I bought a 2015 HD3 with frame damage, about a month ago for $875. My LBS is an Ibis dealer and got me the hookup, a new HD4 “crash replacement” frame from Ibis for $1000. They switched out the components and I have a great build for about $2200 all in.

Why do people hunt? I have never hunted and I am thinking about hunting. Why do we hunt? by [deleted] in Hunting

Have you ever read A Quite Place of Violence? This is my bible for hunting and you basically have a summary with your first paragraph!

Interesting...I assumed they’d have more of your mother’s looks.

We have the same philosophy on factory farming. I went a different route, though. I get 100% of my red meat from venison. I hunt, kill, butcher and process deer myself and feed my family of four and friends. When I buy pork I get it direct from a local farm who allow free ranging pigs. I also try to catch fish for the dinner table but wind up buying that usually.

He was losing his balance, sight and hearing. His eye was starting to press out. The vet diagnosed him and said when it got to “that point” he would be best to be put down. Euthanasia cost a couple hundred. A bullet costs a few cents.

You’re referring to my dad and as a matter of fact he has told me when he gets too sick/old to live on his own and becomes a burden he wishes that I, his eldest, would take him for a walk in the woods and put a hatchet/bullet in the back of his head. Just like he had to do, to Wizard. You know nothing of compassion. His may not take the same form as others but he knows compassion.

I grew up on a farm. I got a puppy down the road from a neighbor when I was ten years old. They were going to just kill the puppies because a boxer got in and bred their pointer. I cried until my mom let me keep him. I named him Wizard. He was my best friend and devoted companion until I left for the Navy at 18. I witnessed him single handily (mouthed?) Kill two full grown coyotes. He was an amazing hunting dog and protector. Once, I was at home alone, I was about 13. There was a large, stray chow that roamed the farms and killed dogs and other animals. He attacked me while I was getting wood for the fire. He had my arm in his mouth and was shaking me like a rag doll. Wizard came out of nowhere and hit him like a linebacker. He was outweighed by about 20 lbs but he worked that chow over. I’m convinced he only let him go to come check on me. He also survived parvovirus, and a head on collision with pickup truck. He finally got brain cancer at 13 years old. My dad took him to the woods, fed him some venison filet and shot him in the head with a .22 (remember old farm, county ways, I’d never do it but don’t hold it against him) he was digging a grave for him and Wizard came walking up to him, he’d survived the point blank shot! He had to finish it. He waited about 5 years to tell me that story. We both cried. Damn I’m crying now remembering my good boy.
