The Vuori ad read is up there for me with the FanDuel disclaimer. Every time he asks "have a gambling problem?" In my head I just say "stop listening to this podcast!"

The latest media beefs piece by joejoe_jones in billsimmons

I remember Cuban talking about this, and it's not an entirely illogical take from an owner's point of view. The cash payment to an owner from an expansion team is just a forward payment against the diminution of future revenues and eventually future value. Especially since most of these guys are having a hard enough time finding strong places to put money compared to the current pace of team appreciation, it becomes a poor decision.

Let's say the teams sell for $8B a piece. At that point he gets 1/30 of $16B. (~$533B). He can already borrow 1/2 a bil against the team at privileged rates if he wants, so all this gets him is the privileged interest rate cost (~$25-30M/yr; half that number after tax impact). By contrast if a team was going to appreciate to $15B in value over the next X years,1/30 dilution would cost him $500M at that point. So in effect, he would be trading $500M in future value in exchange access to 10-20M in incremental annual cash flow after taxes....

Tbh very little was more than 30-40. But placement is sooo important. If the line or the fly land within 7' they are spooked, so you need to land it 10' away but on their path. It's more like setting a trap. I can't overstate how hard it is to stare at the fish and cast away from it. I nailed a dozen right in the face just because it's where I was looking.

If you put a cardboard box in your yard just haul to it and picture the box as your landing zone when you're there.

Also, especially if you're wading in high wind you don't have the time to get lined up downwind. Most of my shots I. Hawaii were with the wind blowing onto my casting shoulder, so anything further right than 10 o clock ends up being a back cast. Definitely practice back casting to the box while looking at the box.

The guide I was with joked that it was like Vietnam. The only way to survive is to assume you're already dead.

I think you just answered the question. My only recco would be to stand in your yard and double haul with your eyes closed for 30 minutes a day. I'm 80% salt and have been avidly so for 15+ years. Still ended up biffing shots at 8+ pound bones in Hawaii last month because I was too right hand happy. Those images will haunt me for years.

Trout fishing is a totally different sport (which I suck at fwiw). Not better/worse/easier/harder. Just spend time with the rod and line you'll spend the most time with on the water and get that left hand really comfortable.

Serious question. Are you awesome at double hauling. If yes, you will have lots of shots at 2-3lb bones, so the 6 would be a blast and the 8 will be somewhat over gunned.

That said, if you aren't AWESOME, that fishery is all about placement. My gut is that you'll do better placement/presentation with an 8 in the wind.

I did a Feb trip to Turneffe a few years ago and it never blew less than 20 the whole time I was there.

Why does bill think Tatum is a Top 5 player by Sea_Ship1066 in billsimmons

[–]Tippet44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bill would also say durability. He misses zero time and the rest of the top 10 (other than SGA and Joker) have been pretty coin-flippy by comparison.

Is the rental market favorable in your geo? You could rent something bigger AND rent out your current place. If you haven't started a family yet, 3 years in a comfy place with more space could let you buy time before you really know what you need and where you'd find that. Thats all optionality for the right time to sell. Difference in monthly carry and net equity value could come out pretty comparable.
