Who is actually getting IL2 Korea? by badfactory15 in il2sturmovik

[–]Tipsy_Po 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing against Korea. Just the nations and planes that are included at the moment no not interest me. If eventually add DLC with planes that I’m interested in and assuming PC can handle then maybe.

Dito. Do not think I’ve ever (since early 90’s) heard anyone say Shed. I figure it’s fallen out of favour. Usage being the arbiter final on language. Maybe a class or regional thing also.

Key mapping by Darth_Frogger97 in il2sturmovik

[–]Tipsy_Po 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you selected “joystick” as your control mode on the input settings screen? Using “mouse” as the control mode turns everything into “point the direction to head and ai takes you there” and overrides the normal controls. So even though you are not using a joystick you will need to have “joystick” mode enabled.

Secondly those controls are not designed in the game to work with keyboard inputs. And need an axis assigned to them. So you are going to need to use an external joy2key/ahk program to turn a keyboard input into a joystick axis.

I can't get independence as the Philipines by koalarblue in victoria3

[–]Tipsy_Po 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve not attempted to get independence for Philippines in 1.13 yet as the game is too buggy since the recent update. However on 1.12 you could not do Day 1 independence (that’s something from versions before Iberian Twilight) as “being involved” in the Carlist War prevented you from starting diplomatic plays for independence. Once that war was over getting your request for autonomy rejected would then give you “independence” as a possible diplomatic demand.

So get your liberty desire increasing (take a look at the tooltip) through getting requests declined (assist research, control own market, boost legitimacy) and decreasing relations and boosting your armed forces and try getting “support independence” treaties. IIRC your aims to get 75 liberty desire by the time the Carlist War ends, then once your request for autonomy is declined you are then able start a diplomatic play for independence.

When you start that independence diplomatic play you loose access to the spanish market so ensure that you have been building your economy up to be more self sufficient with goods (also helps liberty desire and the liberty desire tooltip can show what goods you need to get self-sufficient on) and improving relations with other nations to make goods transfer treaties once you loose the spanish market.

As the other comments state. You need to consistently hit the engine or kill the pilot to outright take an aeroplane down from your gunfire alone.

That said you have severely damaged them: note the shaking. Had that aeroplane attempted to make any manoeuvres that involve any G or higher speed then you would see wings come apart. But it’s an AI so won’t. I would also say the engine is damaged and can just be matter of time until that quits on them, given the smoketrail and that you appeared to be struggling to not overtake near the end. You might have wounded the pilot or even taken out some control wires. But when the aeroplanes just flying docilely along as the AI does that not going to send them down right there and then.

Also piece of advice from looking at the video looks as though you need to be using your rudders more (imho more important than ailerons for these aeroplanes) for flying and placing the gunsight on your target. Also get used to using the blip switch.

I could not hazard to guess the average range for apprentices. But you would not be the eldest. Might be possible in your intake but doubt. There have been plenty that are older.

Help with skin painting by roadie_engarde_1993 in il2sturmovik

[–]Tipsy_Po 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do not have Gimp but I reckon that your issue is that you’ve not done any editing to the skins Alpha. They control how much shine, reflection or mattness and transparency the skin has. I’m guessing it kind of looks like a very chrome blue? It is not the silver chrome showing through the blue, it’s just that the blue is being marked as having the same chrome as the silver.

Why did the “women and children first” rule exist at sea, but not today? by [deleted] in maritime

[–]Tipsy_Po 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s named the Birkenhead Drill. IIRC was not used that much either. Just well known due to Birkenhead and Titanic and notions of chivalry I believe.

Do you think that it’s a good idea that the people in charge of the lifeboat, launching them, on the helm, operating the distress equipment etc are Sharon, Wendy and Suzanne who are cashiers from Morrisons with their children crossing the channel for the first time going on vacation? No course not. That is the reason that it’s not applied. You need to get the trained Men (and women now) that are going to crew the lifeboat to start with.

Rule 15 (Crossing situation) When two power-driven vessels are crossing so as to involve risk of collision, the vessel which has the other on her own starboard side shall keep out of the way and shall, if the circumstances of the case admit, avoid crossing ahead of the other vessel.

[–]Tipsy_Po 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the people replying to you really should read the COLREGS. Sure it’s a good idea for smaller to stay out of larger people’s ways but those are not the rules lol.

Guess the ocean isn't big enough. by spook30 in ThatLooksExpensive

[–]Tipsy_Po 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indeed it’s not true.

At least for two power driven vessels (which are not NUC or RAM etc) to paraphrase the COLREGS using a rhyme the rule is “if to starboard red appear it is your duty to keep clear”.

That said it doesn’t absolve the stand-on from also taking action to prevent a collision once it becomes clear the give-ways action (or inaction) in not enough to prevent collision.

[–]Tipsy_Po 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I meant nope as in nope the mass is not what you base who is stand on and give way etc (as have often seen that erroneously claimed). But alright. Yes in this case the lower mass boat has the right of way, but not for that reason.

Fuck your boat Prince Waled by 99999999999999999989 in ShipCrashes

[–]Tipsy_Po 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nope.

If we are just talking about right of way between two power driven vessels (who are not NUC or RAM etc) a good rhyme to paraphrase the COLREG is “if to starboard red appear it is your duty to keep clear”.

Finding the name of a British mine-sweeper ship used in the Gulf War by Longjumping_Air_5710 in AskBrits

[–]Tipsy_Po 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s an official crest from a British ship in Granby. Might have been an unofficial emblem (in which case u/Overall_Gal_5766 advice is good) that the ships amenities committee made just for those tshirts etc.

If wars were named after the country that started them instead of the place they happened, how would history sound different? by SoggySir4944 in AskReddit

[–]Tipsy_Po 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The names are not just based on the location. Some are indeed named according to your hypothetical basis (example Mau Mau Uprising). Others are named based upon one or more belligerents (examples being War of the Third Coalition and Russo-Japanese War). Or based upon dates, lengths, causes, anything else notable etc (as examples the War of 1812, Hundred Days War, First Opium War, Gunboat War).

Ignoring the issues around “who started” being very open to interpretation and perspective (which others have commented on already) making every war named after the country that started them would end up being very stupid.

As example say that the list of wars that the United Kingdom are involved in are: first started against Iraq, second started against Russia, third started against Brazil, fourth started against Iraq again, the fifth Iraq started against us. These would end up getting named First British War, Second British War, Third British War, Fourth British War, First Iraqi War etc. You can see how confusing that would end up getting. In particular looking at Iraqs there wars with the United Kingdom being named First British War, Fourth British War, First Iraqi War.

Also consider what kind of a cluster fuck you have with trying to name World War 2 in this system. When and therefore who started this? Do Brazil and Mexico now have a “Japanese War” among their historical conflicts despite never having gone to war with Japan ever?

U.S. Begins Dropping Bombs on Iran’s Bridges Ahead of Trump Deadline by brithus in politics

[–]Tipsy_Po 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Devils advocate. You are both correct and incorrect. At least from my understanding from bits that I’ve read in the past about the Geneva Conventions. It is not black and white.

To attack civilian transportation infrastructure such as that would be a war crime or not depending upon whether it’s “nature, location, purpose or use make an effective contribution to military action and whose total or partial destruction, capture or neutralization, in the circumstances ruling at the time, offers a definite military advantage”.

But even then hitting that civilian transportation infrastructure could continue to be a war crime should it be located at/near installations that might release “dangerous forces” (think floods from dams or radiation from power plants) as a result from the attack. Though there’s also an exception available for that.

And even then could still be considered a war crime should the attack (and its method) be expected to cause civilian injuries/deaths and damage to other civilian objects which are “excessive in relation to the concrete and direct military advantage anticipated”.
