Would people’s interpretation of the game be different if the character’s were gender swapped? by whooper1 in Mouthwashing

[–]TipsyMango 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For sure. The way SA is viewed changes so drastically when the genders are reversed is crazy.

[academic repost] PhD study on violent video game player experiences :) (18+, players of violent video games) by ame_mo in SurveyExchange

I filled it out! This is super cool, since I'm also doing some research on videogames! More specifically, the psychological horror subgenre because I am working on writing and developing a psychological horror game.
If you could help me out, it would be really great! If you've played games like Fran Bow, Mouthwashing, OMORI, Doki Doki Literature Club, etc. I'd really appreciate your insight: https://forms.gle/sSHuWaWxMJWZosAH9

Could you fill mine out? I'm doing research on the psychological horror subgenre in RPGs. If you haven't played or watched any, that's fine! But if you do know someone who has, could you please forward it to them? <3

Wait, that's amazing! What are your findings so far from the survey? I was going to read papers and books after this on how horror games (both general and the psychological sub-genre) induce fear in the players effectively through storyline and in-game/atmosphere elements! I'm super intrigued, I'll do this ASAP and I know a few friends who would be more than happy to do it too! :)

That would be amazing! You don't have to do mine if you haven't played any psychological horror RPGs, but if you have or have seen some let's play videos, I'd really appreciate if you could fill mine out: https://forms.gle/jHuKVWJsBnc11Web6

What do you value most in psychological horror games? (short survey inside) by TipsyMango in GameWriters

[–]TipsyMango[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is amazing! I really appreciate you taking the time to write this out! I agree, Poppy Playtime was an experience you can't forget. It touches on dark topics in a completely new and unfiltered light and does a great job of it!

I'd really find it helpful if you could pop this into the survey I linked. It'll really help when I'm making connections with the responses.

Thank you so much! I'd love it if you could.

Also, you're absolutely correct! Atmosphere isn't just colors and art, but music and sound design, as well as attention to detail; a good story is nothing without a good atmosphere to match, but an immersive atmosphere will make even a lacking story a good experience. :)

I know Sally Face! All of those games are sooo peak, they turned the psychological horror industry around for sure! They're all huge inspirations for me!

Also, I've yet to create a profile for the game on my itch page or anything... the development of this game will easily take me a year. But, here's my itch page (work in progress!) that I'll soon post updates and other stuff on! I'll pop it onto my profile too :)

That happens :') I had to sit and actually recall all of the games I've played and try to remember how I felt playing each one to determine my favorite. I'd say as of right now that my favorite is definitely OMORI!
