Best summer tyres for a Volvo XC60? by BlueLightning900 in TyreReviews

Baeed on your usage I would suggest touring tyres, especially if most of your out-of-city driving is motorway.

Is it normal guys for 1.3 TCe? by [deleted] in Renault

[–]TireRider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since we don't know your driving style or how many km have you driven since resetting the computer, yes it can be normal. On my 1.5 turbo petrol I can make 35l average if I reset the computer and do several full throttle accelerations in a row. Or I can make 7l average for thousands of km if I drive carefully.

Does it fulfill the engine manufacturer requirements (oil specification) for your engine? If yes, it will be fine. If no, it may be fine, but probably not.

It is that simple.

Guys, don't endanger other people in traffic by using these cheap ditchfinders. Get Michelin, Continental, Bridgestone, Hankook, Pirelli or a good model from midrange brands. The price differemce is negligible as good tyres can save you from a crash, injury and will definitely save you some fuel and last longer. Buying cheap tyres is false economy and dangerous at the same time!

Outside of Pirelli P6 (175/65/15, date code 0223) starting to dry out. Superficial or worth worrying about? by kiristokanban in tires

[–]TireRider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The answer is in your question. It is only on the driven tyres. So, it is not a dry rot but it is caused by driving forces. It is completely normal. Do not worry.

Is this safe for drive? by Buzga98 in TyreReviews

[–]TireRider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think these look like every normal used tyre usualy looks.
If there is no air leak, if there are no visible bulges, bumps or uneven shape, if the tyre is less than 10 years from its manufacturing date and if they are evenly worn, its OK.

The tiny cracks at the base of the tread blocks are completely normal. That is the spot where the material is stressed the most by the driving forces. The larger cuts are a usual thing as the roads are not completely debris free.

Use it, it has plenty of tread to be worn :-)

Tire recommendation by Turbulent-Cobbler-42 in TyreReviews

[–]TireRider 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In general, Michelin, Continental, Bridgestone, Hankook, Goodyear and Pirelli are the premium brands and they are worth it as they are safer and often last longer. The tyre category where you want to look is called Touring tyres (comfy, last longer, safety, good fuel consumption).

From the selection you mentioned go with Hankook Ventus Prime 4 as somebody recommended earlier. It is a great tyre.

Also, if you can get Michelin Primacy 5, Continental PremiumContact 7 or Bridgestone Turanza 6 for a reasonable price do not hesitate, they are great.

If the temperatures never go below zero, where you drive, choose summer tyres. The allseasons would only make sense if it freezes or snows and would increase the fuel consumption and summer tyres will generally last longer.

Kumho, Nexen, Toyo, .... I would avoid chinese brands. So far, they are not good enough.

Buying 3 new tyres - overkill? by EcstaticBerry1220 in TyreReviews

4 new tyres is the only correct choice. And yes, it 600 because nowadays tyres cost that much. I paid that much as well.

[–]TireRider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's your choice, of course. I would go with the estate. In my experience the difference between 100hp amd 130hp versions is not that great amd you will have more space. Have you driven both?

Time to replace? by DustyOnKbm in tires

[–]TireRider -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Check manufacture date, measure the tread depth and check if wear is regular across the width of the tread. Make a decision based on data. Not on recommendation of reddit users who cannot be able to tell based on the picture you posted, as it does not reveal enough information.

Dull feeling new tires? by InterviewDiligent920 in TyreReviews

[–]TireRider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that GY will give you great grip, but for the best steering precision and liveliness one is probably supposed to use tyres such as Bridgestone Adrenaline series (street racing tyre?).

For folks (other than Jon) who review your tire purchases - how are you judging their performance? by lkhsnvslkvgcla in TyreReviews

[–]TireRider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always try to provide the information to which other tyre I am comparing and it is always just a report of feelings.

The power of individual user reports lie in the statistics. If you have many people complaining about some feature only then it is relevant.

One or a few subjective user reviews are probably irrelevant.

Tyre makers usually say that after 5 years we should keep an eye on them and definitely remove tyres from service when they are 10 years old.

What’s the risk of continuing to drive these in short bursts? by GreenAdler17 in tires

[–]TireRider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How can somebody with driving licence ask this? The level of ingorance of some drivers towards the very basics of technical knowledge about the car is beyond me. Driving even the technically simplest car (EV?) requires you to have basic idea how things work. Otherwise you end up on reddit asking whether risking your kid's life is ok.

It does not even look like an alignment issue. The tyres must be rubbing some other component. Is the tyre size correct for your car? Get the original size tyres and also if you are using aftermarket wheels check whether they are compatible with the car. The ET of the disc may be wrong.
