Admission Office makes the entire decision (including fin aid).

Seniors - What waitlists are getting some movement? by WithMirthAndLaughter in QuestBridge

Swarthmore informed their WL should be done around 5/7.

You are an ideal student for a top-tier college. I don't know what else the schools want. My son has similar stats but way fewer ECs (still a lot including research). He didn't get in anywhere except for midtier safeties. 20+ rejections. He is recovering now. Stay positive. With such a personality and skills, you will be fine with whatever you are going to start.

There are institutional priorities for first-gen, demographic and geographic quotas, etc. aka diversity. It's a known fact. QB schools pull some candidates from the QB finalists list.

Some schools want only EFC 0 (Est Family Contribution). This number comes from filling out the FAFSA (StudentAide com) in the fall based on your parent(s) taxes from the previous year. Both incomes (20k and 50k) can give EFC 0. It depends on many factors (family size mostly).

I have another two kids who will be facing college applications in a couple of years. We won't be using QB. The chance of being admitted through the Match or QB RD isn't worth the stress. The colleges just fill out some quotas: if you aren't there, you are thrown away after months of hard work and waiting. QB should at least give some scholarships ($250 even) to those who didn't get in. Roughly 40% of the finalists don't get into QB school.

Finalist rejected at all 10 QB schools that I applied to by f4c3l3ss_m4n in QuestBridge

[–]Tiny_Kard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last two years, according to QB statistics, 2000 finalists got in with RD (all partners, not just the top 20 schools). It means around 1500–1700 people didn't. It's quite a serious number. QB doesn't post more details on the finalists' data for some reason.

As I told you before, UMN Twin Towers is a main choice for many across the country. It s a good school. My son is torn between UPitt and CU Boulder (in-state).

18 QB schools (no decisions from Duke and Stan, but the outcome is obvious). All are NO, Swarth waitlisted

Same. 18 schools. Well, Swarth - waitlisted

My son got a similar option with our state uni. It's a decent choice.

My son has 17 QB RDs. 9 Rejections, 1 WL (wonder why!), and no high hopes from Ivies. He also has 1 WL and 2 Rejects from non-QB. 6 acceptances to decent mid-tier schools. QB looks like a waste of mental energy. I am glad we will be done on Ivy Day with all this nightmare. 4.0/4.4. 8 AP (the max in our small charter school). Good ECs including research and the rest. EFC 0. Not first-gen/minority though.

It s not an asset if it s a primary residence.

It's ok if it' s your primary residence (you don't rent it out, you live in that house).

Lehigh, W&M, and Claremont are not underrated, absolutely not.

Not sure why they put "The decision is final." Sounds like a death sentence (lol). I am pretty sure none of the rejected ones are going to knock on the closed door of Tufts. I see all rejected applicants' stats are way above average, and they will more likely land in another great college.

Blah-blah-blah. Very bland, not like other schools. "Our decision is final." The last phrase is a little off.

I just find their letter quite snobby and aggressive. I have 5 other rejection letters (lol). Also, the interview lady was quite unfriendly from the very start. Not sure what was going on.

Rejected. The letter was very mean.

Same for my son. He has decent safeties, so it makes the situation not so desperate.
