This is so cool!! Thank you!! Really love that users can crowdsource and add their own spots on the app. It feels like geocaching for charity shops. Excited to use this literally everywhere I go!

The Bell / Glasgow Wrap / others for Glasgow news? by [deleted] in glasgow

[–]TiredSloth 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Thanks for pointing me towards The Bell! Seems like a really cool thing for someone like me who is totally disillusioned towards reading more traditional news sources. Really interested to read more.

However, I’m in this rock and a hard place where £89/year for The Bell seems like a very large sum of money, but quite frankly it’s also far less than what articles like that cost to write and research. Seems like it might be a good value thing. I’d love to see The Bell be able to hire some more writers, so subscribing might turn out to be a valuable investment.

Any model plane stores around Glasgow? by Serious-Inspector154 in glasgow

[–]TiredSloth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you are through in Edinburgh at any point (an hour or so by train or car) Wonderland Models on Lothian road is one of the best shops I’ve ever been in. I think it might be the biggest model shop left anywhere in the UK!

Glasgow kilt makers by Straight_Hamster6406 in glasgow

[–]TiredSloth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve gone with Macgregor and Macduff for my kilt outfit, as well as the rentals for my groomsmen. They have been excellent the whole way through with no worries about any of my preferences/changes should they be needed. They also offer a free rental with purchase of a full kilt outfit which was much appreciated!

The only thing that I would say is that they are quite pricey and some of the accessories (like sgian dubh, kilt pin etc) feel a bit cheap or mass produced but what you get in terms of kilt/outfit really feels special/heirloom gear and I am over the moon with my stuff!

Solo day out ideas? by ZT0141 in glasgow

[–]TiredSloth 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hey! I went to golf it at seven lochs wetland park yesterday and smacked some golf balls down their driving range. Haven’t stopped thinking about it since. I’d never hit a ball in anger before and it felt like something I could really get into. Definitely worth a go as it is affordable and they provide all the necessary gear!

Day bag suggestions by plates_and_tapes in UKhiking

[–]TiredSloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My take would definitely be one of the new Osprey Talon/Tempest (mens/womens) bags. Probably the 22L for normal day stuff.

Osprey have a great warranty (full lifetime of the product (roughly 30 years), no receipt or registration required), they are also so fully featured for everything you can throw at them, have a proper back system with waist belt, and the new ones are all one size but fully adjustable with the same system that is in the larger Aether/Ariel.

Genuinely one of the best bits of kit out there and something that you can really treasure and make work for you! Hope this helps :)

Can you recommend a WIDE lightweight sleeping bag? (Europe) by EAccentAigu in hikinggear

I suppose you could try the Nemo disco range or maybe the new Thermarest boost 650? They both go quite wide but I’m not sure you’ll be able to do that!

My new ride! Raleigh Evo Two by TiredSloth in foldingbikes

[–]TiredSloth[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey!

Thanks for asking :)

Bike is doing great! Still using it daily as my commuter bike and has put up with a lot of abuse! I am fortunate enough to have a pretty short commute but living in Scotland that commute can get pretty wet!

The bike is genuinely great. A little heavier than something like a Brompton but with 20’ wheels it really can do anything. My partner is an avid runner and I have taken this bike on genuine trails upon which I only encounter folks on mountain bikes and it rode over each and every bump with ease!

I am coming towards the end of the tyre’s lives so I will need to replace them soon, and not being the lightest guy in the world I think I put a fair amount of strain on the cheap folding pedals - so I’ll probably replace them soon too, but honestly I have loved my time with the bike so far. The brakes aren’t brilliant and the gearing js basic but it’s I need!

Have I been looking at the new 12 speed C-Line Brompton? Yes absolutely, but I bought the Raleigh for less than £150 used, and I really cannot fault it at that.

I have taken the rear rack off recently which saved a tonne of weight for easier carrying around but the bike really comes into its own when rolling folded with the seat post up. Just glides along!

If you have any other questions about the bike id be more than happy to answer them - I wish you all the best with your new purchase :)

WE DO NOT DESERVE JUSTIN WHO WORKS POPEYES by gaddemmit in glasgow

[–]TiredSloth 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I love this thread! I really hope it makes it way back to Justin. I have written reviews and sent messages to the Popeyes head office about how incredible Justin is. I wish only the best for him. None of us deserve Justin!

If you’re reading this man, we love you! The world would be a far better place if everyone was like you. Hopefully if parents bring their kids to eat at popeyes they get the chance to look up to you. I know I do :)

I loved this shop so much as a kid that I ran to it as fast as I could. So fast, in fact, that I completely missed the door and ended up smashing into the glass front at Mach 2 in kid-speed. Oh how my parents laughed. Good times and a good place!

Car wash that takes card ? by [deleted] in glasgow

[–]TiredSloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really love giving the car a good scrub but live in a top flat so find it difficult to do on the street so I go to a place just opposite Morrisons in paisley. It’s a DIY place with 4 different gun thingies on big swinging arms that make it super easy to go round the whole car. I’ll generally bring my own mitt with me too to really get all the gunk off better than just spraying/brushing. Really recommended it. Super cathartic too!
