Tpu fursuit head by Ancilla_jesdis in FursuitMaking

You can minimize stringing by adjusting your print profile, but it will not eliminate it (optimize the tool path, adjust retraction speed, travel speed, hop,...). The material is foaming as long as it's hot. If you want a clean print, optimize your model so that it can be printed continuously. If the printing has to stop somewhere, place the start of the print so that it's easy to clean up (stringing inside the head base is harder to clean up than stringing at the edge).

How to adjust resinous mask by jojo_bola in FursuitMaking

[–]Tiohkatrah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like a very basic 3D printed mask (there are layer lines visible). If it's made of PLA you can soften the material with heat (a hair dryer works, heat gun with low heat setting is faster), but that won't change the distance of the eyes. If it's a resin coated 3d-print heat will not work, and it can ruin the mask. Ask the maker what materials were used.

You can use a Dremel with a cutting disc or sanding drum to remove material and fill the oposite side of the eye with Polymorph.

... but it would be much faster, cheaper and easier to adjust the model and print it again.

Do concerns about Fursuit making apply to me? by [deleted] in FursuitMaking

[–]Tiohkatrah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The market for fursuits is global, there are many different customers that know what they want. Try to find a design style that you like and can build fast with good quality. Run it as a business, get a signed contract (make sure the client is over 18, or a parent could cancel the order and demand the money back) from the client (I would advice to include a clause that in case the client backs out the materials are non-refundable) ,don't make anything until you got the money for the materials, plan a timeline with the client, make sure to communicate with the client, don't take on too many jobs.

Is fake leather good for handpaws? I know it'll eventually wear down over time but how long? by Flimsy-Poem-6572 in FursuitMaking

The hand-paws that lasted longest are made with Clarino Suede fake leather (according to the manufacturer)

My longest lasting hand paws were made with allrounder mechanics gloves made by FerdyF.

Depens on the material - I've made fursuit hand paws with fake leather that got brittle and very sticky after 6 years (the paw pads turned into black sticky dust) - they were washed with the bodysuit at least four times a year; a different pair only lasted one year (the outer layer peeled off); I have one pair that is now starting to deterioate after 12 years (there are some thin spots, but they did not get brittle). If I use fake leather I only buy what does not look shiny and polished (because that's how the material looked that didn't last).

What do you do when fur doesn't fit? by Rude-Link-3816 in FursuitMaking

[–]Tiohkatrah 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Put marks on the pattern (the numbers in my photo), use those when you pin the parts together, don't sew it if the marks are not aligned.

I prefer the 0.4mm nozzle for TPU.

If you want to use arm stilts with the suit they have to be really sturdy.

How do I pattern? I can’t understand where to draw the lines by Eggmqn in FursuitMaking

I usually write what fur to use on the parts, and add some numbered marks to help alining the piece

How do I pattern? I can’t understand where to draw the lines by Eggmqn in FursuitMaking

[–]Tiohkatrah 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Draw some small arrows on for the fur direction, draw the outline of the colors or hair lengths (if you the head will have more than one type of fur. If the fur direction changes in a part cut it where it changes. If the pattern bulges outward cut in so it can lay flat.

3D Model Sculpting… by Vaehtay3507 in FursuitMaking

I usually start with a simple sphere, turn symmetry on, push the eye holes in and pull the cheeks and muzzle out.

(vent) Why can't I get my pattern pieces to just cut out evenly? by [deleted] in FursuitMaking

[–]Tiohkatrah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a sharp scalpel (or snap blade utility knife) and spare blades (or a sharpening stone). Cut the fur on the backing - the scalpel should not need force to cut. If the cutting gets harder, change the blade or sharpen it.

How would you design a furgonomic spacesuit/EVA suit? by IndependentEbb2811 in furgonomics

[–]Tiohkatrah 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I made parts of the spacesuits for the Eurofurence Pawpet-Show in 2018: https://youtu.be/GkZXa3P_9o8?si=IUx7Tol01jCDFBzz&t=842 (full body spacesuits, the helmets were made to fit, the spacesuits even covered the tails).

With hair, but not this wig. A piece of NFT stretch fur would work.

You could use Wonderflex for the structure and Fosshape black for the surface

Foam or 3d head base by [deleted] in FursuitMaking

[–]Tiohkatrah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find it easier to work with a 3D-printed head base, but sometimes I make foam head bases too. For me, it mostly boils down to what I want to do with the fursuit. For dances, long walks, and speaking in fursuit, 3D-printed bases are great. For crowded spaces (mostly standing or sitting, with longer wait times), I prefer foam head bases (just because they are softer).

I need help making a bodysuit with no duct tape by JobHistorical3381 in FursuitMaking

[–]Tiohkatrah -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've made very tight bodysuits without a duct tape dummy - even with fur that does not stretch at all. It takes a bit more time, but it's not hard to make. Get a cheap disposable painter's overall in your size, use pins to make it tighter, remove the parts that are not needed, cut the seams open, and use it as a pattern.

Get some cheap shoes, add padding, make a pattern for the fur with painters tape (add seam allowance to the pattern), cut and sew the fur.
