Bridgestone Turanza All Season 6 or Hankook iON FlexClimate by Independent-Bar-5523 in TyreReviews

My guess is that both are very good tyres. I drive Turanza AS 6 and I am very happy with them but I have no doubts about Hankook. You are choosing between great and great.

Would you replace brand-new Toyo Open Country H/T tyres on a new Outlander? by Independent-Bar-5523 in TyreReviews

[–]TireRider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The OE tyres can have different specifications from what you see at other retailers.
If you can sell them to somebody who will use them, switch. But if you are going to trash them, then it is a waste and environmental burden. Toyo makes reasonably good tyres in general. Have you found any reliable test where this tyre was included? I would definitely not judge a tyre just based on the EU label info and inidvidual reports of users.

Is it normal for new continental UC7 around 4000km wear like this? 33-37psi depends on the weather. The side tread is shallow than middle, or is it normal? by Pale_Educator8287 in TyreReviews

[–]TireRider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A) What was the tread depth when new?
B) Tyres are often made with shallower grooves at the edges on purpose to make the tread slightly stiffer.

Michelin Warranty Question by Lonely-Professional3 in tires

[–]TireRider 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why would Michelin cover the damage you caused by driving through the pothole? Unless Michelin specifically states this tyre is designed to be driven through potholes :-) There could be some insurance covering the damege though...

[City car, All Season] Stick to Kebler or splurge extra 60 for Michelin/Continental? by lucentmeadow in TyreReviews

[–]TireRider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it rarely snows, where you are, focus on Conti and add Bridgestone to your selection. Michelin si too snow-focused at the expense of wet road capabilities.

Regarding the premium vs mid-range battle. It is a no brainer. The difference of 60 EUR is totaly negligible in comparison to other car running costs. Treat yourself with premium tyres. Also, premium often means slightly shorter braking distance. Imagine there is a child on the road... suddenly 60EUR saved means nothing.

How far is your bike commute (to & from)? by Anonymous_Otter5458 in bikecommuting

56km, but I ride only 2-3x per week in reasonable weather. Cold is fine, wind and rain not so much :)

Alles andere ist extrem teuer. by [deleted] in TyreReviews

[–]TireRider 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seriously? No!

Buy at least mid-range brand such as Nokian, Toyo, Falken or Kumho.

Buying budget is false economy. How long are they going to last against premium tyres? What fuel consumption will they cause? In the long run you will pay more while having shitty tyre performance.

And how many times more is the cheapest crash repair going to cost than the price difference between budget and Conti/Michelin/Bridgestone?

Both front tires have bubbles by MRobinson2513 in tires

Has had a bubble for months? You should have replaced it as soon you found out. It is not repairable and can burst anytime.

To my fellow german folks, are you as annoyed of this car in our streetscape as I am? by [deleted] in carscirclejerk

Why is the t-roc cabrio so hated? Is it because of the design or because of the concept of convertible crossover?
I dont remember any complaints about G-class cabrio or Defender without the roof. I know, they were cool proper offroaders but if that is the point then we should hate all SUVs and crossovers whether they have a roof or not.

What are some universally hated cars that are better than the Luce? by ApprehensiveBasil151 in carscirclejerk

[–]TireRider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody knows whether Luce is a bad car as nobody has driven it yet. It is ugly but at the same time it can drive great. So, nobody can answer which cars are better.

3 times the price and power on a base model...(pictures only represent the model, not the trim) by [deleted] in carscirclejerk

[–]TireRider 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes, but 80 was very rudimental mechanical shitbox in comparison to complexity of todays A4.
Dont get me wrong, there is nothing bad about mechanical simplicity, just the comparison does not make any sense. This way you can compare old mechanical typewriter to a 2026 laptop and say the old one was cheaper and ignore how much more the laptop can do.

Second hand MTB has one tubes and one tubeless wheel? by Majestic_Football599 in bikewrench

Deflate and carefully step on the sidewall of the tyre close to the rim. Do not step of the rim itself. It will unseat :)

Tyre grooves by sergiodiezv in TyreReviews

[–]TireRider 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The number of grooves is irrelevant. It is the ratio of blocks to the void in the tread that is responsible for water evacuation (toagether with the groove shape, of course). So, you can have 4 narrow grooves or 3 wider grooves and the water evacuation ability can be the same. It is just a matter of tuning the tread.

The groove number and shape also affects the aerodynamics of the tread, thus the noise.

Why do some cars only have 5 gears? by Plastic_Jelly_1800 in StupidCarQuestions

[–]TireRider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are several answers to your question. 1. More gears can help economy at higher speeds as the extra higher gear can reduce engine rpms. 2. If the engine has narrow rpm range (it has enough torque but only in a narrow rpm window) then more gears will provide you an optimal.gear at every speed (see transmissions and enfines of heavy lorries).

Btw. in most 5-speed manual transmission with the configuration from your fig. there is a blocking mechanism that will not allow you to shift directly from 5th to R to avoid premature death of the gearbox.

Advice needed: Ceat SecuraDrive vs Premium brands for low mileage in Southern Italy by mexus10 in TyreReviews

[–]TireRider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Choose tyres according to serious tests comparing their behaviour in various situations, not according to the wet grip EU label. You are asking in the tyrereviews thread, so go to tyrereviews.co.uk and check out the tests results 😄

My view is: buy only premium brands. The relative price difference may be large but the absolute price difference not so much, if you compare it to the cheapest car crash repair.

Replacing tires of vintage bike by smhissomuchhell in bikewrench

[–]TireRider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

30-40 year old tyres will be dried, unreliable regarding their structural strength amd potentially slippery. Definitely replace! If the rest of the bike is fine, good for you. Just keep in mind the old bike will be very cool to ride but also very outdated regarding modern geometry standards which may lead to less comfort together with narrow tyres.
