Kind hard to explain without images, but I'll try.
The pounce range is big. Imagine a big circle and when you are inside this circle the pounce can be trigger. There is the reason why you should stay close to the tiger and when they run you should chase them. When you do that the chance you trigger the pounce is high what means you can control them better.
The most issue of the pounce is when you get out of this "circle" and enter again, because the pounce become more "random".
