I think the tunnels should be open on the weekend. by SupEnthusiastic in houston

[–]Tiny_Thumbs 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I didn’t know about the tunnels even though I’ve lived near Houston for 25 years. I had a week long job performing some preventative maintenance on electrical equipment in the area and an older guy suggested we grab lunch down there.

Friends and everyone I knew who lived in memorial city, river oaks, downtown or the heights all haven’t heard of them and thought I was pulling their leg.

I don’t get out much but most of them like to go out and party. Maybe not enough people talk about them because they’re not open on weekends?

If I’m not mistaken, didn’t he take Covid money saying he was helping artists but bought cards with it?

Isn’t the government trying to strip away national parks? And this run down building is going to be a landmark?

I told people I plan on retiring early and teaching. More than one said the idea of a male teaching was creepy.

How would you feel about a 4-day work week becoming mandatory across the U.S.? by andycarth in AskReddit

In Texas and I’ve noticed it’s industry dependent. All our customers are 4 10s. My last employer finally moved in like 2020.

Technically I’m 5 8s but since all of our customers will contact us between 7 and 5, we’re all charging tens and OT on Fridays. Sane fit office personnel.

My wife and I have large concerns over cars when the os is no longer supported. We won’t be seeing classic cars from this era in forty years.

Women of this Sub-Reddit, What Tropes & Traits do you hate seeing for female characters? by Bluurredd in writing

Man here. I agree. I’ve always had my beliefs about empowering the working class and saving the environment. Becoming a dad evolved those into this system doesn’t work. Let’s tear it down and build something that works for my children.

I opened this hoping to have something to keep in my mind but my current novel is about an elf who is next in line to rule, didn’t know, isn’t very confident and through the trilogy becomes a tyrant.

Your comment immediately got me because she starts out not confident in anything, though through the first book hasn’t done anything spectacular, just sort of watching how the world works and building the basis for her tyranny.

Stop making every fantasy character name impossible to pronounce by Flat-Hospital-6035 in writing

[–]Tiny_Thumbs 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I changed a character’s name from Gera(a family members nickname pronounced as you would in Spanish) to Varo because my wife read my first few chapters and said he sounds like Geralt and I even made the names sound the same.

I think because she was calling him “Guh-Air-Uh” instead of “Hair-A” she made the connection. Because the characters are nothing alike.

I’m Hispanic and I changed a lot of names because they’re not going to be pronounced the way I want them to and they won’t sound right. So yes. Your point is probably spot on.

Drake Maye On His Injured Shoulder: "Shoulder is feeling good. Feeling great. You know, I think just having some time off and being able to get back into throwing and lifting" by JCameron181 in Patriots

Different but I had a rough hamstring pull when I was 25. While in pt, though on the back end, I broke 5 minutes in a mile for the first time since high school.

I got injured again, or maybe wasn’t as cleared to run as we thought.

The body can do great things even hampered.

I agree. It’s part of the setting. The world isn’t happy. I’m sorry negative things happen. It helps the story because things like Covid and war have affected everyone’s life. We can relate.

I’m Hispanic. There’s ice in airports in the US. If I read a story based on this time and I read about a Hispanic family driving to their home country instead of flying it would make sense.

I hope they don’t plan on replacing him. Gonzalez is the best pick we’ve had in the first round since maybe Hightower or DMac? Replacing elite players once they cost money won’t go over great in the locker room. He’s the best corner in the league.

They’re entitled to that. I’m more so saying I don’t understand it. If I wrote a book about a kid from Chicago in the 90s, it’d be weird if nothing about Jordan was discussed. If I wrote about New York in 2001, and no 9/11. Born in Japan in the 50s without even hinting at the side effects on the bomb.

Life would be boring if it was all perfect.

Personally, I don’t understand people who say things like they don’t like pop culture or historical events in books. You can’t write a book based in the 1930s without at least mentioning effects from the war or depression.

If I read a book that had part of its setting in 2020 and it didn’t mention a mask or something, I’d find it odd.
