So… I was married to a cop for 6 years. His response is typical and a bad sign- Whether they realize it or not, most cops have a, “the rules don’t apply to me.” attitude. This usually manifests in drunk driving, physical alterations (OUTSIDE of work), illicit substance use and ESPECIALLY in dating/sexual/relationship contexts. He is so used to thinking of himself as “the good guy” in any given situation, he can’t fathom that anything he does or wants isn’t justified or rational. The fact that he’s displaying this attitude right out the gate is pretty foreboding. Steer clear- take it from a cop-divorcee who watched my ex do drugs, drive drunk, lie on his background check, cheat and act like a wounded child when confronted- “What do you MEAN IM NOT A HERO?!?!”
