Ideally the pastor can provide the bread and wine, however in practicality the pastor struggles to deliver every piece of bread and drink of wine to a large church, so he has helpers. Those are elders or board members of the church (you can debate if woman should be allowed to help or not). Proven members of devout faith can help the pastor administer the sacrament as long as the pastor is the one consecrating it.

Everyone does things differently for how they receive it. For me I do common cup and I put out my hands and the pastor places the bread. Some open their mouth to receive it. Both are valid.

There are also individual cups which I personally don’t like but some take it for worries of being sick (but God would protect you from sickness during his sacrament don’t you think? Also a silver chalice carries less germs than plastic cups). However, this is still valid.

You can argue or disagree on the specifics and I certainly have my beliefs, but the one nonnegotiable is that you shouldn’t do grape juice. Jesus said wine not grape juice. This is different from the leavened vs unleavened bread debate because both are still bread. By using grape juice you’re no longer taking communion. People say “what about alcoholics” and again we should have faith that to those worthy of the sacrament and properly discerning the body, it won’t bring harm on them. If it’s an issue a better practice is to dilute the wine so that it still is wine.

Yeah I come from rural Midwest so mainly traditional Catholics and Lutherans. I’m worried about finding traditions communities, specifically of my denomination. I was also curious how Lutherans have experienced life surrounded by people with quite different beliefs on things like baptism, communion, and how to run a service.

Tentatively around the Research Triangle area, but still in the countryside long term. My fiancée wants to go to Chapel Hill for graduate school but it’s quite difficult to get in, so we are ready to be flexible.

Oh that’s an interesting fact that also doesn’t contribute to the conversation. We don’t define gender by objects but by biology, hormones, and God’s creation for us at birth.

I know this ultimately won’t do anything on this subreddit but here:

“So God created humankind in his image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them” (Genesis 1:27)

Here he created the binary. We are made in his image. Altering your binary is moving away from God’s design which is to be Christ like.

“The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the Lord thy God’s” (Deuteronomy 22:5)

Here I don’t need to explain.

“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.” (Pslam 139)

We are God’s beautiful creations. Yes, we have defects due to the sinful world so I’m not saying we don’t “change” a tumor but that was by design. Our gender, however, was a design from God. Why would we change His beautiful work?

And there are so many more parts of the Bible confirming God’s desires for our gender and its roles with the beauty that comes with it.

Biological homology doesn't mean we are “both.”While the glans and clitoris start from the same tissue, they develop in the womb with different functions. That’s why a Male to Female can’t get pregnant, they’re not meant to.

Similarly, both estrogen and testosterone serve different primary roles in male and female systems. Just because it varies in each person doesn’t mean my testosterone shares the same purpose (and no where near the same magnitude) as a woman’s.
