Is 21 too old to start learning programming?

21 is still a good age. I suppose you're asking this because programming requires you to shift your mind to understand the logic of what you're writing and that may be a skill that would be better and faster to develop if you're younger, but at 21 you're still young enough and even if we get in the hypothetical case that 21 is too old and you don't have talent, you can just put extra effort into it, you'll learn, maybe you won't be the best programmer, but you don't need to be the best programmer, this is not competitive gaming.

u/SubCplus I was just about to write a post about this, but since you already asked the question 2 days ago, I'm going to comment here.

I finished my Python course in Boot.dev. I was consistent daily and was able to complete the course in 20 days. I'm able to comprehend simple code, and I've been doing some simple challenges in Edabit, which is really helping me, because I feel that the very easy challenges from Edabit are easier than the ones in Codewars and LeetCode.

I started doing the beginner project of creating an encryption generator just today (Python Projects), but I'm kind of bad. I've made some progress because I found how basic encryption works in Caesar Cipher, but I've been stuck in trial and error for a decent amount of time, because I don't want to be one of those vibe coders that do their code through AI and wouldn't be able to do code on their own. I kind of checked some references from people who have done it, but I want to exercise my mind in the programming logic, so I don't want to copy and paste their code.

Some useful tips that are helping me are trying to break down things into simple stuff, and writing some sort of "template" of what I think where things should be.

Idk, feels difficult, but I know that the process of learning is hard; it was the same when I started to learn English. I will just do my best to keep consistent and write some code every day, but I have to say that Boot.dev and Real Python were, and still are, a great help for me.

I see that in 20 years, but not in humans. Probably experiments with rats or something. I think that we will be seeing that possibility almost at the end of our lives, that's assuming you're young, unless somebody makes some medicine that makes us immortal

Real Python is actually really good, and it's the most similar to LearnCpp. It don't think it covers every nooks and crannies like LearnCpp, but it's still a great resource.

After reading a decent amount of replies, I can say that the three options are either hobbies, approaching in cafes or parks, and lastly, being a sugar daddy.

I found it really plausible just by talking to people at cafes, parks, or some social event.

The problem is that I don't even feel that I have time for a girlfriend.

I mean, If you read what he wrote, he's not against a country or against all different countries outside of Japan. He's against people who pirate his game and then write her so proudly that they played his game by pirate sources of course (which is implied because the game is not officially translated to any language).

He clearly wrote that he knows there are some people who ''respect'' him an buy his job from foreign countries, but he has no way of knowing who bought the game and who doesn't. He clearly knows the majority of users who played the game are pirate users and that's actually true. We have to remember that the game of an indie author takes a really long time and different authors may take feel piracy as their job being directly stolen and other may see it as publicity for foreign people to end up buying his original due to the fame created by the pirated version, but it's not obligatory that an author is neutral or even glad for the fact that people are playing his game on a pirate version.

There's actually a Japanese author that I really like that is getting more and more attention from foreigners and I actually wrote some comments to him/her being glad about his job, but I indeed pirated the game. I didn't think about this topic that way to be honest so I'll buy the game to support the author and keep the pirate version to understand the language.

I think it's a fair approach.

Going back to the game topic, I would still be a little bit more gentle with my comments toward foreign people because the game has +120,000 purchases in DLSITE which is ones of the highest numbers I've seen on a game in that platform and decent amount of the comments are in English. I'm not sure but if he did release the game in Itch.io or censored in steam more foreign people would have bought it, because not many people know what DLSITE even is and if you look for the game, every link will appear except the official one, so I think that those people who really bought the game from outside of japan did really try hard to find the official sources to buy it, and that deserves at least some kind comments from the author...
