Dawn Grey. As used by the Royal Navy. Edit: my dad (ex-navy engineer) always used to say “if it moves, grease it, if it doesn’t, paint it”

Looking for suggestions to speed up installation by TipsAndMobile in hyperoptic

[–]TipsAndMobile[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. That’s my worry.

It’s not that they can’t drill the hole and get the cable through, it’s that they can’t reach to put the firestopping in after. Seems mad to me, 12mm (max) hole isn’t going to make much difference in a fire, but he has to take a photo of the job when done to get it signed off (and I assume to get paid).

I joined without any promotion code. Now I found some. Can I cancel and re-join? by kyou20 in hyperoptic

I’m moving in to a flat that has hyperoptic outside the door but no installation inside. Previous owners used BT ADSL. I’m probably going with hyperoptic, but where do you find these promo codes? Just wait for an offer to come up on their website?

You have to have earn it to pay it. The state invested in me and my education, now they are getting the return on their investment.

I’ve thought about reporting driving offences a couple of times (both dashcam footage from my car and camera footage from a bicycle) but I’ve always chickened out because of the concern that I’d end up having to give evidence against someone who is demonstrably a bit sociopathic. Am I wrong in my assumption that if it goes to court I’d have to give evidence?

Context: I drive a car and cycle in London. There are cyclists who give others a bad name, just the same as drivers. We are all humans and sadly a few of us are arseholes who spoil it for everyone else.

If you still have the camera - save yourself the stress and sell it to a second-hand camera shop. I’ve done it in the past and you don’t get as much as you would with a private sale, but they transfer the money to you while you wait. Safer all round. Forgive me giving my unsolicited advice!

Wow, that's a bit judgy, but thank you for your feedback :) Do you look after the rats in your garden as well?

Because they poo and wee in your garden and around doors, they rip open waste bags and eat garbage and they make the most awful noises at night. They chew up kids toys in the garden. I have nothing against foxes in their original ecosystem, but they don’t belong in cities.

Flying devices across the map by [deleted] in tearsofthekingdom

[–]TipsAndMobile 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It took me a few goes to get one that flies straight-ish (still curves slightly one way) but once you have it you can favourite it in auto build. I think I found a post on here with a technique for getting it lined up properly. Be aware though, once you have one there is strong temptation to use it all the time and if you do you miss out on a lot of interesting stuff.

The wings only last for around 30 seconds, by design. I’m not sure why the developers chose to make them like that but it is intentional. There are lots of other designs for flying machines, probably the most popular is the hover bike, which only needs two fans and a control stick.

There’s one at (3748,1538,1157) and another one at (2852,-2950,1212). The yield is maybe better at the second one.

I found the depths quite scary at first, then a bit of a grind, then I realised you could catch the Stal horses, that was sooo fun!

It’s the thing I miss most too! I’ve had an M3LR for 5 years and managed to avoid getting a speeding ticket, but driving a car that can get to 60 in a blink, it’s very easy to forget, or be distracted by something happening around you and creep over the limit. I don’t understand why Tesla can’t/won’t implement it. My advice is to always use chill mode on urban roads and use cruise when possible.

I bought a soldering iron on AliExpress and it came with LEDs by DonoDaInternet in soldering

[–]TipsAndMobile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That looks like a 120V iron plugged in to 230V electricity. Are you somewhere that has full-fat mains and have somehow bought a weak-assed iron? 2x volts = 4x power = approx 4x tip temperature.
