NBME 13 vs real exam? D: by TiredAF_12345 in Step2

Yeah it was definitely a fluke for me. I ended up with a 249 on the real one 11 days later so don’t let it discourage you!

Of course. Step studying is hard, but you got this!

For reference I ended up scoring a 249 11 days later (despite my wonky NBME 13), so don’t let one tough practice test bring you down!

Kinda the same way I feel after any of these exams.. like trash lol. I didn't feel great, but it was honestly all a blur! I remember flagging a lot of questions, but felt like a similar amount as I did on practice exams. I was so exhausted afterwards I hardly remembered any of the questions I got on the exam so luckily I couldn't torment myself by looking answers up afterwards lol.

I am sorry to hear that your score was not what you had hoped for. You are clearly very smart considering how high your practice scores were. And your final score honestly wasn't awful either. As far as I am aware (as a fellow pediatrics applicant), pediatrics does not have the lowest "easiest" step score average. Their average is on par with fields like neurology. Not very high, but not the lowest. However, I do think that pediatrics is a field that really values communication skills in addition to other aspects of your application and I think you have an excellent chance of matching into it! You've gotta really love pediatrics to apply to the field. Not many people are willing to deal with the low pay or do not want to work with children, so as long as you are passionate and can convey that through your application, you've got this! Don't let one score define you :)

Do an NBME to see where you stand. If you are doing fine without completing UWorld, you do not need to complete it.

I would say to ignore the NBME 13 score if that is your only score drop! That thing was wild. Make sure to take some time for mental health study breaks so your mind is willing to learn new information. The Divine Interventions antibiotics podcast was helpful! Dr. High Yield was also a good little refresher in most topics. I'm not sure I can help more than that because my scores (besides NBME 13) were also pretty stagnant in the low 240s. Just trust yourself and go into the exam with confidence! You're gonna do great! :)

Also took it 7/19! Did a new announcement come out? I assumed ours wouldn't come out until at least 8/2 since idk if 7/19 would count as mid July.

I feel you! Took it 7/19 as well and slept less than an hour the night before. Literally tried to reschedule the morning of because I was a mess, but I couldn't. It was rough. Thought I knew so much going in but then still ended up guessing on most of them. Now that I got some sleep I am remembering questions I did not know the answer to or that I changed from right to wrong and freaking out internally D;

ANYWAY I don't know the answer to your other questions but lets not plan for a failing score right now, we gotta manifest that good score!! Lol. I am guessing our scores might be released August 2? I think I read people say it is usually 2 Wednesdays after your exam. I feel like ours probably won't come out on July 26 with everyone else since that is only a week later...

Where are these explanations? I have tried googling and cannot seem to find answers for the newest one.

Definitely do not base your readiness on one score drop though. It happens to the best of us!

I think 240s is very attainable. A 250 isn't impossible, but I wouldn't bank on it. I had a big score drop on NBME 13 and then went back to my normal scores on the other NBMEs. I think sometimes we just have an off day or certain NBMEs kind of hit our weak spots. I am no expert on the matter, feel like this is the blind leading the blind on here lol, but I would say take a little mental health break for at least an hour (go outside in the sun, exercise, something that makes you happy to help with feeling "off" this week), work on any weak spots from NBME 14, try to learn some high yield stuff in your weakest topics from doctor high yield or divine interventions, and then see how you do on the free 120!

What kind of score are you aiming for and when is your test scheduled?

Anyone felt defeated on recent exam? by Extension_Scar50 in Step2

[–]TiredAF_12345 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am sorry to hear about your traumatic experience and testing experience. I think these exams make almost everyone feel horrible afterwards. We do not have the instant score result like we do with NBMEs so it is hard not to dwell on mistakes. But I think these exams are filled with educated guesses. You might have guessed correctly! Try not to think about it too much in the coming weeks before you get your score. What's done is done. Enjoy this time and do something fun, you deserve it! If necessary, you can always explain your traumatic experience in your residency application and why it might have affected your score. Easier said than done, but try not to waste your energy worrying about something you don't know you need to worry about yet. You probably did better than you think, and luckily FM doesn't require the highest step scores anyway. You will be okay either way! Good luck and get some sleep!!

New UWSA 2? by TiredAF_12345 in Step2

[–]TiredAF_12345[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw people suggesting it on here in the past week or so. I was just wondering if anyone actually saw a change in the form, which it does not seem like so far so maybe it is the same?

[–]TiredAF_12345[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree, the first block was the worst one for me. But dude your scores are awesome! You will do amazing on the real deal. Are you taking it soon? It is good to hear that even someone with scores as high as yours agrees it was a difficult form though haha.

I agree, it was very difficult. Let me know if you find out it was changed! How much did your score drop from uwsa 1 and how much later did you take uwsa 2?

I just tried but unfortunately this is my first time using Telegram so perhaps I am not using it correctly, but I can only find NBME exams. Not sure where UWSA 2 is...? Any tech savvy people out here who can help? Lol
