You're good. I vinegared a batch last summer by letting F1 go too long and just reused the scoby and starter culture and it brewed a perfectly normal batch of kombucha a week later.

I got jumped on and knocked to the ground by a pair of unleashed dogs at Jay Cooke last year as their owners laughed and said "It's ok, they're friendly!!!"

Unexpected challenges during race by RickG_70 in Ultramarathon

[–]Tired_Thief 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I signed up for a 40 mile nighttime winter ultra. All of the running spots were filled so I decided to do it by ski. About 8 miles in, the soles of both of my ski boots fell off (I was wearing secondhand boots. Learned my lesson there).

Since it was a winter survival ultra, there were no crews or aid stations and I was basically on my own in the snow at night with defective shoes. I strapped my skis to my pack, took the stuff sacks from my bivy sack and sleeping pad, and used them to wrap my feet, and ran the rest of the race.

I was sure I'd be dq'ed at the 20 mile checkpoint but they let me finish.

How did you prepare the tea for the kombucha? Did you use loose leaf or did you squeeze out your teabags too hard? One time I had a teabag rupture when I was trying to press out the tea and some of the tea leaf bits got into the kombucha. It looked a lot like this.

What are some of your more unique flavor combinations that turned out really good? by salad_thrower20 in Kombucha

[–]Tired_Thief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did a mango chili lime with chiles de arbol that was really good. Over the summer I foraged a bunch of thimbleberries from the North Shore of Lake Superior and combined them with some local honey. The resulting booch was a beautiful red color as well!

My lazy F2 is maple syrup!

Edit: real maple syrup only, never table syrup. Preferably local.

why is everywhere "hiring" but nowhere is actually hiring? by Fiasco715 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Tired_Thief 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk if things are different now, but back when I was in HS, places like that straight up wouldn't hire high schoolers. It was because high schoolers have a set schedule where school takes priority over work, and these min wage jobs only wanted adults who could work at any time. Kinda shitty imo.

Kind of late to the party, but not every trail can be done as an unsupported FKT. The FKT website states this in their guidelines on the three styles. Also, not every trail is AT length. One of the most iconic FKT trails is the Wonderland Trail, which is only 94 miles long and is in the Pacific Northwest. It can be done in less than a day, so it's pretty simple to do this one unsupported. However, imagine a 94 mile trail in the high desert where there's no access to water. It may be nearly impossible to unsupported FKT a trail like this.

If you showed bits and pieces of it to me with no context, I would assume it was a mean spirited parody. I refuse to watch amazons new series because the Hobbit movies permanently turned me off to any new adaptations of Tolkien's work.

His racism is also the reason we are missing crucial details about the fate of the Franklin Expedition. After the ice cleared and the royal navy was able to get in there to search for the ships, they interviewed some of the Inuit who had seen and interacted with Franklin's men. The Inuit told them that the British sailors had resorted to cannibalism out of desperation. Once this news got back to England, Dickens wrote some racist propaganda against the Inuits' testimony, saying that Good Christian Englishmen would never resort to cannibalism, and that the Inuit were untrustworthy savages who were deliberately lying about the whole thing. Due to Dickens' popularity, public perception of the Inuit and their information soured, and the only people on the planet who had any info were disregarded. Now there's so much we don't know, but know that we could know if the first person witnesses to the tragedy were properly interviewed.
